I think the reason why Roxy was a security node is pretty simple. She wasn't. The Mimic just recognized that Roxy was a threat and wanted Cassie to deactivate them. It's not the first time 'Gregory' and Helpi have outright lied to Cassie for their own goals.

@@playerlgamer0592 For the same reason why some objects appear and disappear whenever putting the V.A.N.N.I mask on - the little occipital chip inserted back when Cassie first put on the Mask.
I didn't come up with the theory, but in essence the little chip inserted at the beginning explains the weird shenanigans that happen in mask mode. First, putting on the mask can remove solid objects that Cassie perceives. It could be that she perceives them to the degree that she behaves as though they are real in that you can't simply walk past them, and instead see little floating distortion cubes hinting that putting on the mask will remove the obstruction. The problem is that in Augmented Reality where assets are "loaded in" to our reality, they aren't really there. Imagine seeing a Pokemon Go Snorlax in your doorway to a room on your phone. You perceive that the Snorlax is there in the doorway, but you can still walk through the doorway and clip through the Snorlax since it's not real.
As for the portals, the brain structure for the majority of humans is that the occipital lobe and the cerebellum are in close proximity. The cerebellum is responsible for balance and coordination of muscles, which links back to the point above in that Cassie fully behaves as though the obstructions are there. Having a third party control the cerebellum while preventing the eyes from perceiving anything would give the illusion of teleportation. The nausea that Cassie complains about is likely from having a third party control her body to get from point A to point B in a manner she isn't used to. There's also a hijacked Helpy line claiming that she got there with her own two feet, which technically wouldn't be lying, but the bigger point being that the mimic is tricking her into believing she still has full control of her body when she actually doesn't.
Tying this back into your questions, there are a few answers to the first one -
It could be that the mimic perceives Roxanne as a threat. How it came to that conclusion eludes me, but based on Roxanne's sudden compassion for Cassie in likely being the only individual at her Birthday party, it may see her as a threat to it's plans because Roxanne could get Cassie to relapse and turn away from the goals the mimic has in mind. Roxanne clearly has the desire to protect Cassie from the cutscene where we find out about the mimic, and going down a dangerous tunnel to find a friend without the help of adults isn't the safest idea. M. X. E. S. wouldn't be keen on letting a Child release a murderous robot posing as a Child.
Furthermore, Roxanne was likely the only tangible threat left to the Mimic. M. X. E. S. isn't tangible, and can only call animatronics, in and of itself it can't stop Cassie. Monty had been electrocuted in water, so he was likely out of commission for good. Chica wasn't doing the best Power-wise as she often has spells where she shuts down and fell into a broken charging tank before being able to walk around for an extended period of time before collapsing again in the bathroom, presumably no longer a threat. Freddy is an odd case since putting on the mask removes him from Cassie's vision, but the sounds of him getting up aren't processed in either the Cerebellum or the Occipital lobe. But since the two areas mentioned previously are in the back of the brain, it's possible that the chip can play tricks on Cassie's hearing in signaling sounds that aren't there. Either way, keeping the mask on removes Freddy from play, and the S. T. A. F. F. bots are all likely out of charge or decommissioned since the only one that has the potential to work for more than 30 seconds is the mask bot. The one that gives Cassie the flashlight chimes for a few seconds with the tell-tale dying battery lowing pitch and the struggle to stay upright. There still is the Music man that dwells in the vents, but he might not have the credentials to make it to Cassie to jumpscare her in time as a way to prevent her from reaching the Mimic.
That really only leaves Roxanne. We know that she eventually figures a way out from under the Forklift so she wasn't completely immobilized, and we know she has the desire to protect Cassie because she followed Cassie and fought against the Mimic. It could be some form of manipulation from the Mimic by giving her resolve to find what Cassie believes to be Gregory by adding a death of a character Cassie values greatly. For whatever the reason, it is likely based on the fact that to the Mimic, Roxanne was just a loose end that needed to be tied up.
For the second - My guess is that the mask isn't really there and that instead it's another construct by the chip in Cassie's brain. With the fact that the eyes of most entities are a point of vulnerability, it would make sense to create the illusion of a Faz-wrench port in the eye area that would either permanently or temporarily deactivate an animatronic. The back of Eclipse's head isn't electrically insulated from the Faz-Wrench either, and it's entirely possible that the Faz-Wrench could have fried Sun and Moon to make Eclipse. Similarly for Roxanne, because of the nature of her upgrade was her eyes, there was likely a high amount of wires from her eyes connecting to her processor since her eyes were meant to help her race better. Since we likely don't have direct access to it, shoving a lot of electricity through the wires leading to the processor could cause it to short, as Roxanne's processor did short before she was temporarily deactivated. This is just my speculation of course and I'm sure it has a lot of holes in it, but it's simply my theory on the matter.

Or, in contrary, I believe that all the animatronics WERE security nodes, but those nodes were shut down anyways.
Let me give a list of the animatronics and their nodes:
Freddy - Too far to be an active security node
Chica - Shut down, just to be repowered and shut down again, disabling the security node
Monty - Gets absolutely fried, destroying all of his systems, including the security node, disabling it
Roxy - Self explanatory; you disable the node, but that is all you disable, leaving her active
Sun/Moon/Eclipse - You reboot them, and in the process, disable the security node within them, but leave them active (Like Roxy)
Bonnie - His systems are proven to be unsalvageable, and even if not, it is unclear whether or not he was around when the nodes were added
Therefore, I believe that all animatronics (bar from Bonnie) have security nodes, but you just don't realise it.

To explain roxy being a security node. It could also be that the mimic considers itself gregory to an extent. So when Roxy jumps at sounds trying to tear gregory apart, it identifies her as a possible threat that needs to be eliminated.

Monty is widely considered the most evil of the Glamrocks, so he naturally devolved into a feral animal that we kill with no real regret. An interesting alternative would have been releasing it towards the middle of the game and then having the other animatronics become friendly trying to help you contain it. Except it can now mimic them, making you think it's them and luring you towards it. Maybe it finds spare casings so it can trick you. Basically making more use of it being a Mimic

On the subject of Monty, I really hope the story told with the cutouts in the Gator Golf ride is canon to what happened and not just Fazbear propaganda to explain Glamrock Bonnie's disappearance. My reason isn't just because Monty is my favorite Glamrock animatronic and I personally don't want him to have killed Glam Bonnie, but because I think that backstory could be used as a compelling way to explain Monty's ego.
The basic story told by the cutouts is that Monty started out as a small-time musician, playing at tiny, seemingly self-made venues with a bass that looks to be cobbled together by himself. He is shown to greatly admire the Glamrock band, and is liked enough by Bonnie to be given his bass, by Bonnie himself, and take his place upon his retirement. I mean, if someone in your favorite band thought you were hot enough stuff to personally name you a successor to them, I think that'd get to anyone's head.
Point is, narcissists aren't born, they're made. Understanding that, and showing what made Monty the way he is would be far more compelling than him simply being like that since his construction. But alas, that just doesn't seem like the direction they're taking his character, which is disappointing.

I think the new implication of the sunny hill ending is that it’s not a physical place - it only exists in AR, hence why you get to it by finding a random cutout and putting the mask on. The AR mode already plays with space in some confusing and reality-bending ways, so having the main characters hide in a section of it that looks like a real place feels like the logical next step. This is also why Helpi is both on the hill and in the system: It’s all the same.

Think about it: Freddy recognized something, glitched out, went into safe mode, and was friendly for the rest of the game; Roxy recognized Cassie, glitched out, and then the next time we see her she's friendly and talking in the same way Freddy does. But Roxy seems to take more of an active protector role, attacking the Mimic and giving Cassie time to escape, rather than Freddy just allowing Gregory to hide inside him. It makes me wonder what Monty and Chica would've been like in safe mode. Listen to her dialogue again, it’s not just out of character, it’s nothing like Roxy’s character, but it is like someone else: Freddy. She uses the exact same vocabulary and tone of voice that Freddy uses through all of Security Breach proper. Roxy is nice here for the same reason that Freddy is nice: She’s in Safe Mode. Freddy malfunctioned, fell over, and woke up in safe mode. Roxy ran into something, got crushed by a pile of trash, and now she’s in safe mode too. We know that the animatronics were kind (before the virus)and would never harm a guest, Roxy is just acting like her old self again.

Roxy and Cassie's dynamic resonated with me despite being very sudden narratively because I had a similar life experience, both with animatronic friends as a kid and with living people later on in life. I know games are games and storytelling is storytelling, but when I was a literal child I had few friends and couldn't trust them much, and I would invite them to parties at Showbiz Pizza (it was branded as Circus Pizza where I lived) despite being teased and bullied most of the year outside of my special day. The animatronic band at Circus Pizza never betrayed my trust. I never had to wonder if they were lying to me or abandon me or use me for tokens and pizza. Sad, I know, but real. I was in some ways very much Cassie, and I placed my trust in my robot mascot friends when it was squandered elsewhere. When I got older, I met a strong, powerful, beautiful woman who took me under her wing and showed me that I was beautiful too, despite all my doubts. I have pictures of myself in makeup she did for me, standing next to her, taller and more confident than me. Yet she was also harsh and riddled with insecurities herself. I had a Roxanne. So when Cassie and Roxanne had their moment in this game, it was like Steel Wool were sampling my very life experiences, my very childhood. I know it's a less dispassionate and objective take on the story, but it means so much to me. I will always love the fact that they wrote that dynamic into the game. I feel seen.

It's trying it's level best to stop Cassie from progressing further *without harming her*. But it's also battling the mimic the whole way; The Mimic set up the maskbot in the first place and is offering 'help' to it's own ends through Helpi. I actually like Monty just being evil. In SB as a whole EVERYONE is under someone else's control it seems like. Just have a character that is bad helps put it into relief. Like Chica is underused, but we can tell Chica is not like Monty, and that helps connect that Chica isn't bad just being controlled. If Monty was also 'deeper' than the story would be "everyone is being manipulated except Gregory and Mimic...and probably them as well, Gregory by Vanessa/Glitchtrap and Mimic by copying things without understanding them". At least there is 1 character we can latch onto as being pretty much just what we see.

Burnttrap probably wasn't even gonna be in the original game, the Mimic has 5 fingers on ome hand that looks exactly like the hand from the very first security breach trailer we got. Their original plan was to probably add the Mimic but changed it to Burnttrap later on which would explain why the Burnttrap ending is actually in Gregory's imagination and why Burnttrap didn't get much screentime.

So, I have had an idea floating around in my head for a bit. I have always found it odd that Roxy of all character had all these extra-sensory abilities. With enhanced sight, smell, and maybe even sound seeing how she can track you. It is almost like she was always built for some kind of detection purpose in the game. Now seeing how the mimic hides in plain sight, tricks people with audio, and skulks around; Roxy seems like the one animatronic that could detect and locate the mimic. A counter to it's design if you will. This maybe why the mimic wants her gone, she maybe one of the few character that can really mess with the mimic's abilities. It is also worth noting the connection between the discs you can only see with Roxy's eyes and the visuals of the AR world in ruin. I am not totally sure why, but she seems to be built differently from the others for some kind of seeking purpose.
Also, I am willing to bet the daycare and the final area with Roxy where cut down to meet deadlines.

I disagree about Monty’s ruined design. I think it’s the best. It's the creepiest. Honestly, I love that he turned into a literal alligator. He completely lost his sanity and has gone wild, I like it a lot. I just wish he was a little more stealthy and made real alligator sounds.
However… I also wished he got more depth, and a chance for redemption. Freddy said himself that his friends were controlled and not acting as usual. But yeah no answers are really given about Monty. Why he has anger issues (well at least in his ruined form it’s obvious why he’s enraged, he suffered so much), if he's misunderstood or genuinely evil without the need of a virus, if he really killed Bonnie… Even though all the evidences point at him honestly, the ending he received just broke my heart because he's my favorite, and since it's not clearly stated that he's the killer, I'm sorry but I can't accept that it's deserved karma. It's just not fair. Roxy gets all the attention for no real reason, and he (even Chica) is left to die. For me, I prefer the idea that he was controlled by Vanny to destroy Bonnie. Or that a virus just messed up his program and he did bad things as a result. So he had to, SHOULD deserve a second chance. And even, whether he's a real villain or not, he has so much potential and deserves a lot more. He didn't even get any new lines. It's just a shame. And, maybe I'm being too optimistic but I think there's a chance that he can come back. Actually they better bring him back in a future game or DLC, because if it ends like this, I swear I'm gonna scream.
Do you remember when we imagined the "choose your guardian" dlc? What a joke, it would have been so much better to save them rather than "Gregory" or rather this Mimic that I hate. Hopefully they make two more dlcs or something with Chica and Monty with their own kids to protect. But it's too good to become true I guess.

My theory about Roxy being a node is that the security system ai, as advanced as it is, determined that cassie's emotional attachment might deter her from shutting Roxy down. It only makes that change partway through the games, which is why Roxy didnt have the same red cast as the other nodes when we first met her. As for why she's able to speak & remember cassie, I think it might be because her vital hardware is still intact despite her casing being shot to hell. Her individual attractions seem more based around interacting directly with kids, where chica and monty's roles were more as mascots for their areas. I think she could have been hardwired to be kind to kids and hold conversations with them during open hours, resulting in her speech and memory abilities being more well-safeguarded against malfunctioning & staying intact while Monty & chica's degraded.

So once you've kept the flashlight on for long enough, there's a chance he'll drop in, sinisterly mention something about his perpetual crusade against light sources, then try to get you, forcing you to turn off the light so you can hide from him, or shine him with the flashlight to chase him away. This could then also add more narrative tension about going to the daycare, as Cassie knows she's going to have to deal with the thing that's been chasing her all night so far, and turning him into Eclipse isn't just a neat thing that happens, but actually feels useful for getting rid of a threat.

In regards to Chica. Yeah, let's hope she becomes an ally too, and that repairing her voice-box is canon. As I do think she deserves some limelight like Monty and Roxy.
I know it may seem counterintuitive to have a horror game with not one, but three (possibly four if Bonnie is included) allies helping. Considering the state their in. Even in Cassie/Gregory/Vanessa repairs them a bit. They are not in any position to protect anyone. Even Roxy herself only slowed the Mimic down.
Speaking of the mimic. He would work perfectly in this situation. Just imagine you hear Monty from a vent "I managed to get the door open, go left that door should be unlocked now. I know that if this were the case, “Gregory” probably would’ve mentioned it beforehand, but hey, it’s a possibility. Alternatively, if Roxy did indeed attempt to replace her face and/or head like people assumed and it’s not just a random total overhaul of her endo, then maybe she accidentally installed something that contained a node. I know both of these theories are a bit of a stretches, but I figured I’d at least throw ‘em out there.

I interpreted Ellipse as Sun and Moon finally merging.
Like, what if Sun and Moon were simply acting personas? Like, when Eclipse was still the Theatre robot, his two main roles were the Sun and Moon.
But then, when the Glitchtrap Virus took control of him, it acted as a sort of Jekyll and Hyde potion and made the split between Sun and Moon much more literal.
Suns line of “make us whole again” is what really makes me think this.
Then, when the DA is fully rebooted, Ellipse is whole once again. Sun and Moon are finally made whole again.
I think Suns final “thank you” was a final breath so to speak before fully merging.
I also think Suns line of “Not me, the other me!!” Was him talking about his physical form. I believe you can only talk to Sun with the mask on because he’s trapped in an eternal nap, aka, stuck in the digital world. So when he said reboot the “other me”, he’s not talking about Moon, but rather his physical self.
It’s kinda sad that would mean Sun and Moon are gone forever, but I like the possible implications of Eclipse being a recovered Dr Jekyll with no memories learning that his two personas were given life and caused havoc around the Pizzaplex.
I really like leaning into the Jekyll and Hyde aspect of Eclipse, Sun and Moon.

I think glamrock chica is covered in the Monty's Mystery Mix ( lots of people seem to have forgotten about that!) But it's what we used to lure her into the trash compactor in the first place, and it also said she was absolutely crazy about it, so when the place went to shits it makes sense that she would go around gobbling up all the mystery mix she could find.
Also, regarding Chica's voice box, I think it may be something for a super secret ending. Because there's a monty golfing arcade game as well, although i dont know what happens if you get a good score in that. So who's to say there isn't also a roxy racers game? Maybe if you get good scores in them all, you'll get Monty's Claws or Roxy's Eyes, and you can get a completely different ending. And im SO GLAD its not actually Afton
the mimic being down there presumably being used to help code the SB animatronics also explains how they have complex personalities. They have AI in their brains to develop personalities and remember information like how Roxie remembers Cassie has no friends and also likes carrot cake.
It could also explain how extreme their personalities are in the events of SB
Chica's AI was told to be a foodie, the AI took that to the extreme and now Chica eats garbage.
Roxy's AI was told to be competitive and look nice, Roxi now has narcissistic personality disorder.
Monty was told to be a gator i guess? and now he wants to bite everything that moves.

No 80 million staff bots who can somehow see you from 20 yards away(seriously, it's like they confused more staff bots with harder difficulty when they were mostly just annoying). The atmosphere was really good. Lots of tension. The only part that was kinda meh to me was the Monty Golf section. I like the idea of Gregory sometimes speaking(mostly through Easter Eggs) and at other times it's the Mimic. Now the community is debating on if the one who dropped the elevator was just the Mimic again or if it was actually Gregory. I personally, think it's Gregory. With how brutally gregory took parts of the animatronics originally, n how 1 of the endings has him flat out killing vanessa n watching it happen, while another has him not care that a woman just fell to her death. Yeah, sure those endings were likely drawn by gregory, but that means before saving vanessa, he wanted to kill her. Or maybe even after saving her he still had that fantasy enough to draw it in a comic to leave behind. Either way, he was already dreaming of killing n had killed multiple animatronics with personalities he could clearly see. N if he went there frequently before the incident, he would know all of them very well. If he knew cassie n was at one of her birthday parties (roxy says she was number 1 twice. I take that as meaning she had 2 parties there) n knew roxy was here favorite he would've SEEN THIS SIDE OF ROXY BEFORE RUNNING HER OVER WITH A RACECART. Him being willing to murder Cassie 100% tracks for me. Just makes it clear he is just that bad of a kid.

Very, very comprehensive video that explains basically everything with Ruin while still leaving the more lore heavy stuff for a later date, which btw I can’t wait for that video involving Bonnie.
Overall, Ruin was pretty good, I’d say. Not the best, a lot of stuff felt a bit shoehorned in and rushed like the daycare section and Roxy and Cassie’s relationship, but this was a great and noticeable step up from the base game, even if the story has been screwed further than it already was.
Gameplay wise, ignoring the Sci-Fi parts, I liked how they made the animatronics teleporting after you a part of MSEX’s gig as opposed to them just appearing due to the security bots spotting you. The atmosphere was way better and creepier that SB proper and tbh the headless Freddy chase sequence was the best part of the whole DLC for me. All that said, Ruin is a solid 6 or 7 out of 10 for me.

While I got some bad vibes from what I've seen of the game so far, I do like that Roxy was basically redeemed and I thought the game looked nice. The AR mechanic was interesting and visually my favorite parts of the game.
Cassie is a wild change for the series. A female human with both agency and the ability to move the plot is a first. She has motivation and an understandable emotional investment. Her loneliness making her reckless enough to do any of this is actually established in the story. Wow. It also makes sense that the Mimic would choose her as a victim due to this. Now, if Steel Wool can resist the urge to retcon her as a robot or a ghost or a ghost in the robot, or Gregory's dream or always under the control of Peepaw Afton, we will finally have a solid female protagonist here. Don't fuck it up, Steel Wool. We don't need another haunted robot girl or any more dead women to motivate male characters to commit atrocities with silly science. Just let her be a brave, lonely girl doing her best.
Also, I weirdly like that elephant clown suit. It's cute. Which is saying something because I don't like clowns. But elephants are awesome. Anyways, great video! Looking forward to that Bonnie video!

Edit: Considering that you apparently hear Roxy say Cassie at the end of the elevator ending it would be interesting if this Mimic pulls a book Mimic and mimics Roxy and her more compassionate approach, could be a neat theme to explore, not that I'm against just having Roxy find Cassie and them having an adventure together or something.

I believe it’s implied Cassie’s father made M.X.E.S., as on the Bonnie lunchbox it says that Bonnie was his favorite, and given he’s creating an A.I. maybe he had a little fun with it and modeled it after Bonnie, maybe after Bonnie got replaced by Monty, to subtly protest against the company.
To add on that I have a little speculation that Cassie’s old man may have set up a lot of the security system, maybe alongside Vanessa. That may also be the reason why Roxy is a node, as she was his daughter’s favorite character, plus for practical reasons, who would ever think to look in the animatronics for security nodes? Especially someone like Roxy? I may speculate further that possibly Cassie’s dad programmed Roxy’s personality, maybe sneaking in some mechanics for protecting Cassie specifically, making sure she always was supportive of Cassie, and unable to harm her.
Anyways glad you’re back, I was excited to see your takes on Ruin!

Bro there was absolutely no build up for Roxanne’s relationship with Cassie aside from one previous interaction and super subtle environmental details. Then the game expects you to Bawl your eyes out after rebooting her only for them to come back 5 minutes later. Steel Wool still cannot tell a decently structured story to save their lives.
Lastly regarding the Burntrap Mimic and Prototype Freddy debate, as well as which ending is canon, Security Breach threw so many wrenches in the franchise that Ruin essentially only exists to retcon the entire game, as aspects from multiple endings appear in it (not the comics you find) that would have been mutually exclusive are present together, entire character designs were revamped and break continuity entirely (namely Roxanne herself as well as Freddy to a lesser extent) to the point where it is simply too convoluted and contradictory no matter what approach you take when trying to explain it.
FNaF should really just pull a hard reset at this point, it’s broken beyond repair. Start fresh, go back to the 80’s and 90’s and start anew. There’s nothing left for us here except a mangled corpse.

I agree with the Protype stamp beign a retcon and not a new foot. The fact it is so prominently on display makes me believe they want us to see it and that bit is a partial explanation to Freddy's uniqueness in the first game. It took so much longer for him to be corrupted, and I think this is a key reason. It makes sense that Freddy was the first one made and that they would just use him if the protype was sucessfull enough from the start, to save costs. Vanny wouldnt knoe it was an old animatornic unless she specifically sae that stamp under that foot. It makes sense that the other bots may be running on a slightly different or streamlines softwear as well. It is possible this made them more suseptable. It is also possibel that Vanny altered the programming for the new bots hetrself that made them more suseptible to the glutchtrap control, not realizing Freddy was already made and thus opperating on the pre-altered software. Reagurdless which of this was the ultimate cause, i think Freddy being a prototype is ehat made him more resiliant and able to help Gregory.

The only thing that irks me about the Prototype Freddy situation is that if it really was meant to be a retcon detail that was suppose to be always on that version of Freddy. You would think that Steel Wool would just update the original SB updating Freddy’s texture with Prototype on the foot. I’m not a game designer, so I don’t know if that would be difficult, so maybe I have no idea what I’m talking about. But the fact that they drew big attention to it in Ruin really makes me feel like there’s something there. It’s literally one of the first things you see in huge text on the foot of that headless Freddy. For that reason I feel if it really was just a “retcon” detail it would almost be a dick move by Steel Wool as FNAF has always been the series about small details being important.
