The Q4 SF is my first Walther and I believe I did good! Great shooting pistol! Carrying it daily…
Graham, you're a 'Walther fan-boy' because Walther makes classy products with excellent quality-- and so am I!
🖒😎
#bringthepaddlereleaseback!
The PPQ is like any painting van Gogh ever did. Subtle and beautiful
For this Q4 model, one additional benefit from it being steel and using it for service/concealed carry is if you run out of ammo you can use it as a blunt weapon and not have to worry as much about it breaking on a numbskull's head. :)
Thanks for the tabletop review! Hope I can afford one soon.
The PPQ is so damned good. If you want a compact/duty-size reliable quality production 9mm and demand a steel frame, just stop here. This is it. I have two PPQ's and I'll be buying one of these.
Did you see that review where the guy does the torture test on his $1200 Q4?
Never been into Walthers, but that is a gorgeous firearm!
Well myself owning 2 Walthers already, and it looks like I’ll need another! Appreciating and enjoying the smoothness shooting a Walther is all the reason I need to own that one too!
THE ONE I'VE BEEN WAITING FOR!!! THANKS, GRAHAM!
Great review. It is about personal preference. For me, the Walther Q4 is the finest 9MM Semi Auto in the World! Great ergonomics, smooth trigger, dependable, and easy to handle.
OMG!!!! Who ever heard of an ALL STEEL PISTOL? It's a miracle!!!! Thanks JMB for 100 years plus..... I do love my P99AS .40 to 9mm conversion suppressed.
Thanks. Looking forward to the range report.
I have been searching CZcams at least twice per week for this.thanks for the video
Sorry, I've had the gun longer, but had a lot going on with visiting Century Arms, etc.
Graham Baates did you say the rear sight is adjustable on the fixed sight model? Isn’t the rear sight held in place by a spring detent?
Nice !! Way to go Walther. I see my bank account dwindling as I speak. Great review Graham . Looking forward to the range session. Killer grips for that bad boy.
Thank you for this wonderful gun review. I really enjoyed and appreciate it. Stay blessed always. 🙂👌👍🙏
Honestly every time I look at the Q4 I see a hipoint for a second. I can't stop seeing it
Good looking customized pistols. The look reflects the price.
Nice work! Great thorough video on the Q4! 👊🤠
Good video and we can all agree Walther makes great products.
Great review once again Graham! This might be a “have to” purchase!!!!
Грэм, ствол угарный! Обожаю Вальтер. Качество и исполнение на Ура 👍👍 Немцы своё дело знают. Твой обзор как обычно тип топ . Продолжай в таком духе! Удачи тебе Грэм!
I'm so envious!!
Love when gun's come with test target. The Sig Trailside's came with an imitation medalion with a cutout of the test target grouping. Almost always had extremely impressive groups.
Oh baby. First time I've lusted after a striker fired pistol in years. Trade you for a heavily used kidney Graham?
Thanks for the great review. Already have the Q5 SF so will definitely be adding this one to my collection. Just hope it's not as hard to get as the Q5 SF was. If I wasn't already bald I would have gone bald tryna get the Q5 SF
I am a Walther fan, my #1 favorite handgun.
You got hand it to the German not only they make great cars also great guns.
I'm drooling right now ,, wish i can afford it.
Thanks brother I appreciate this video very much 😎💯🙌🏼I’ve always liked the Walthers ever sense James Bond
Finally a Walther worthy of the P-38 a striker fired all steel 9mm , well I will have to get one
Awsome guns, nice!.
I want this so bad for the collection but that price point 💀
Thanks for doing the 2 vids on this, GB 👍🏾
We've got three if you've seen the slow motion comparison.
I haven’t, but about check it out 🙌🙌🙌
Great video.
Looks like a train engine in the front. Very cool!
Looking forward to range. We appreciate the honesty & format of your reviews. I would carry this gun in a heartbeat. Home defense, range. This might inch out the 226 Legion I intend to get.
Thank you. The range video is already public in the AmmoLand article
I just got a Walther Q4 steel frame. I’ve handled and shot the SIG P229 and P226 Legions. No comparison! The Walther is a work of art! The machining on the frame is awesome. The fit and finish superb. Skip the SIG.
Usually when I purchase a gun I find something about it I dont like after shooting it a few times. With the Q4 sf optic cut...the only thing I dont like is the fact that I dont have one for each hand. I will eventually remedy that.
Exceptional assessment as usual... Would be all over this if it had the Paddle magazine releases a la the early Walthers and HKs... Be well, safe, and vigilant in these and all times...
It would be made if Americans weren't so slow to recognize superior technology.
The more I look at this gun the more I want it. I handled the SF Q5 yesterday and now I can't stop thinking about it. I just wish they would do a paddle version.
This is one of my grail guns, for sure.
I like how this gun has a spot for my wrist lanyard.
Now if only Walther would put out a steel frame P99 in 45 cal with paddle style magazine release. (We can dream, right?)
For the 4 inch, I wish they would have went with an alloy to lighten it up a bit but still maintain that metal feel. It is a duty gun, not a match gun.
Notice the distinctive sound, when placed upon the lumber....Not your typical Tupperware manufactured firearm...Real Guns are Steel guns..Wink Wink..
I would really like to see a PPQ Q5 ish creation in DA/SA hammer fired variant... and PPQ SC da/sa hammer.
Me too. Although the p99 as is a good close enough
Wished it came in the M1 model.
Paddle mag release!
Me too! Still kinda want one tho, heavy price tag and all. Love my 5in M1 and .45 M2 but I do prefer all metal guns (I'm both a PPQ fan boy and CZ fanboy and tend to shoot my metal CZs more just cause they're metal).
@@SEAKPhotog I remember when I got my PPQ in 2013 and I used to fantasize about Walther making it in steel. They did and it exceeds my expectations except for leaving off the paddle option. Huge disappointment.
@@stopthephilosophicalzombie9017 Completely agree about the lack of the paddle! It's such a better mag release option. Love it on my M1.
@@stopthephilosophicalzombie9017 Oh and I bought a Q5 SF not too long ago. Couldn't resist. 😉
Walther is my favorite gun brand. Love those red grips!
I like metal guns !& you said something like if you get this gun it won’t be your 1st Walther.dk yet if I’ll get it ,but it looks killer.grips are very nice.some people won’t admit it ,but ,admit it or not ,the majority of people like their things, guns included,to look good.(too many commas...My grammar teachers always got onto me about “run on sentences “.oh well)don’t have any lok (sp?)grips yet but think bogies would feel good.also been looking at all the surplus beretta 81s that came in to the US from Italy around October. And 1 guy posted a video in the last few days on a new old stock beretta 81 ,32 caliber he bought on a whim.that pistol retails for $700+.he got it NIB for $300ish.Reason I mentioned the beretta 81 ...while searching 32 autos,a large percentage of articles/videos ect made reference to design of Walthers .this comment is getting all over the place .just wanted to say thx for the video & nice gun!you have good taste.iv been into revolvers for a long time.last simi auto I bought was a new glock 33 gen 3 with factory night sights.a friend recommended it & it looked great on paper (velocity ect)..DID NOT ENJOY SHOOTING THAT GUN AT ALL!!!Should have sold it but it wound up getting stolen in a break in at my home. I reported it & don’t miss it.going to finish watching the video now.Only 5:25 into it & had to compliment.again....nice!! I’m buying something soon, options are good.have a good one. PS.tried subscribing but already was .thumbs up though...L8r
Just noticed that the disassembly method is different on steel frames.
I just don’t see how people think these look like Hi-Points any more than Volvo V-70 looks like a Volvo Cross Country. Yes both have a wagon profile, but the Cross Country is so much more bulbous that they really don’t look all that similar, especially when parked next to each other. Go to a gun store and place them side-by-side and they look more different than a Glock 19 vs a CZ P-10c. And if you place them within your hands, the differences are even greater. I guess I just don’t get it???🤔🤔🤔
it does though. its the frame to slide ratio. its just kinda ugly imho
Gorgeous. Love Walther. Just wish they would cut their mags (or Mec Gar or whoever makes them) to work with both M1 and M2 style releases. Are those grips rubberized??
Those are solid G10! 😎👌
LOK Grips Love Lok Grips! I bought a set of slim black checkered G10 grips from you guys for my CZ 75 Compact.
Nice
How does the grip size compare to the medium backstrap grip on the polymer PPQ? The Match SF just doesn’t fit my hand quite as well as the Q5 Match with the medium backstrap.
A fancy Hi-Point😆
If HiPoint made anything near the quality of that gun I'd be buying it.

Some people are just ignorant about firearms. I ignore it, they'll learn eventually
That's what I was thinking. Looks like a sig and hi point got a little froggy and popped out a walther.
@Rodney Gore easy trigger, you're the one having a meltdown over a joke. People in glass houses shouldn't shoot a walther.
She's a beauty. I just bought an FN. I might have considered this if I'd have known about it. Is there an optics ready version?
They do have an optics ready version as well.
Wow, what a grips!
You said the rear sight is adjustable? Isn’t the rear sight kept in place by a spring loaded detent? Would make it non moving/adjustable.
Great purchase, Graham! Just out of curiosity, are the Lok grips on Q4 slimmer than the factory grips? They do seem like that. Also, any idea if Lok make custom grips with slightly slimmer humps for Q5/4, kinda like with the slim back strap on the polymer q5.
They feel slightly slimmer. I'm sure if you ask they can make just about anything.
@@GBGuns Ah, thanks, that's good to know.
These are similar shape/thickness to the stock grips. We do also offer thin grips. The thin grips have a straight back strap and we flattened out the finger grooves on them to be more like a 1911 grip!
lokgrips.com/walther
I agree the trigger on the steel frame is a bit better.
Tuxedo gun in a Galco shoulder rig. That’s what that pistol is for!
Beautiful gun, I wonder why its shaving brass though. I had a glock 17 that did the same thing . And I few times brass made it in the striker channel and it wouldn't fire.
My Walther PPS did that for a little while in the beginning.
Its a non issue....my q4 sf goes bang everytime. Be thankful the glock simply wouldnt fire....as there are many examples of blown up guns on the web and most of them are glocks.
Just picked one up today due in no small part from watching both of your q4 sf videos. I was wary of the weight going in, but once in hand it just feels so balanced.
Any reason you chose the non-optic ready variant? Also any idea if lok grips offer red g10 like the grip on yours. Only see blue on their site.
They should have red, I thought they made these! I got this gun in pre-release for an article. When that happens authors seldom get a choice of what comes in. I document some of the process to share with y'all here on CZcams and then release the videos when the guns are released.
I have a ppq m2. The new steele one comes with extended mag release that you didnt cover. Can you purchase an extended mag release for the polymer ppq m2. That the only thing i dislike on my ppq m2. Broken thumb twice. Hard to reach wirh that small hood around it. Any info on that?
Is the slide of the Q4 SF the same as other polymer 4" barrel PPQ's?
2nd time watching maybe 3rd. Your killing me!nice.is that bigger smaller than G19.nothing like German steel
gun companies should innovate on polymer designs and make special edition steel versions of their big sellers
There is a certain sense of trust and believability that exudes from your reviews. The fact that you have a female shooter, with smaller hands and, I assume, less experience than you, adds something that is missing in most other firearm reviewers. This is not just appealing to prospective female buyers, but from those of us males with little experience and hand strength. I also like your "What's For Dinner?" segments, since, until I started researching handguns, I never realized that all 9mm handguns shoot all 9mm ammo pretty much equally. I've watched hundreds of firearm reviews on CZcams recently, which makes me see the merit in doing a separate bench review and another for shooting. Also, instead of just watching you fire off several hundred rounds (a bit boring), your division of the shooting reviews into segments, is much more informative. Anyone can tell me what the stats are for first 500 or 3,000 rounds regarding misfires, etc. That said, I have almost no experience with any sort of guns. 35 years ago I fired my son-in-law's Beretta 9 mm, and had little control of the gun. Entire experience was unpleasant, and he was a gun professional. So my main concern is finding something where the recoil is more like a .22 or .380. And I'll end up buying one of those if I can't find 9mm that would be similar in recoil, muzzle rise, etc. for a first time shooter. And finally, when it comes to purchasing guns, like watches (I collect them) and cars, I'm as much concerned with the artistry of the manufacturing process as I am with perfect accuracy. This Walther is a thing of beauty. At least from the pictures it appears like an object of art, as much as a very accurate and reliable deadly handgun. The price is not a problem (I have watches in my collection that are more). I'm considering the P5 all metal version with the idea that the extra barrel length and weight will have less recoil. O.K. This is way to long. Can you comment on comparative recoil with the P5 vs .22 or .380? Also, do you teach beginner firearm lessons?
Walther p 38 👑
One of the complaints about the Q5 was that the rear of the rightside frame wears on people's thumb joint area (of the right hand). I held a Q5, and I can see how that happens. The rear of the Q4 looks a little different. Did you notice any irritation on your hand in the same place?
No, but I didn't have any issues with the regular models either. I think it depends on hand size, hand shape, and grip style.
IF.. I were to ever get a Q4 I would quite possibly ask LOK make that exact grip for mine. No kidding.
They'll do it
Hope they make a steel frame 45
Love walther. They don't recommended fee plus in SC. What happens if you do use P+?
There's no reason to use it in a 4"
Ok..promise,last comment.WOW.definitely art.germans make some high quality things for sure.!. I have no qualms paying for quality.2 questions..#1,size comparison.Please.#2 ,the grips, exactly what’s the model on those.minus your custom logo of course.i have bought one set of G10 grips in my life.they were from VZ.smooth 320 black cherry for S&W 66-2.2.5 inch barrel. I have only 1 real “gun”belt.black nylon from Kore essentials with x5 buckle.a little stiff but is starting to break in.and a Garrett industries OWB STX holster w leather loops & pull dot snaps.all the belts & holsters ,grips ect can be a challenge to choose from just seeing online.pretty happy with belt & holster choice but you know way more about that stuff so open to suggestions for sure.never had an IWB but want to give it a try. Thinking black arch appendix.small hybrid w 3/4 trigger guard.know this is a lot but ,any thoughts or recommendations for accessories that might be better? Thx in advance & have a good one.enjoy your new Walther.
Is the trigger also now a steel part or is it still polymer?
What concealed carry and OWB holster fit this weapon?
Are any new production pistols being made in .32 acp ?
If I want to replace the front sight like with a dawson which one will work? It doesn't specifically list the q4sf?
I don't know for sure if the cut is any different than a regular PPQ
Was always interested in the PPQ and the HK VP SK9. I did, however, buy a Springfield XDS Mod 1 a while ago, considering cost, and tweaked it for various, concerning my needs. It has been a real performer with practice. Although it is a slab type weapon with low capacity. I am interested in this version of the steel frame as I constantly carry a Bersa Thunder UC 9 during the Winter with an alloy frame and it outperforms the XDs from capacity and accuracy, in my experience. Although it is a bit heavier, being honest, I like it much better than the XDs. It has a solid gun feel and is a very nominal fit for my old, large hands. Steel frames, like the days before nylon and polymer, were very reliable and accurate from the standpoint of handling and wear. I think Walther has something going here and am glad they are making the change. Although I love the PPQ as a firearm concept, I believe they are making the correct move to steel. It makes for a heavier weapon but one that may be more accurate and controllable for the novice user. I do own an old and at that time, unreliable Walther P22, depending on ammo. I have dealt with Walther here in the US for warranty service. They are a good company and have very well met expectations for my problems. So I would not be concerned with issues on a new version of old and proven engineering. Red grips are a turn off for me. You may think it's all pizazz, but colors should just be tactical, Black, Flat Dark Earth or Sand. IMHO. The purpose of a weapon is survival. Not color. This stuff ain't jewelry. Or my balls are bigger than your balls. These are developed for self defense. Let's keep glitter out of the equation. Thanks for your videos. Subbed you a while back.
Thanks for the feedback. I figure if someone sees my gun they're seeing my gun. The grips disappear when the gun is in my hands anyways.
great review, but I think the polymer ppq and new pdp does exactly that: "quality and price point", which is why this sf is hard to justify.
Find me another all steel pistol that matches the quality of the Q4 sf for 1500 bucks....closest I have is my wilson combat experior, and it has aluminum frame not steel and still cost 1000 bucks more. This pistol is a bargain for what you get....the polymer is nice, but if you want the nicest gun at the range get the Q4 sf. Perfection costs money....if they started cutting corners to save a buck you would end up with a cz. Dont get me wrong I love my CZ....but if you take the thing apart there isnt even a coating underneath the slide.... People who think this gun doesnt have a justifiable price point are delusional.
@@broot1375 I got one used for $850, compared and shot it with my PPQ tac. Sold it for a profit, I preferred the polymer in every way and still couldn't justify keeping it at the great discount I grabbed it at. It's a heavy gun and the triggers were practically the same. There are other guns at that price point that have significant upgrades in quality that I would choose over the Q4 SF. No delusion, it's personal preference, glad you found its worth. I also think the low resale values and even discounts on new Q4 SF is further proof it was over priced.
@@rt1326 some people pick up a plastic pistol and appreciate the weight...other pick them up and think to themselves they dont make em like they used to....just a matter of opinion I guess
Is the coat of arms on the grip your design? Where do you get the grips?
It's the emblem used for GBGuns. The grips were made by LOK grips.
Does it come in .45 acp
Just for the record, when you were talking about the manufacturer with a useless ambi-safety were you referring to the HK VP9?
No, does it have one too?
Hah I was thinking the same thing. That is one of the reasons I passed on the VP9 for the PPQ. The VP9 just does not seem to have the same quality other HK's or Walther's have.
The gun is all steel; is the trigger steel or polymer?😳
They're polymer i believe according to the website !!!
Are those the thin grips or standard from LOK? Which do you prefer?
I believe we only have the standard
Does anyone have any idea when this is suppose to hit stores? I haven't heard anything in like a month
they are in the stores now. my lgs has one I'm thinking about purchasing .
It’s not a modern Walther without the paddle magazine release.
Where can one get those grips???
PPQ have 2 series. They are not interchangeable. I'm guessing these take series 2 magazine's.
Resembles a Hi Point
I love how they got rid of the safety like the CCP. This is my new dream gun. I don’t do polymer
The PPQ never had a safety.
Looking at the grip-butt, it appears that the there is provision for a stock/brace.
Nonsense! That's just the place you'd hang your 'anti-gun, democrat' scalps from! Lol
That’s where you would put the flared magazine well like on the Q5 SF Pro, but I guess someone could design other attachments.
March 2020...ITS ONLY BEEN 9 MONTHS!!!??!SEEMS LIKE 5 YEARS!!!
Is there a threaded barrel that will fit in it?
A good source for that info would be Walther's website
This would be the perfect gun if it were made of Forged Aluminum!
Yeah because there are not enough aluminum framed guns out there....lol. Just get one....its already perfect.
When is it being released?
It was released at SHOT January, 2020
Graham Baates
I know it was announced but haven’t seen it available at any retailer.
What are those color lok grips are? Please please tell me thanks
I don't recall but if you ask them about the "GBGuns Grips" they may be able to look it up.
Thanks for sharing (and great job as always), but $1350 for a 4" barreled striker-fired pistol? I might pay that for a highly tuned DA/SA carry gun, but never a striker-fired pistol. When the Glock 17 came out in the 1980's, they retailed for $560. Why? Even though they were cheaper to make, Gaston was warned that people would assume they were cheaply made if he didn't charge that much (because he wanted to charge considerably less). The Glock 17 is roughly the same price today as Glock's popularity and economy of scale has allowed the company to maintain the price while many other firearms have gone way up (like shotguns and rifles). But I can get an all steel DA/SA CZ for a heck of a lot less ($500-$600). No standard size (non-competition) PPQ is worth $1350. That is nuts. I'd pay that for a nice Wilson Combat or LTT Beretta 92 Centurion, but not a striker-fired gun. No way.
Hi point with gb red grip?
You must be new to firearms
I just bought a Walther Q4 Steel Frame and didn’t get a test target.
Make your own
I wish most guns are steel framed instead of cheap plastic
Do you think it's weird that the trigger shoe is polymer?
No because when triggers are metal people complain that they get too hot.
