    I think it's also important to note that if you are undergoing the process of finding your colors and styles--YOU CAN DYE YOUR EXISITING CLOTHES!!! Some materials can be easier to dye than others of course, but if you have a lot of light/soft/existing color shades, you can dye them to suit your color palette.
    YES this isn't universal, YES it can depend on what you own. But for those who want some kind of fashionable change but don't want to shell out a lot of $$ on a new colorful wardrobe, consider making these subtle changes. It's a lot easier than people think it is.

    I’m somewhere in the autumn spectrum, I think, and discovering that black didn’t suit me was a huge change in my wardrobe. Now it’s mostly dusty rose colors, beiges, dark denim and dark brown, and those Kelly or khaki greens, as well as a particular shade of yellow that makes my features really pop. It’s so helpful to be able to look at clothes in the store and be like ‘mmn, that’s not in my colors, let’s skip it’ and also I can be like ‘wait, those pants are a warm orange color, that might look fantastic on me if they fit, let’s try them on’ and it does indeed work out.

    Recently discovered I'm a soft summer, after assuming I was dark winter - which didn't really fit but I thought, oh I have dark hair, dramatic essence, theatrical romantic, I HAVE to be able wear dark, rich colours! Was very disappointed at first, but since reorganising my wardrobe to favour soft, subtle colours I'm loving how easy it is to get dressed and how flattering these colours are. It's also fun to work within limitations, eg achieving a vampy TR look with muted colours. I have a bin bag of my fluorescent clothes (like hot pink and acid green, my faves) that I can't bring myself to get rid of, but they are in storage for now.

    This is so relevant to my life right now - I'm a dark winter but i tend to use that (or my kibbe type) more as a guideline to rule things out, than as a list of where to begin. This last week I made a collage of all the colors I like best (pulled from a pinterest board of style goals) to try to see if I could make a real palette out of it. I think of myself as preferring summer colors but when i looked at the palette almost all of the colors were technically on the dark winter spectrum, it just left out whole color families (i hate wearing red or purple), except maybe a French blue, which is technically too grey for me but it's my favorite color. Something i find very valuable inspiration is to look at actors in a similar color season playing different roles, because costume designers are very good at conveying characters through color but in also finding the colors that flatter their actors. For me personally an inspiration is Christina Ricci in Sleepy Hollow, where she's sort of made up to look like a light summer. The brilliant Colleen Atwood uses a lot of soft colors on Ricci but uses a lot of contrast to keep the look harmonious on her, especially dark piping or lapels and white lace near the face.

    What do you do if someone is not in the extreme in any of the spectrums? For example, I thought I was a winter (lighter skin and darker hair, cool toned) but I found out I probably not 100% bright (my eyes have some grey in them, bright colors usually look better on me than pastels and beiges, but the brightest colors still look to harsh), my skin and hair have a bit of warmth in them (like being cool-neutral- I have areas on my skin where I tan and look warmer because of that, even though I mostly look blueish-pinkish, and cool tones look better on me, and my hair have some reddish tones in the sunlight), and because my eyes are on the lighter side while my hair is dark, I wouldn't say light or dark are my main features...

    • @shirin9452
      @shirin9452 Před 10 měsíci +2

      Wait I am struggling too in a very similar way even though our descriptions are different. I am pretty sure that I am cool and my coloration is dark brown eyes and jet black hair. But I’m Indian so my skin is not fair, it is kind of paler than the usual though with slight pinky-red cheeks and paler lips. It’s still not as much contrast as I think winters are supposed to have. Like you I look best in bright colors but can’t do super bright ones like a clear winter. I thought I might be a true winter but sometimes I think that’s still too bright for me. Definitely not dark winter, I look like a vampire with dark lips :/ I’m so confused. Maybe I’m not a winter but a summer? My skin is confusing. At this point am I even cool toned!? I think so but what do I know lol

    Just another of your videos I absolutely love! 🔥I loved the example that many people are autumn and don't like orange, so you suggested some other colors from palette. However, I am suprised that you didn't mentioned bright warm yellow as suggestion for deep autumn. I know, it would be contrast instead of harmony, but think about it - the contrast would be in depth, color would still match the wormth of deep autumn skin. Maybe it's just me, but I love to see warm bright yellow (not neon nor cool shades, but warm) on warm taned skin. :D

    My features are EXTREMELY hard to define. My hair (medium/dark brown) has both ashy and golden tones. I have central heterochromia, so my eyes are dark blue/gray with a dark golden ring around the pupil with a few specks of brown. I’ve also been told by color consultants that my skin/undertone is so neutral that it’s hard to categorize. The only clear thing is that I’m high contrast (dark hair and dark eyes with pale skin). So I totally straddle the line of autumn and winter. Help!!!

    • @felibox785
      @felibox785 Před 10 měsíci +7

      I have similar colouring. If you are truly very close to the neutral line, then you can wear some warm colours as well as cool colours. They will need to be very ashy/soft. You may find that most of the warm colours are too warm and it's just easier to go cool, but colours like soft olive, burgundy and teal might be good. If you are high contrast then you will look better in darker colours. So - dark, soft and muted, cool or very slightly warm. Try antique silver, brass or possibly rose gold jewellery. Hope this helps!

      @@felibox785 Thank you! I wear a lot of black and it tends to look better if it’s slightly faded/muted. I feel overwhelmed by too much brown though. But I LOVE olive green and use it as a neutral sometimes since most lighter neutrals wash me out. This is super helpful!

    • @felibox785
      @felibox785 Před 10 měsíci +5

      @@madmarrr I'm the same, I love faded black, light neutrals (cool or warm) wash me out, and I don't love brown. I think it might be as basic a reason as I already have long brown hair so together it's just a bit too much! In my opinion, the seasonal system (which is essentially some names assigned to certain combinations of positions on the 3 scales of light/dark, warm/cool and soft/bright) ignores that you can be high contrast but also soft & muted. I think its logic is that having high contrast features creates a sort of 'liveliness' to it that is echoed well by brighter colours. But I do not agree with this. If you have truly neutral skin, it's fundamental characteristic is that it is soft and muted, because it's neither one thing nor the other. So the most important thing is to wear colours that are equally muted. So just for reference, I *think* that soft autumn and soft summer are the palettes that sit either side of theoretical exact neutral. But they are both mostly too light for me. I generally wear the darkest colours in soft summer, the darkest and coolest colours in soft autumn (mainly burgundy, olive and teal) as well as ivory and blues/seafoam which match my eyes. As long as you understand where you are on the 3 scales, then you don't need to waste energy trying to find what 'season' you are because you already have the tools to know what suits you.

I also give off a “golden” appearance so I’m told by some! However I’ve been draped in person by House of Colour and I’m a Blue Spring! This is the palette that sits closest to winter in the spring palette. I am apparently neutral-warm in undertone and muted colours make me look dull.... so not at all what I thought I was! I'm a redhead but I'm very sure that I'm true/warm autumn because I have this coppery look that's distinct but muted. But it's still weird to me how eye colors of true autumns are shown as being in the brown or amber range but my eyes are a light greyish turquoise.
    My friend is very clearly bright in her coloration, with dark brown hair and green-brown eyes and light skin, and can pull off the brightest colors, but we haven't managed to figure out whether she's winter or spring. We're leaning towards bright spring but if so, wouldn't other spring subtypes at least look pretty good? It seems she can pull off bright spring fantastically but also looks great in bright winter, not in other spring or winter subtypes so much. It's hard to tell between these two without having good drapes.
    Also finding out whether my mum is light spring or light summer was so difficult. She has a golden overtone but figured out she might be light summer nonetheless.
    Maybe you can make a video on seasons that can easily be confused because they share their main characteristic? Such as light spring/light summer, warm autumn/warm spring, bright winter/bright spring, soft autumn/soft summer, dark autumn/dark winter? I find that usually because one can borrow from the neighbouring season, it can make it harder to tell sometimes, even if the undertone is different with a lot of these. Maybe there are some colors that only one season of these pairs can pull off.

      This is the problem with the 4,12,16,200 seasons color system, it focuses too much on hair and eye color instead of just color draping and looking at the effects color create on the skin.
      Have you actually tried autumn colors? If you look great in them and don't appear grayish, purple or blueish then you are indeed a warm "season" and your eye color doesn't really matter, or at leats shouldn't be considered a decisive factor to find out your season

      @@katitadeb interesting, thank you! Autumn colors do wonders on me. They make blemishes on my skin visually disappear even. On one hand, I find hair color in particular to be helpful to gear you towards some seasons, such as being a redhead meaning you are warm by default. I've heard conflicting information about this but that does seem true to me. Also that being blonde doesn't match with being a winter because the contrast just can't be as stark. Then again, it can also be misleading because if I went by eyecolor/hair alone, I'd probably land on spring. But how the colors actually look is what it's all about. It's hard to find your season on your own without proper drapes and the online tools aren't all that either. I would really like to help my friend find her season but I'm not that good at it (yet, would love to be). So I am definitely open for resources on how to do this at home. My friend knows I'm into color analysis and into Kibbe and she's super into fashion and so she keeps asking me if this or that item would match her season but I can't figure hers out.
      I guess eye- and hair color could serve as clues in some cases but cannot be a replacement for systematic draping.

    I'm Dark Autumn but Im so muted I can't carry off anything bright and look best in rich colours with a lot of depth. Colours like dark olive , forest green , rust, chocolate brown ,maroon/oxblood, plum and deep red. The difficulty with rust is at times an item in rust can be too bright for me .

    I think we should embrace the idea of having a few signature colours instead of feeling limited by these systems. Wear them like a badge of honour. When people see our colours they'll think of us because we wear them that much. I remember once reading a book set on an alien planet where people would have one or two signature colours that had some symbolic meaning behind them and they only wore those colours. It always stuck with me. I'm still working on it and I'm not even 100% sure what season I am - only that my dominant characteristic is light. Seafoam green and stormy grey/blue are both colours I strongly identify with and i know they look great on me. I just need a few more and to figure out my nuetrals. In my opinion all neutrals look bad on me. I hope this doesn't sound preachy. I have an eclectic wardrobe full of lots of colours that don't suit me but I wear them anyway - just in an ideal world I'd have signature colours.

    Do you believe that a dark skinned person (Gabrielle Union, Lupita N’yongo or Naomi Campbell) could be a possible variation in the Summer palette? I am a cool-neutral undertone that always led more gray and thought I was ashy appearing. So I never understood my coloring. My hair is a dark brown (not black). I have redheads in my family…idk if that is a influence? I never truly saw a summer that had a deeper coloring, perhaps that’s more rare?

    • @vermiliongardens
      @vermiliongardens Před 10 měsíci +1

      I think that's completely possible. From your description I would check out soft summer - gray leads me to think soft/muted, soft summer is the darkest of the summers, and dark brown hair is "light" compared to black hair (like you'd expect for a dark skinned winter, perhaps).
      Ultimately it's about what colors look best on you, not your appearance. Look at your wardrobe and pull out the pieces that you feel incredible in/you get compliments on. There's probably a pattern to them that will help you narrow down. Hope that helps :)

      @@vermiliongardens thanks a million !! Definitely any color at the beach sunset. The cool sandy tan colors, muted to moderate ocean sea colors. Black looks harsh and gothic, I’d say I would go for a dark navy blue or plum/dark eggplant color instead of black.

    • @amaranthx3627
      @amaranthx3627 Před 10 měsíci

      Maybe you're neutral? I've seen recommendations before of comparing orange and fuchsia, if fuchsia looks better on you then you might lean more cool, therefore might be a deep winter. If you're still torn, I would just pull the best colours on you from both palettes and play around with them until certain colours stand out as winners.

I have dark brown hair and dark eyes, when I night them they get coppery, hence the autumn type I guess, but those colors make me look old!!
