I was diagnosed with c-diff in 2016. It came out of nowhere. I hadn’t taken any antibiotics or been in a hospital. It made me feel like I was dying. I also had a lot of anxiety as well. Bc of my age a lot of people thought it was all in my head. I went to the ER a couple times and they just sent me home with Xanax. I was also vomiting too which isn’t usually associated with c-diff. Took me almost 3 months of pestering doctors to figure out what was wrong. It was getting to the point we’re they thought it was in my head or had cancer. I was finally given 10 days of Flagyl and felt pretty good. I still have pretty bad stomach problems though. Just glad to be alive.

@@arinamhamad5954 as the video explains, you can see that while the hospitals are the typical site, it's apparent that you can probably catch it from restaurant and other public restrooms, which have lower standards for cleaning protocols, not to mention relying on individuals to wash their hands thoroughly. heck, they could even contract it from dating someone. in addition a weak immune system and other health factors could make your body more vulnerable to not just contracting it but not being able to fight it as an imbalance in your digestive tract.
I'm going through this right now. Which is why I'm here. I'm waiting for my results to come back for the test. But I was on abx for a period of time prior to my current symptoms. I feel like I'm dying, I can't eat and I'm vomiting a bunch. No one has answers and I'm so tired of being on promethazine.

I work at a hospital, the infection clinic to be exact, and we have a lot of patients with C. Diff from having atibiotics during a long period of time. If you, or someone you know have this here's a few tips: Always be careful with hygine, wash your hands with soap and water properly and use hand sanitizer, after you've visit the bathroom of before preppin food/eating. When using the toilet always close the toilet lid when flushing to keep the amount of spores down.
Alcohol and normal cleaning products will not kill the spores but bleach will. We alwsys clean our rooms (C. Diff rooms) with 1. Normal all-around cleaning products. 2. Bleach. 3. Alcohol. And a patient with C.Diff is never aloud to go outside their room, visning the day room or visiting the patinent kitchen. They're also in a 1 person room and are not aloud to share room. Very good post, but may I add that alcohol based hand sanitizer is not effective against C. diff.
@@monicaperez2843 Exactly, soap and warm water is used and is more effective, and hand sanitizer is used after cleaning your hands with soap. Even though hand sanitizer is not effective against C. Diff it is still a part of our hygine routine and it never hurts using it since it is good against other viruses/bacteria. We always clean our hands with soap and hot water and then hand sanitizer before and after each patient visit. :)
I am a certified CNA and I recently got a job at a assisted living facility (elmcroft of Sherwood) who typically hire RA’s who aren’t familiar with how dangerous it is for patients and staff alike to come into contact with c-diff. We had a resident who had it and the rooms did not supply us with soap or paper towels and the trash had been filled up entirely in a box (for a good week) I brought this to my supervisors attention who told me that there was a hand sanitizing station across the hall I could use and use my elbow to get out of the room. She also told me they are not equipped to deal with this sort of medical disease - despite this being her 2nd time having the condition within one month. Needless to say I bumped into her later and told her that in every facility I’ve been in there is always soap and paper towels that protects the workers and the resident. She later gave me paper towels for outside the room and I snagged soap from the janitors closet. To downplay this type of issue in the time we’re in I felt compelled to call state of it wasn’t resolved. Thankyou for the VIDEO!!!!!
@@josefinkrantz5915 also i would think if in a public restroom and their is no soap nor working dryer or paper towels but gel that it's better than nothing after using the bathroom or even before eating out a food place.
What sucks is when your assigned patient is in a regular shared room and someone pops in and says "heyyyyy we're moving your patient to isolation for C. Diff." This was extremely difficult and anxiety inducing for the patient. I was a new CNA student and luckily we had been trained on PPE for this situation.
Diarrhea??? Um kind of an understatement. I came down with it after a THR four years ago. It was so sudden, so extreme and I became so ill within hours, that I was Septic….developed Renal failure. One drug was used and my husband was told if it did not work, there was nothing that could be done. Luckily it did work and I was allowed to go home with medication. However, 1 week later I was back with an even worse case. I was put in isolation, which severely depressed me. I was also unable to eat, so along with constant diarrhea, I lost about 80 lbs….within 1 week. Drastic.
When I was discharged again, I was terrified of it coming back. After about 7 months from my first diagnosis, I was able to start feeling ‘normal’. I will never forget those life changing months.

May I ask what it was treated with. I have had c diff 3x now. I've tried metronidazole, vancomycin and now taking fidaxomicine. A slightly more expensive oral suspension solution. I'm on the 9th day now. Should've made a difference but I've ended up with bad diarrhea. Lost a lot of weight, Weighed 31kg.. have heart failure. History of auto immune disease and undiagnosed gut issues for over 15 years. Confused as to how to move forward as fmt is not available for people who have had chemo in the last 5 years here in the UK

I was allmost declared dead when I got it 2 years ago and I beet they odds and I servied through it it took 7 days in hospital but I am good for now

yes well it is very exhausting when having to use the toilet while having c.diff. it took me quite some time to just look at my toilet without disgust and worry and not be all tmi but oww does the rectum hurt after bit while having c.diff diarreah that adds to the fatigue physically and mentally. the first day i had symptoms in hours omg so bad like i was so weak from dehydration pain and emptying my abdomen when like i had an empty stomach not knowing it was c.diff then like where is all this shit coming from.

Went 10 days of agonizing pain, inability to eat properly, and extreme dehydration, then was finally diagnosed with c diff. Having to poop out pue stomach acid is hell, and is still happening.

The smell. Don't forget about the smell. It is horrid and unique to c-diff.
Oh yes, the smell! It's a sickly sweet smell which has disappeared completely after my 2nd day of vancomycin, so I hope it is working. I want this gone and to never come back! Also sorry to sound gross, but I have had passed copious amounts of mucus, like the amount of the whites from 2 extra large eggs.
its a lot in hospitals. multiplied by anti biotic, operations, wounds, cause leaky gut and acnea, pimples, green loose stool. some strain die with oxygen but some are resistant. resistant to heat n cooking. zinc, vit d3 helps. fibers, exercise helps fight.
I was finally diagnosed with c diff today after a week of being super sick. I'm so happy to start antibiotics, I literally thought I was going to die. I couldn't keep any food down at all and the stomach pain and diarrhea is excruciating!!
Update: a week later I'm still sick with c diff just not as severe. I'm not throwing up anymore and the pain is alot less. But the diarrhea came back and it still has that gross smell. I was on flagyl for 5 days but they took me off because it caused elevated liver enzymes. I'm on day 3 of vancomycin now. I felt good yesterday but today the diarrhea started again. However I've started eating solid foods again and I had in n out today.. so I don't know if I'm starting to get worse again or if my stomach is just too sensitive for fast food like in n out lol. Will keep whoever comes across this comment updated.
Update: about a month later after being diagnosed with c diff. I tested negative for the c diff toxins but my stomach is Still very sensitive and I feel very fatigued. I think my immune system is very weak right now. I'm not in severe pain anymore but my stomach is upset most of the day and I'm having ibs symptoms. I hope my stomach gets back to normal soon. 😕
I got diagnosed with this today. Been on antibiotics and feeling much better. Hopefully it doesn’t come back! I’m 33 and pretty healthy.

@@sabrinaoliveiraaa It came back 2 more times, much worse every time. My doctor finally figured out the proper dose of Vancomycin. First round was Metronidazole which helped for maybe 2 weeks before it returned. 2nd was liquid Vancomycin which didn’t do much the entire treatment. They finally did a month of pill form Vancomycin which finally kicked it. Probably one of the worst conditions someone can get. So glad it’s over!

I had diarrhoeas for 3 weeks straight after taking antibiotics to treat my tonsils and I’ve been on a specific diet with some probiotics and a pill for 15 days straight. It stopped and the doctor told me to start eating normally again and I have diarrhoeas again. It didn’t go away and I’m so san. I’m 24 years old, I was 74 kg and now I am 68 and I feel tired everyday even after sleeping 8-10 hours per night. I’m so sick of it I want it to just end.. I wish anyone that got diagnosed, get well soon. Antibiotics were always a nightmare to me but this time it went too far
Try Fecal transplant fmt ..
Also take probiotic after ab course .. and boost immune system as best you can with herbs like vit d Magnesium.. chlorella etc

been in a bad uc flare up since March 2020, now its January 2021and just got diagnosed w c-diff. praying this new antibiotic works for me!!! also beginning Intyvio, if anyones on that infusion please let me know how it works for you.

@@Kop_in_the_Sky I am happy I didn't start intyvio a while ago because it would've interfered with my infection so bad.
I was actually in the hospital for a month after posting that because my cdiff infection was about to make me have my colon removed..thankfully I was able to get rid of the infection without surgery.
cdiff spores can live in the body months after your infection is gone, so staying away from raw foods/fish is key. if your stools are ever loose always get a cdiff test.
I have been having a uc flare a few months again (now June 2022) and I was on prednisone for a long time which appeared to make my condition even worse... I notice I feel way better when I take the natural route nowadays. I have found keto diet (whole food eating) no gluten and mesalamine/hydrocortisone suppositories help treat my condition. oral apriso and tons of water. keeping the circadian rhythm on track with healthy sleep and getting sunlight is the healthiest medicine in my opinion. and magnesium. hope this helps, I hope you feel better soon!
@@darkshaw4687 I highly recommend getting a cdiff test if you have loose stools. pain is the body's way of saying something is wrong, so you could definitely have a food allergy of some sort, whether it be gluten or too much fiber. I have a wheat sensitivity which I found out in my last blood panel so im sticking to keto diet which overall helps me feel so much better especially with my ongoing uc. real food is the best medicine. I pray youre feeling better!
I just got out of hospital over Christmas with a cdiff infection and I have ulcerative colitis already so it was awful and I’m only 19
I worked at the hospice and seen patients who got C-diff from the hospitals.
My mom just got C-diff when she went to hospital bathroom, she was getting Chemo

@@brotherblitzwing those relapses.are though, are you on 2nd? I would definitely keep on top of meds, each time you get it again it increases the chance of having it again after that. Once you've hit 4 times it gets alot harder to stop

I couldn't walk because c diff took away potassium. ICU for a couple days, then hospital for a couple. Private room with biohazard warnings on door.
When you take antibiotics, eat plenty of pro biotics to keep the healthy bacteria well fed. I believe that in some Euro countries, Doctors even prescribe live yoghurt along with any antibiotic..
I had norovirus and almost died, after having kidney surgeries over 3 months for kidney stones, came home on Christmas, Boxing Day readmitted because of c.diff, I'm 13, have a neurological condition like MS since I was 9 and am immune compromised , do you think I'll get it again?
You must take precautions such as minimizing the use of antibiotics, using chlorine based cleaners in the home, especially in the bathroom and not relying on alcohol based hand sanitizers (wash hands with soap and water).

How likely is this to be passed to family members in a home setting if there is no incontinence and hand hygiene is very good? Does the entire house need to be decontaminated? How many months does this survive on surfaces? I have read everything from 70 days, to years
Short answer. All family members and sick member must Wash their hands before eating, before and after using the bathroom, wash your silver utensils with boiling water just to prevent any spore. If you have babies or elderly people living at home, then you may want to decontaminate the common surfaces. Usually a good cleaning and then opening the windows to get the Sun UV light enter the house will be enough!
It is very likely! Although you might want to know the factors so you may make your own conclusions. The spores (infective tho not replication form) can stay for several months on contaminated surfaces such as restrooms, kitchen... you name it. So for this infection to happen, it depends on how much spores you take in, it must be a reasonable number (when patient is under antibiotics this amount of spores is significative less, because the antibiotic patient is more susceptible due the lack of good bacteria to defend us from the bad bacteria). If the relative member already suffer from colitis, he has a pre dispose condition, because what usually happens in our body when an strange bacteria goes into our intestines, our natural biota defend us, if that wasn't enough, then our inmune system. So, if the relative also is immune compromised it'll be much likely. Also if you don't have non of this factors but spend too much time and very close with the sick individual you might already get the bacteria in your hands and may already ingested it while eating or touching your mouth.
Usually, family members already have the bacteria in their GI but they won't show any symptoms because all the defense mechanism are working fine.
Remember all clostridium are naturally found in soil and dust, so they are basically everywhere. Clostridium difficile is not the exception.
Your health care providers are the best people to speak to about reducing the risk of Clostridium difficile infection in the home. hubbas girl it's likely I was just treated for this at the hospital for taking clydimaicyn,the disease is unresponsive to hand sanitizer,it's very contagious, use bleach it's the only thing that kills it,it's worth it cause id rather go thru some kind of midevil torture than this😣
C. diff survives for up to 5 months on surfaces.

Eat Greek yogurt every day. It’s good bacteria. I had a 10 day series of Vancomycin while eating Greek yogurt. It is gone & has been for awhile. Horrible infection when it was active & hope to never go through it again.
flagyl is considered a harsh medication i found that out after well i couldn't deal with flagyl i held on for like 3 weeks but just barely in fact the symptoms i was having with that med my mom had the info on looked at it i didn't have it as i am a hypochondriac but i had not only no appetite,but bad taste in mouth, dizziness, and no appetite and didn't even feel thirsty so i had force liquids down my throat so i was really weak and i had constant crying bouts in which i was paranoid and clingy and even had suicidal thoughts. come to find out those some adverse reactions so back to er was for me. the doctor ended up prescribing vancomycin for rest of my treatment. got my first dose at er. 2 days into the week long treatment of it had left i was feeling almost myself better. i couldn't even tell if i had any side effects which i also had my mom hold info on so she would ask me each call how feeling emotionally and physically. to make sure not the medicine. it was an easier med to take too the pill was capsule instead of big ass tablet. going on 3 year ago when i got sick with c.diff but like remember it like was yesterday and not something am fond of obviously. doctor told me my case was mild yet i felt like utter shit and like i was gonna die of course that could also been fact i also had a very bad case of bronchitis that i ended up needing be on oxygen therapy in the hosptial for 4 days. i couldn't handle the breathing treatments due to heart condition and so even when sent home i had to deal with feeling of like brick on my chest wasn't painful but i was wheezing and took lot of effort to breath and the cough i had to take tessalon perls for that.
@@doeidahousa3041 i love yogurt but not good for the irritable bowel i have from having c.diff also makes my abdomen hurt because i have painful bladder syndrome(IC) yogurt and acidic foods/drinks can cause the inflammation to pain. i barely drink juice now esp orange juice that once in while treat and not in high amount at time. so i have to every other month have been buying a daily probiotic capsule supplement it's 20 dollars at walmart for 50 capsules. yogurt does have good bacteria the gut thrives on.
Flagyl sucks and it didn’t work for me. Vancomycin made me feel better overnight!
Anyone know what is Womezon Remedy about? I hear a lot of people fix their bacterial vaginosis issue inherently with this bacterial vaginosis remedy.

What to do about it? What not to eat? Is it possible to kill the bacteria by avoiding sugar, alcohol n' stuff? What about fruit sugar? Would appreciate if someone would reply. (Maybe also someone who was suffering from this.)

@@samratchatterjee8568 after the c-diff and a month of antibiotics and then covid I now have ibs and am on the low fodmap diet. My gut bio is an absolute mess. Also caused depression that I’m on meds for as well but honestly it isn’t horrible, cold always be worse

Hi, I use Premium Amazing Herbs/Black Seed 100% Cold-Pressed Black Cumin Oil, sold at a GMC or Vitamin Shoppe or even online. Just follow the dosage on bottle, I saw results with the first dose in a couple of hours. It did take months for my healthy gut bacteria to rebuild, but you have to change diet and eat fresh garlic alot and ginger root, fresh fruits and vegetables, also lots of probiotic yogurt or supplements, Garden of Life/Primal Defense probiotics is a good supplement I use. But Google things to build healthy gut bacteria and that will help you with resources to get rid of Cdiff. I hope this help, be patient because it does take awhile to get back somewhat normal after having Cdiff. I learned the natural products help better than those expensive medications/antibiotics the doctors gave me that wasn't really helping. Take care!

Lol C Diff...every nurse's worst nightmare
or everyone who has had it myself included for possible re infections i couldn't even leave my er hospital room any staff that entered not only had to wash no sanitzer allowed but had to don plastic disposable gowns each time they entered in addition to gloves and mask and i had have a bedside commode. not sure what your lol is for. c.diff really isn't anything to joke about it's a nightmare for all involved.
I fail to see the humor in this.
Has anyone actually gotten over it? I’ve been dealing with this crap now for like six months with many rounds of treatments and I can’t get rid of it. I don’t live or work anywhere near hospital I honestly don’t know how I even contracted it. I wash my hands so much that they literally are cracking and I just got tested again and still came up positive. I’m trying to eat better but I’m getting to the point where I just want to give up, because there’s just no winning with this. I can’t give up though I just had a baby and she’s almost a year old and I need to be around for her. I’m in constant fear of her contracting it and that’s why I take all these precautions. But I’m starting to think that these antibiotics don’t work because I’ve taken them as prescribed the last couple times and there was no relief and symptoms. There was no relief and bathroom breaks. Nothing. I’m still working with doctors and they are trying to be very helpful but unfortunately I have a lot of people who rely on me and I don’t really have the time for this. I’m also only 28 years old, but one thing I can say is c-diff Will age you and add so much stress to your life. I have lost over 50 pounds without trying. I don’t want to eat anymore because every single time I eat anything I’m in the bathroom for hours because I just constantly have to go to the bathroom. Even when I don’t eat anything the whole day or for a few days I still will have to go to the bathroom up to 10 times a day. The only stories I’ve seen is people just suffering from it and it seems like nobody can beat it so honestly has anybody successfully gotten over this? Then what precautions can I take to make this never be a thing again?

I can’t believe it’s been a year since I had it. It feels like yesterday, and I feel like I’m still living with the effects of it.
I was in so much pain. I don’t cry in pain, I breathe through my teeth, but I was sobbing, nothing could help. My insides were literally melting, they told me. I have adhd, which makes it impossible to not notice things. It’s about impossible for me to get tunnel vision. Even when I’m distressed I can’t help but notice random details. But this pain was so bad, I couldn’t see anything else. I didn’t notice or hear or feel or smell anything other than the acidic, eroding pain. It terrified me. They gave me opioids and they didn’t work. I realize I’m lucky to be alive today. I’m lucky I have seemingly no long term effects from it.
