  • It is TOTALLY normal to hate your colour season at first - there are so many things in the way of embracing colour in 2023, and I can see that being told you must wear pastel pink could turn you off the whole colour analysis endeavour. HOWEVER, there is so much range in each of the 12 colour seasons and you are not limited to the first six colours you see all over the internet.

      Same! I’m a soft autumn and I lean towards warm pastels, closer to the spring palette. My favorites to wear are sage green, teal, sky blue, buttercream yellow, peach, and rose. Colors like mustard, orange, aubergine, and warm green aren’t necessarily bad colors on me but I associate them with being dated and tacky and it’s hard for me to enjoy wearing them

    • @myusikah
      @myusikah Před rokem +11

      I think there are light hues and dark shades that fit into each palette, though. Like, a warm peach can be a light hue that is still true to your palette, even if it is a pastel.
      As an example, I think I'm a dark autumn (but I prioritize more the dark aspect, rather than the warmth), which means I can accommodate the rich, vibrant tones of a dark winter into my palette pretty much as well as I can the rusty, muted tones. As a result, I tend to wear a lot of burgundy, navy blue, mustard yellow, and forest green.
      Any color value can fit into any color season. Whether a particular variant of a color fits into your palette depends on the undertone, saturation, and chroma.

      I was originally typed dark autumn (darn you brown skin) but am actually cool olive undertone and when draped, dark winter is obvious. I love a good deep periwinkle with a bit of gray or a steel blue. I will avoid mid colors with too much white (stonewashed cotton for example) and instead opt for lighter colors with gray added or darker colors with only black in them. Keeps me from looking too much like a villain or goth.

      I'd love a video like that. I'm a dark autumn, but love the soft summer beach look that in no way I can copy paste, it's so different of my best colours. I really like the 'washed out' colours/surfer look, and tend to dislike the deep colours of my season. It is possible (like I have to find 'lighter' blues with more grey hues, which for me is more a denim blue/gray blue) but it's pretty difficult. • @ingridpear1882
      @ingridpear1882 Před 10 měsíci +1

      I think we have a 'concept' of what black is and isn't appropriate for in English influenced western society that French/Continental European realms don't. Like black being very intense, coming on quite strong, aggressive, something of the night ,which is then associated with power suits,dates, evening concerts, but is reserved for shadows rather than worn in broad daylight except for work purposes where aggressive is appropriate. It's also difficult to keep light reflective things from showing up on it, like dust,hair,fuzz. It looks dramatic with lots of beads. I personally like velvet or velour as a softer version of blacks that's still polished. I love navy and grey best as well.

    I can see why as a Light Summer you like being blond. But I think your hair is a little too bleached. Which in turn makes the texture look dry and rough and doesn’t suit your beautiful soft classic face.
    You’ve definitely nailed your clothing style. But I think your hair needs a little work.
    I also wonder if cutting a slightly shorter layer that hits your cheekbone would flatter you more. Right now, the shortest layer hits right below your jawline. It creates width in the bottom half of your face and brings attention to it instead of your beautiful eyes.

    Oh wow! I rarely google people, when I watch YT, unless it’s part of my graduate homework…that keeps me pretty busy! I knew you were a professional, but I didn’t realize you wrote that book! It’s one of my favorites, since the beginning of my color analysis journey and made me feel much better about being Light Spring. I, too, thought I was resigned to a life in pastels. When I found out my palette was also full of light to medium, bright colors, I felt better. I have always been drawn to brights. My skin is bright and fair, so the lightest pastels didn’t feel right. When I tried the brightest Light Spring colors, I found my determined “best colors” were correct…lime and apple, tangerine, aqua, tomato and sunny yellow. I assumed lime and tangerine would look terrible, so I never tried those signature Spring colors…even after my analysis! Within our palettes, I think our individual best colors vary, as we have varying dominant traits. I don’t think I’m “actually a Bright Spring”, as my hair and eyes are light and I’m not high contrast. After reading your book, I saw how to make my palette work for me!
    P.S. I think part of the problem is the abbreviated palettes often found online. I think most color analysis pros give each individual a palette of 4 or more “best colors,” like I received. My abbreviated Light Spring palette looks different from another’s. In reality, I doubt many Springs wear the handful of pastels in “Light Spring” examples as their core wardrobe. I’m sure some do and I bet it looks good on them!

    I'm Dark Autumn but I filtered out any yellows and oranges (except for like, rust and gold jewelry) because I don't like them on myself or even their associations (I believe my roots are Moon, Mushroom and Fire, maybe a bit of Flower).
    But I got really scared when you talked about baby pink for Dark Autumns because I use lighter pinks as my white/cream (so I'm not always wearing super dark colors all the time)😥But I also I think since I based my pinks on the Dark Autumn palette I don't think they are super light (warmer peachy pinks, lighter roses, as well as darker ones) so it's probably alright lol

    On that note, how do you feel about colours outside one’s seasonal palette suiting them more because their essence can pull it off? I’ve been told I can wear brighter pinks (as an ingenue/gamine essence mix) and I love them but don’t feel it entirely suits me either

    This makes so much sense and yet I never took it into consideration when choosing my Style Roots. In fact, I may have swung too far in the other direction and placed too much emphasis on which colours I associated with each Style Root, such as writing off Moon entirely because I knew I didn't want to wear any black. I settled on Earth, Sun, and Fire as my top three (with Flower as a close fourth) but now I'm wondering if my top three should actually be Earth, Sun, and Moon (or maybe even Earth, Moon, and Flower?).

But something I've recently noticed is that during summer, for example, I like to cool down a bit: maybe switch to more muted shades, or reduce the contrast. So, when it's summer I become a light summer

      light blue denim jeans/dungarees with a relaxed fit and maybe rips? pastel coloured chunky knitwear. linen screams earth to me and often comes in light colours. maybe try a more cool toned beige since you’re a summer or you can go for pastels. if you want to honour your other style roots, you can always elevate linen e.g pairing a linen shirt with tailored trousers.
      light grey suede boots are a perfect combination of summer (colour), earth (boots) and your other more polished style roots e.g mushroom (suede).

    This was very helpful! I’m a deep autumn and in general I would say my colour season matches my vibe but I gravitate towards black and my vibe is definitely stone moon and mountain, which shouldn’t conflict too much. I find I’ll buy black, mustard yellow, navy, and maroon tops, but they’ll be crew neck or form fitting and put together. If I had to describe my style I would say it’s timeless, appropriate for most occasions, but not casual or boring and a little bit of a sexy sophistication. Overall these videos have really helped me. I knew what I liked but it’s nice to have it put into words🙂💜

      You guuuurl! I think you just described my style roots. I’m a deep autum as well, I do feel this is my vibe, I’m also a soft classic so I kinda have to look proper. You know what’s been my favorite combo lately? Sleek bun, small hoop earings, graphic T tucked in or tied in a knot, middi skirt with nice clean sneakers. The T’s I’ve found are either cream or a warm black, so I kinda feel it brings it all together. (I have no one else to talk about this in my circle so I’m happy that if you ever read this I’ve shared some of this topic with someone that gets it 😅)

    For light spring with moon style essence: you could use the darkest neutrals for pants, shoes, accessories and jackets, use the "medium" neutrals for shirts and tops and use the actual colors as accents (and maybe use the darker ones of those). We might not have actually dark colors but they feel dark on us.

    This is great, Ellie! I really resisted being a dark winter and I think that the fact I’m an earth/sun dominant person is why. I love mustard yellow and rust orange and it still stings that I was told those colors make me look sick when they’re half my wardrobe. I’m still kind of figuring it out, I’ve eventually said goodbye to the most pumpkin-y and terracotta-y colored things I owned but I really dislike and feel out of place in most of my palette. Obviously it’s great to have black, navy, and white, but I am very jealous of true and soft autumns to say the least. If typing yourself is supposed to make you feel more comfortable wearing color, I’ve kind of had the opposite experience 😢

    • @t-calla
      @t-calla Před 11 měsíci +1

      Hi, I appreciate you sharing your experience. Keep in mind that I've gotten into color seasons, kibble body types/body IDs, etc within the last few months so I'm not the most informed person on the topics. However, I do have a few things I think you should note.
      For starters, as Ellie has expressed, despite black not being in her color season, she continues to have those pieces and wear them. Meaning it may be possible to incorporate the mustard and rust colored pieces you mentioned. Factors like whether they're close to your face, what other items you pair them with, if they're the centerpiece of the outfit, pairing them with similar colors that are in your palette, etc do make a difference.
      Another thing to point out is while the recommendations can say that those kinds of colors can make you look sick, they just might dull you or not make you shine in particular. Sometimes, colors out of your season don't necessarily make you look "bad".
      If you like an article of clothing based on the fit, style, uniqueness, or some other quality but feel like it just wouldn't work because of your color season, have you considered fabric dying? You likely will have to do research on it of course, but it could be a way to use those same items.
      And just as a reminder, at the end of the day, these style systems can serve as guidelines rather than feel like strict rules. Going back to another thing Ellie mentioned, another aspect of style is creating an effect. And as we know, color can absolutely create an effect. This obviously does need to be more strategic, but when you're able to go a bit against these systems, it can appear more edgy, dramatic, give off a more "careless" feel, among others. If you chose to follow your color season more closely, that's fine as well. Just wanted to let you know.
      I hope this provides something different for you to think about, and again, thank you for taking the time to share this.

    • @calliope6623
      @calliope6623 Před 10 měsíci

      Hey, you know, sometimes people are wrong. Even professional color analysts have typed people incorrectly. I've certainly had a lot of folks tell me different versions of "this is what you are" that just didn't resonate with me, and I decided to let their advice go. Honestly, I feel like there is something awry if there is such an incongruence between what feels good to you and what "technically" looks good on you. If you are not seeing what they are seeing, maybe that person actually got your color season wrong.
      But the thing is, even if they got it right, even if your skin does indeed have cool and vibrant undertones, the color analysis thing, like you said, is supposed to be fun and interesting. Not take your joy away. You aren't just a color season, you're a whole person. And on top of that, color theory -the way colors interact with each other, is really not about "these combinations are good and those ones are bad." (I'm a visual artist and have studied color theory). When colors are juxtaposed, they bring out different things in one another. It is a shame to reduce these interactions to a judgement of good and bad. It's also like music theory. If you had to write a song that starts with a particular chord (that chord is you), you could go up the major scale from there, like they do in "doh a deer" and pick out a few other chords in that scale and write a very nice song. But a lot of the most beautiful songs ever written do not follow that logic. They use different kinds of scales. They have dissonant chords. Anyway, wear the dam pumpkin.
