    This seems to describe my acne perfectly. I just got labs back with a TSH above 6 and antibodies were detected. My acne is really ruining me. I can hardly eat a thing without excruciating deep acne. It can appear anywhere on my body, but mostly face and scalp. I have lots of other low thyroid symptoms too (except I'm underweight). I've suffered from constipation/sluggish bowel for decades. I'm seeing a functional Dr for the second appt. soon. I am on no thyroid meds. I'm hoping my functional Dr puts me on the right track. Great tutorial. Thank you

    The only thing i knew for sure was my acne (im 42) was related to my period which is related to my hormones. Now I understand how that relates to my thyroid or lack thereof. 😔

    Very interesting! I had clear skin all throughout my life, then suddenly got painful and persistent acne (mostly on my chin, but elsewhere in small/non-painful amounts) when I was 29/30. I thought it might be related to estrogen levels changing, but it really is all connected to other hormones and the gut, like you’ve said.
    I’ve made dietary changes and added supplements, prebiotics, probiotics, etc., so it’s fine now, but the hyperpigmentation on my chin is still very prominent. Would have been nice if I could have popped in to a doctor’s office and had them diagnose me correctly vs. enduring the general “I don’t know” attitude a lot of doctors have who don’t know about hormones or the microbiome...

    I have finally seemed to find the issue after watching the video and doing research. My thyroid antibodies is high (from 529 in 2017 to 191 this year), and my TSH is high 4.31, T3 at 31%. I am 23 years old and suddenly developed acne last year all over my face , forehead, scalp. I also have gut issues but my doctors never treated these or tell me about my results. He prescribed me birth control instead. I also have symptoms like heart palpitations, fatigue, difficulty breathing, sleep troubles, persistent acne, depression, weight gain (when i didn't eat much), back pain, and memory loss. I just started taking a thyroid supplement and really hope that helps. But don't know if I should do more to fix my acne, which affects me the most emotionally.

      Girl! I had developed rosacea and cystic acne. Seen derms and was tested for lupus, and even went on Accutane. Nothing got rid of it. This year, I finally went to see a ND and did a food sensitivity test and I switched to desiccated thyroid, eliminating all the foods I’m sensitive to and my rosacea is almost gone. I’m still experiencing cystic acne here and there but wow what a difference. I highly recommend getting tested for food sensitivities.

    Excellent info and loved the presentation. It gave me a LOT of insight into my sudden acne troubles! I was diagnosed with Hashimoto's, and later hypothyroidism approxiamtely 10 years ago. But out-of-the-blue, this 62 year old developed horrible acne all over the face, as was mentioned in the video. I had all types of acne: blackheads, whiteheads, pimples, pustules, cystic acne. They affected my forehead, hairline, cheeks, nose & area around nose, chin, jawline and neck. My PCP chalked it up to stress, and yes, I was having some stress at the time. However, prior to this Godzilla-like acne, I had been going through stress for almost 9 months (not pregnant; LOL!). All during that time, including surgery, which is traumatic, I had very minimal breakouts: a small pimple here & then. Recently, I had lab work and all hormonal levels were normal - EXCEPT for a high TSH. I asked my endo if the acne was related to the increased TSH, and he said it very well could be. He decreased my levothroxine dosage, and low & behold! After 3 months of yucky acne, my face began to clear up within a week's time. SO glad I happened unto this video! It has truly been a blessing. Thanks so very much, Dr. Childs, for helping me to better understand contributing factors to my acne explosion. BRAVO!!! My plans are to take measures about adding nutrional supplements, as well as addressing my gut health.

    Hi there!
    Today I saw someone for my thyroid and she was very knowledgeable and sat down with me for over an hour to deep dive into my symptoms. I came in just wanting my hormones tested, she said she could absolutely test my hormones but mentioned that our hormones change everyday and she didn’t feel like the test would accurately show what was going on. With what I told her she was very confident in already knowing what was wrong and it all pointed to hypothyroidism. She said we would start a very low dose of medicine and take it week by week to see if my issues start to get resolved. This doctor has AMAZING reviews and is very loved. She treated me so kindly and really cared about what I had to say. However, with that being said I am only 26 years old and am in shock that my thyroid is thrown off. I eat very clean and live a healthy lifestyle, but I also know that something isn’t right inside my body. I all of the sudden this year started struggling with cystic acne and I watched this video to get some validation and comfort. I am really nervous to go on medicine especially for my thyroid because I know that it is very serious.
    Any words of encouragement or advise?

      @Sirie7206 Před rokem

      @@EmmaLundy-zf7yt it took a few months after switching thyroid meds. No antibiotics. I believe levothyroxine was giving me “rosacea” because it has lactose. I am sensitive to dairy. I also stopped using moisturizer and Zinc. Zinc was making me break out and making my cystic acne worse. I also found that moisturizer clogged up my pores. Now all I use is face wash/exfoliation and hyaluronic acid serum. My cystic acne is gone and the scaring from the rosacea is improving.

    Thank you for this video, Dr. Childs! I've had Hashimoto's since high school/college age. I'm 41 now. I rarely have a blemish on my skin (maybe a blemish every two months). Two years ago, a red dot appeared on my right temple. Then there were three. It slowly spread to my right cheek. It didn't seem like acne - just red bumps or smooth red and can be dry. For a year this only appeared on the right side of my face. A new dot would pop up and fade away, but the rest remained. After a year and half, it popped up on the left. Just a dot. And now it's all over on both cheeks and down my neck. Sometimes it's very dry... Can you make sense of why it would only appear on the right side and suddenly jump? It seems to fade sometimes and then it reverts again. Does this sound like it's thyroid-related? I've been to several doctors, including three dermatologists, with no answers. They've given me creams to try that don't help. My diet is very clean and has been for the past 6 years, at least. I cut out gluten two weeks ago and haven't had dairy in several months. Rarely have sugar except for fruit. I just had a biopsy and will have the results next week. Thinking about approaching some psychics with this next. Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

      Same here! Started on my right side and a year and a half switched to the left. I visited an endocrinologist for my yearly check-up and discovered that my TSH was increased. I immediately started Levothyroxine 50 mcg, then decreased the dose to 25 mcg but my skin is still acting up. As I heard in the video, at least 2 months are necessary to see any improvement - that’s what my doctor said as well. She diagnosed me with Hypothyroidism - along with other symptoms- fatigue, constant sleepiness, hair-loss etc. You should definitely talk to an endocrinologist!

    This was very informative. I'm a 40 year old female, never had a problem with acne until I put in a hormonal IUD 5 months ago. Within 2 months, I got cystic acne all over my face! I was frantic! A lot of research later, I read that spearmint tea reduces hormonal androgens that can cause hormonal acne in women. I tried it (two heavily steeped cups per day- of peppermint instead though), and it definitely improved my acne drastically within one week. But I recently got a couple more on my cheeks after reducing how much I was drinking down to one cup per day for only two weeks for the past month! I'm going to try cutting out cheese and milk, and take zinc supplements. I would like some tips on whether it's possible to balance my hormones while on a hormonal form of contraception... because apart from not getting pregnant again at my age, I wanted to lighten my period bleeding- which was horrendously heavy. But this cystic acne problem is making me wonder whether I should go back on combination pills!!!
