The problem of the Union or United States of India, or often called Central Govt. Is ruled since 1947 by spineless politico-bureacrats. They have had no gumption to declare and enforce uniform rules and conditions for all citizens. So we suffer endlessly. Unless this fundamental conflict is resolved, no peaceful coexistence is possible.
It would have been great if you could have compiled the public comments to your presentation in the NALSAR event (@ 42:25 and @ 1:07:25 )- of course any ordinary viewer would have caught that the panel was not balanced - there were 2 people mostly shouting their points of view and one person stating facts in an even tone. The assam lawyer-on-ground was citing lone examples and was driven more by emotion and not legal or moral correctness in discussing the assam events. However, since the audience was mostly students of law and perhaps good quality students their commentary would have been worth retaining for reference by other viewers. Very sad if universities clamp down public opinion and freedom of expression - and they go around blaming the BJP led government for not permitting dissent... what a state of affairs is this.

If so, instead of going for NRC, can't India use the databases of Aadhaar cardholders and perhaps cards for legal immigrants and refugees (something like US' green card) - if these cards have a chip on it, a simple device can be used to scan and ensure that the individual's citizenship/residence records exist in the database. Those that doesn't have access to their record due to perhaps card damage can be asked to produce additional documents as proof. Those that are not in the databases at all can be nabbed and deported (Disclaimer: this would only work if Aadhaar is available for all Indian citizens, and all legal immigrants have a similar kind of identity card) What say you?

(@ 42:25 and @ 1:07:25 )- of course any ordinary viewer would have caught that the panel was not balanced - there were 2 people mostly shouting their points of view and one person stating facts in an even tone. The assam lawyer-on-ground was citing lone examples and was driven more by emotion and not legal or moral correctness in discussing the assam events. However, since the audience was mostly students of law and perhaps good quality students their commentary would have been worth retaining for reference by other viewers. Very sad if universities clamp down public opinion and freedom of expression - and they go around blaming the BJP led government for not permitting dissent... what a state of affairs is this.

Is Aadhaar card available to all Indian citizens? If so, instead of going for NRC, can't India use the databases of Aadhaar cardholders and perhaps cards for legal immigrants and refugees (something like US' green card) - if these cards have a chip on it, a simple device can be used to scan and ensure that the individual's citizenship/residence records exist in the database. Those that doesn't have access to their record due to perhaps card damage can be asked to produce additional documents as proof. Those that are not in the databases at all can be nabbed and deported (Disclaimer: this would only work if Aadhaar is available for all Indian citizens, and all legal immigrants have a similar kind of identity card) What say you?
