    Refreshing to see a horse trainer working out in an open field. That's where the real world is.

    What if your horse doesnt reply to shaking the lead rope? My mare is very hard headed and green, i just got her about a month ago and when we go into a place shes not familiar with, she's all over me.

      If shaking the rope doesn't help you keep increasing the pressure until the horse moves. Start with a little wiggle, gradually shake the rope harder, you can wave your arms while shaking the rope to increase pressure, clicking, shaking the rope up and down instead of side to side. Eventually they'll start to understand and become lighter and lighter.

    The advice here really made a lot of sense. Now all I have to do is communicate it to my pushy mare, LOL.

    Thank you! My horse behaves and yields to me in the arena but on the trail or in the field he tries to eat, or his head’s up. Should I just keep shaking/bumping the lead rope at him ? He’ll get it eventually out there?

      Hi Lisa, Are you riding him on the trail and in the field when he's trying to eat grass and hold his head up?

      Lisa if you are asking him from the ground, yes he will eventually backup.

    My horse is great with leading. But as with what youre doing at 11:00, he'll sometimes speed up quick, turn to left and cut me off. It happens so fast im not able to back him up. What should I be doing?

    • @larryfrench8436
      @larryfrench8436  Před rokem

      Bryan, bump and release your horse with your lead rope until he stops and faces you. Let him calm down, he's scared, this is normal. Then ask him to back up.
      You may have to yank on your lead rope really fast and always release it fast.
      I call this interrupting his thought pattern. This will quickly get his attention.
      And always let him calm down until he's back to thinking again.
      You may have to do this a few more times. Sometimes the horse will take off. He may get past you, that's okay.
      After you back him up, start over again.
      It's not always pretty at the start. I've had some tough ones myself.
      Just keep repeating this exercise.
      He will eventually start to come down.
      Please let me know if you have make progress.
      Thanks,
      Larry

    Can I do this with my horse even there is another horse in the field?

    • @larryfrench8436
      @larryfrench8436  Před rokem

      Yes, you sure can.
      Sometimes it may be difficult when the other horse is protective.
      If so, you will want to separate them.
      Are they inseparable?

    I tried to teach my horse to back up by swinging the rope but she just doesn't care about it at all.. I swing it more and more until it is hitting her face, my hand hurts, but she just doesn't care and stands still. No reaction at all. What should I do? How to teach a horse to react to the rope if she doesn't care that I swing it?

      Hi Karolina, Thank you for visiting my channel. I have had several health issues in the past several months. That's the reason I am late responding to your comment and I haven't posted any new videos.
      Thanks to the good Lord Now I feel great.
      Karolina, it's fear. Your horse doesn't have enough courage and confidence to back up. So let's leave the backup alone for a bit and do some disengaging the hindquarters. This will lose him up and stay focused on you instead of the fear.
      Once you feel like he's starting to loosen up. Then go back to the backup.
      Try this for a day or two and then let me know how it's going.
      Thanks again for your comment.
      Larry

      @@larryfrench8436 glad you're ok now. She is already very good with disengaging hindquarters. She moves and crosses the legs even if I only look on her hindend and move my body towards her. She backs up from the pressure of the halter, backs up when I move towards her from the front without any rope or when I touch her chest. She is relaxed when I ask her to back up and she does it calmly. She only stands still with her head lowered when I swing the rope. I even tried combining both signals together ( pushing the chest and swinging the rope so she knows what I expect her to do), but it didn't work either. After few tries she just gets irritated.
