I found with my kids that the balance bike was great. However when my first moved on to pedals she had a difficult time figuring out how hard she needed to pedal. I put training wheels on the bike and she rode across a parking lot a couple times, training wheels came off after 10 minutes and we hit the trail no problems whatsoever.

Most USABMX tracks have balance bike races and this helped my daughter immensely! See other kids riding the balance bikes as well as seeing other kids riding on the full BMX track. I have done the flying bike "trick" many times to get her from the finish line back to the start line for the next races.

Seeing how quickly my grandkids learned to balance and then progress to pedals vs. how hard it was for our kids to learn balancing and pedaling at the same time was very enlightening. Wish balance bikes had been a common thing back in the 90's.

Sleeper Co. watching at 3:56 I can only imagine they're drawing parallels from nipper to dad in terms of following instructions from the crew!

With a little one on the way, I'm pretty keen on seeing how they take to the balance bike. Great video, btw

Great info. In the days before balance bikes, I got my kids going w pedal bikes but removed the pedals. One less piece of equipment to grow out of. The speed that munchkins outgrow stuff can be amazing

I hear yeah about the back pain. I had my daughter when I was in my mid-30's. Her first bike had pedals but I got a push bar from our local sports store and it worked awesome. It attached behind the seat on the seat post. She would start and say, "Dad, don't let go." Of course I let go and she never knew. If there was an obstacle I could easily grab the push bar to prevent a major crash. Also, we had a trail-a-bike. It helped her sense of balance on a bike and gave her a thrill to go faster than she could do on her own. We rode all over the city.

Kickbike was the best way for all my children to learn the way on 2 wheels. Recommend it strongly!👍

Trying to get my three year old girl to ride a bike as well. She has a balance bike and has been improving every time she gets on. But, sometimes will go a few days between riding since she wants to do other things. Right now she is all about her new scooter a friend gave to us. Hopefully, the scooter takes a backseat in the coming days.

My oldest son got a wooden likeabike for his 1st birthday. I took the rear wheel off and made it a 3 wheeler using wood and scooter wheels. He would crawl to the bike and climb on go so technically he could ride before he could walk 😂😂😂. Roller blade knee and elbow pad's are the cheapest protection at that age.

Neither of my nephews learned to ride a bike with training wheels nor did their dad
The one nephew was riding on 4 x 4's within a half hour of hopping on a bike but the other one sucked
I finally got him on my parents dirt hill in the woods with a nice semi-hard road going downhill. He started riding right away, got to the bottom of the hill, crossed another road and jumped the ditch into the neighbors front lawn. He had forgotten about how to use the brakes on the bike.
He is like twenty-five and has not ridden a bike since that day except an exercise bike. Luckily he is naturely skinny

Sit the kids down and have them watch the movie, E.T.. There is good bicycle riding in it. Also, they can learn to be featured on future Friday Fails, when they see E.T. making the bikes fly!

My god daughter grew out of a balance bike, she now has no pedals. Which is funny, one of her first words was bike, then, when her mum got her her first balance bike, she didnt like it because it didnt have pedals.

Balance bikes with motors (Stacyc) are excellent. My oldest son started riding a Stacyc at 4 years old and the transition to a regular mountain bike was extremely smooth. The motor provides the momentum necessary to learn how to balance and made our rides together much more enjoyable.

Kick scooters with large air tires are the best solution to learn to cycle properly. The wrong reflexes are trained when riding a balance bike. Because your feet must remain on the vehicle even in an emergency situation. You have to learn to maintain your body tension and lean against the braking force.
Thinking that it would be better with a balance bike is a mental short-circuit. These people become dangerous and bad cyclists.
If you look closely, you can easily see which children are learning with the balance bike and what mistakes they are making.

Jackson Goldstone learned on a balance bike. I'd say he's a very very dangerous and awful cyclist.

Or you could just take the pedals off your child's bike and save lots of cash ....😂😂
