The reasons are similar to the treatment of Black people in the US. The Europeans didn't enslave Black people because they racist it was for free labor, but then they had to justify to themselves why it's not a problem so the racism increased to explain why free labor is ok. Jewish people didn't want to create a Jewish state on Palestinian land because they were racist it was for having a place where they aren't the minority so they would have protection but then they needed to justify to themselves why it's not a problem and so the racism increased.
