It's January 31, 2021, and once again it's time to celebrate Gorilla Suit day. What a joy to take off our itching facemasks for a few hours. Don Martin has been gone for 20 years, and I'm 51 instead of 15. But episodes like this are as hilarious as ever.
Gary Larson was great, but in my mind Don Martin is still the king. I don't often crack up at things that made me hysterical as an eight-year-old but this one still brings me to tears...
Araaargh!! Gary Larson was the Emperor! Once I start thinking about the Far Side cartoons, I can't stop seeing them in my mind! Hannibal's First Attempt! God's Kitchen! Humpty Dumpty! ("Okay, you guys have had your chance -- the horses want another shot at it" ), Moses as a kid!, Farm animals when there's no-one around, and, of course Washington Crossing the Street! etc. etc.
Thank you so much for making this video. I don't know what reminded me of it but for some reason I had the sudden urge to see it again, and there it was.
I'm 73 and I read Mad Magazine as a kid though as I recall, this work (a true magnum opus) was in a paperback book of Don Martin's works which sadly I threw away many years ago. I've always lived by the wisdom that what could be worse than 1 abominable snowman, 2 abominable snowmen. So relevant to many life situations.
National Gorilla Suit Day was out in Penguin paperback inthe sixties. My best pal at school lent it me and I've beentrying to find it ever since. There were other great Fester and Karbunkle stories in there, Fester goes to the dentist and another where he sees a shrink cos he beleives hes a plate of spaghetti and meatballs. Brilliant stuff.
The GREAT Don Martin. I'm laughing out loud as I'm writing this. Still funny as hell, after all these years. Thanks for getting these out of mothballs.
Watching these makes me sad because as a young boy I had all these books and loved Don Martin in particular. I miss all those great drawings, and the wit was always second-to-none. Don Martin, GOAT.
Actually, National Gorilla Suit Day is January 30th, according to the 1965 Mad Calendar. I remember because my mom's birthday was January 30th, it kind of stuck in my mind. Too bad CZcams doesn't allow images to be posted in comments otherwise I'd post it.
Great stuff! I'm sure I used to have this book. Wasn't there a story with a character called Squinting from The Morning Sun? I love DM's stuff, not often you get someone with such a unique style.
I do not believe that there is anything More Classically DON MARTIN than National Gorilla Suit Day.
Don Martin was a cannonized saint in our house, my dad's nickname for me was " fone
bone".

Seeing this again was like taking a ride in a time machine. Thank you for putting it up.
The Abominable Snowman. What could be worse than The Abominable Snowman?
The Spanish Inquisition.

I've got that book! Bought it in Japan in the last 1970s! I've never been quite sane since :)
I've got that book! It's in tatters now, but still on one of my bookshelves.

Classic Martin!!! I used to have that book.
It's so obvious that the gorilla-suit manufacturers uploaded this video just so they could show more of their lousy ads... :-D
Happy NGS day everyone!
I try to live my life by remembering Don Martin, Gary Larson and Calvin and Hobbs. Keeps me sane (ish)
*GING* *GOING* *RIP* *BAP*

1:25 LOVE Fester's "what now?" look. Then 1:33 "here we go again."
Thank you - I'd forgotten half of it and LOL'd - great childhood memories, and still impressive as an adult - great comedy 😀
His masterpiece! This ranks alongside the Mona Lisa and the Sistine Chapel Ceiling! Only funnier :)
The bulldog in side view 1:15-1:22 looks like Spike or Hector from a Friz Freleng cartoon of the 1950s ("Pappy's Puppy," "Greedy for Tweety," etc).
Like the saying goes; "If you monkey around with gorillas, they'll go ape on you".
Saw many influence from Warner Bros and those old cartoon. Their imaginations are so powerful.
Fester and Carbuncle , my time spent in the Army wasn't wasted in Bahrein 🤣😂🌴🌞
I don't think that anyone else than DM could have devised this.
This looks like don martan
Now I wish there really _was_ a National Gorilla Suit Day. 🦍
There isn't? Bugga!
This aged very well.
Excellent!

Yes, I think that was called The Von Gool papers, maybe in Don Martin Steps Further Out. Get yourself some sunglasses, lol
Brilliant
Oot-Greet! Classic!
Well, it is if you understand Gorilla talk.😄
Only a genius could even come up with the notion of " National gorilla suit day"
Or gorilla disguised as "Don Martin"?
Can you do the rest of Don Martin Bounces Back? I'd really like to see the all of the Fester Bestertester stories.
Truly: both National Gorrilla Suit Day and The Hardest Head in the World still bring me to tears from laughing so hard.
Too bad there's no audio :-(
Jon Meltzer turn on your Radio
Excellent. Has anyone animated Don Martin's stuff? (Sound FX would be tricky!)
They had it on Mad TV for a bit. There's one of the Princess and the frog's legs here somewhere
I agree these national $&@#*”. Days bite the big one right on bro.
Some days ya just can't catch a break...
Any Fester and Carbunkle?
mad special 1974
HAC BLOOD KILL HATE
Somebody rredo this with funny voices.
Naaa, our own internal voices are enough.
Fester and Karbunkle should be at Mount Rushmore 😅😂
Arargh
Can't read it. Too small.
