I had an 88 Econoline back in the early 2000s. It was outfitted with a carpet cleaning machine & reels & hoses. It was a workhorse & never left me walking. This video brought back memories 👍

i agree with your Title ! in the 1980s i had a freind that had a Cargo Econoline Van with a 6 cylinder and 3 on the Tree at that time my personal vehicleswere a 2 seater Sports Car and a Motorcycle so anytime. i needed to haul anything. he loaned me that Van the nice thing about it was the fact that he had the Van as a extra vehicle he used for working on maintaining his Rental Properties so he didn’t mind if the inside Cargo area got scratched or dinged up a little bit he bought the Van it was a Fleet White exterior and he had a Maico paint job make it Blue so it wasn’t a eyesore parked in his driveway or at the Properties he owned it sure was a nice vehicle to have access to whenever i needed it BTW i worked part time for the guy helping him on his RentalProperties and every once in a while in exchange for the use of his Van i would do a free day as a Thankyou !

I just saved an 88 e-250 3/4 ton that’s got a 5.0 with 74k original miles on it from the scrap yard last week, last night was it’s first time running since 2007. Mines just a panel van but it’s got a big window sliding side door an I’m contemplating on doing my own camper conversion with it

I have a 2001 E150 with the 5.4 and I love it. I've had people ask if it's for sale and each time it's no, not for sale. It's honestly been one of the most reliable vehicles I've owned and I'll probably keep driving her until the body quits. Good bet the much simpler 5l in that one will just keep on going.
Van's don't accelerate down the road, they advance at the speed of van, whatever that happens to be. (And it changes sometimes it's happy cruising at 55 other times it wants to GO!)

The van is coming along just fine, love what you're doing on the interior, wouldn't change anything. It's definitely a keeper in my book. Unless someone has a ruler in their pocket, no one is going to notice that gap, in the back; but dial it in what you can as long as nothing is hitting and you're good to go. My brother's '79 Camaro had awful gaps with the hood and fenders when it was brand new, and yours looks perfect by comparison.

I think mine was kinda a morphodite, I found a early sixties model that was a camper conversion and brought it home on my wrecker and just parked it to look at as a project in making. I got the whole body loose from its original frame, blocked it and then gutted out that carpet interior that had died sadly. I found what rust was in it and repaired every floor pan or other till clean. I had a badly wrecked highboy and it was really a mess but time is your friend. I matched up every body point, and same front to back but ready for the van body. I did have to raise the body four inches to get good steering and all. I found a wrecked lincoln with the 5.0 engine, throttle body an other stuff that makes lincoln a nice ride and matched as much as possible across to the van for comfort, and used the divorced transfer case.... then got real serious and made it look factory. Bumper to bumper was tight and right. I had a friend who did carpets all his life and when he seen it almost begged for this job so you know how nice that turned out. I did the four link in front and six link in back to get rid of the leaf springs and went air all the way round. It was all in primer when someone seemed way too interested in it. He offered a lot of money for it and I said no... a week later while I was at a store, my van is gone and no trace anywhere of it or even seen. I do remember it well as I had a lot of hours in it and for that matter... only constellation was I did get to drive it in primer for a couple of days to shake it down so to see if I missed anything. Good to go and scheduled for paint as its something I am not too good at. That was all in 1997 when this happened and I want to believe someone has seen it. That much work wouldn't go to a chop shop I hope.... and you have a shop to kill for!

The Econoline is very cool, as is anything from the 80s. Really love it. Can’t wait to see the Winnebago next. The shop is definitely coming together now!

great vid, i just bought a 95 e150 that i want to convert into a camper. its been sitting for 2 years and needs some new rubber but it fires up, sounds a little throaty. can you give us any tips on what we should be looking at for an older van. im a little nervous about it but it was cheap and would really like to see it do the speed limit without pissing off other people. caught a few other videos of yours here and there, time to subscribe. btw, your new shop is a awesome.

What I like about your design is the second row bucket seat facing the rear bench seat. This makes for a sitting area where conversation and lunching can take place. This would be great for visiting camps and parks. Also the rear facing bucket seats would be great for baby seats. A standard toddler seat would be facing backwards which is considered to be a good arrangement.

When you replaced the rear doors, did you replace with original key cylinder from old door?

I always thought one of these things would be a cool Gambler car. Pick one up cheap, stuff some 31s under it and camp out in the back

Go back to the scrapyard to see if the windows have shades you may as well get them if you’re in good condition

Not many of those generation Ford fullsize vans on the roads anymore like there use to be back in the day.
