Kirsty no one could sing like you and that song was sung so beautifully that I couldn’t help but cry thinking that we will see never see the likes of you again and your beautiful soul.America and the world loves you forever ❤❤.
Watching this a few days after Shane's funeral, with a tear rolling down my cheek. While Kirsty was killed & Shane was partly responsible for his own death I miss them. Loud, poetic, musical, funny, lyrical, brilliant... what a pair they were
Had you told me anyone would try to perform this classic song in 3/4 time with pipes and field drums, I'd have said you or they were nuts. But Kirsty MacColl was-- well, she was capable of anything, and I am doggone if she doesn't make this work! Such a rare and lovely talent leaving us way too soon.
Kirsty on top form so beautiful. A perfect slow march very stirring. A great genius lost How unjust . That "man" who mowed Kirsty down never got a sentence and callously didnt care. Lest we forget❤❤❤😢😢😢⚖️⚖️⚖️
Absolutamente única..nos dejó hecho polvo..que grande por siempre kirsty... Formas parte de música única... Al compas de las gaitas las buenas personas y las almas .... Gracias Kirsty...
One of the most effective uses of pipes and drums Absolutely brilliant in every way - a majestic talent - you don't know what you had until its gone -RIP
Wow a perfect slow march and with KIRSTYS voice the hair stood up on the back of my neck. A genius of a performance. It demonstrates just how brilliant KIRSTYS voice is to sing in harmony with the pipe band of the Irish Guards. FABULOUS
Me too. New Years always makes me sad, seeing in another year without sadly departed loved ones. The tragic way Kirsty was taken from her family at Christmas time, it's so unfair. Hootenanny isn't the same without her.
Much respect to Jools Holland for recognising Kirsty's beautiful talents. She appeared a number of times on his show. This one of course for the 1995 Hootenanny.
@@arthursteven5601 Yes but KIRSTYS death was more than a scandal. It was MURDER and no JUSTICE for Kirstys Family. Such a loss for the whole music world. KIRSTY was UNIQUE. i send sincere sympathy to KIRSTYS FAMILY
@@thebestofforum With all respect if you like Mr Ferry's version that's of course a matter of personal taste. My personal view is that Brian Ferry had a strong sense of style but was a very weak singer. Sometimes people who aren't very good technically can put over a song with conviction and if blessed with a good sense of phrasing give a memorable performance. For me that isn't the case with Brian Ferry but again if it speaks to you my opinion is just that and it would be a dull world if we all liked the same things. Other versions of this Cole Porter classic that I really like are by Jose Feliciano, Carmen McCrea and Ella Fitzgerald.
Sometimes when I see how few some of these classic postings have, I despair - but then it makes me think of how lucky we few are to have them. Brings back the feeling of the festive season and Kirsty's passing, 95 was the first NYE my wife and I stayed in together and weve hardly missed a Hootenay since. Would think that Cole Porter himself (who lived to a ripe old age) would weep if he knew the story of this woman and could have been alive to witness this performance. God bless you gal,
My gosh I'm a big fan of her since the early 90s is she dead if so how horribly tragic she's so talented and beautiful Rastafari Tucson Arizona Sonoran Desert yes I she's dead I'm going to be way bummed out man way bummed
What can one say about this except that the sad;y missed Kirsty did this so brilliantly. The best ever version!.brings tears to my eyes every time I watch this.
Fantastic. Of course Kirsty sounds wonderful, as you would expect - but so does the drum section - those parade snares are just perfect. Cole would certainly have approved of this rendition of his tune.
This is just fantastic. I remember watching this live at home, Kirsty was a regular on Hootenanny as are either The Scots Pipes and Drummers or The Irish Pipes and Drummers as in this case. This moves me to tears every single time as my Favourite Uncle was a piper and the sound of the pipes and drums just makes me cry every time now. I remember him playing me my favourite Scotland the brave and The Irish Rover on his bagpipes as a kid and I loved it. R.I.P. Uncle Peter, Uncle Jimmy and Kirsty MacColl. XxX
Its irish pipes! as there in green, and british marching drummers as their hats and red coat, its a nod to her heritage being english and irish...not one scottish band regiment in this..

This song is one of the main reasons I bought Red Hot & Blue, a compilation tape put out in 1990 to raise awareness about, and money for, the AIDs crisis. They're all covers of Cole Porter songs. Not sure if you can still get a copy, but it's a brilliant album.

Wouldn't change a note ! How to make a jazz classic into an Irish drinking song. Beautifully.

I remember being in hospital after giving birth to my daughter and hearing Kirsty had died never forget her xx
This to me is the best version of this song. So far, again to me, no one has managed to match her on it.

Bryan Ferry did it canny as well.

Lovely as ever from Kristy. Jose Feliciano did a fabulous version as did the great Ella Fitzgerald.

That quick wink at 1:14 .....that's for me, that is. It must be,
It's a shame the Neil Jordan directed music video for Red Hot and Blue has been scrubbed from CZcams for copyright reasons. It was truly over the top.

I listened to Ella Fitzgerald singing this song today.
Somehow the versions are so different, but both are equally brilliant.

Who else could have pulled off doing a Cole Porter as an Irish murder ballad? No one else, that's bloody who.
Absolutely love this.
The most exciting and powerful renderings of this great Cole Porter Hit!
Greatest version of this classic☘️🥂🚬🖤
still so sorely missed , Kirsty MacColl ,the world has never fully recovered from the loss R.I.P and God Bless

Thanks to videos such as this, Kirsty lives forever.
Such a talent and a beautiful voice 💟 🙏
Tragically killed thirteen years ago today, really miss her music.
Beautiful song 🎵 ❤️
Remembering Kirsty after 19 years.
Beautiful
Superb as always. But big respect to the sound engineers, that must have been a nightmare to balance.
The sheer volume of all those pipes inside the studio... the roof must have rattled.
