My cousin tried to get her baby daddy to relinquish his rights but he learned he could still be responsible for child support if she ever tried to get it in the future or if she ever had to apply for welfare so he really wasn't legally able to relinquish his responsibilities.

We need to spend more time educating our children about the law, our bodies being delicate, and consequences for our behaviors. Personally, I don’t know how I would handle my 17 year old daughter being pregnant especially with an adult but I know I wouldn’t have tolerated that. My daughter was approached by an adult male family friend via Snapchat talking disgusting to her. Saying he waited for her age turning 17. I went to court, filed a no contact order, was granted and tried to file charges. Unfortunately the statute says 17 is of consent. We need to make our children more aware on life and the world. So sad. I feel horrible for her family.
Unfortunately, not all cultures view age differences the same way. I grew up with girls getting knocked up in middle school by their 20 something year old boyfriends. It was disgusting, but the parents allowed it.
Most teenagers likely keep things from the parents. I know I did when I was a teenager. And being 17 or any teenager really is only a few years from a 20 something year old. So to say you wouldn’t “tolerate” it is assuming the best circumstance, that your child shares everything with you, which is most likely not the case for most teenagers.
