    Love mine. Had it for 15 years, never a single hiccup. Been neglected at times, rarely cleaned, and always shoots accurately. Worth the money. And 15 years later, I bought a second one, just because. This is a great pistol.

    Another great video!
    I owned a P30L for several years and used it during several instructor's courses I took during that time period. I really loved that pistol and its ergonomics were, for me, second to none. If it had been chambered in 9x19 I'd still own it, but it and most of my other handguns from back then were in .40 S&W.

    I shot a P30 at the range today, I was really impressed as it made me look like a better shot than I am, great feeling overall and the trigger wasn't nearly as bad as some folks were making it out to be. I bought the V3 with night sights, will pick up a P30 L if I happen to see one down the road. Anyway, great video, thanks for doing what you do!

    Hey Mr. Guns and gear. The p30 is the very first pistol I've ever owned and it's my edc. I've put 1000's of rounds through mine and the only thing that has broken is the recoil spring. I kinked somehow and the gun still functioned even after the spring broke! As to the trigger I've replaced the hammer spring with hk's 10 lb. spring, swapped out the sear spring for the nickel plated version and replaced the firing pin block spring and the trigger spring with hk's light versions. These mods were relatively inexpensive and I've put about 500 rounds through it since with no malfunctions or light strikes. The trigger is smoother and easier to pull. This helps since I'm not as strong as I used to be and am developing arthritis. Keep up the good work.

    Picked one up recently at HK's lowered price for the P30 - about $610. It's one of the more recently manufactured P30's and HK put some obvious effort into smoothing out the DA trigger pull. I was so pleasantly surprised! The new P30 triggers are much nicer than they used to be. My HK45 that I bought in 2007 has the 'first gen' (thats how I describe it) DA trigger and is still pretty awful even though I love the gun. The P30 is my perfect carry gun.

    When I tested and bought my P30L in .40 S&W, I thought the standard length was very "flippy" when firing. But found the extra forward weight from the long slide version, keeps the recoil very manageable.

    I bought my standard P30 V3 in 2010. I liked it so well in 2011 I bought a P30L V3. I have both of mine setup exactly as you do with the Trijicon HDs in yellow. After 7 years plus and too many rounds to count, without question they are still my favorite pistols. Only malfunction I ever have had was when I wore out the recoil spring on the standard P30.

    Have the SK model P30 and he's got a valid point. The P series just glows of a quality that few other guns have. There isn't a cheap looking shortcut on it. It's also insanely comfortable for a "sub compact" which Btw isn't a whole lot smaller than a G19. It's a great size of the Shield or the 43 is too small but a MPc or G19 is too big.
    Hammer guns for appendix carry are a really good idea as well.

  • @brentg5909
    @brentg5909 Před 7 lety +11

    I had been interested in the HK P30 pistols for a several years, but was content with my Glocks and didn't feel like paying twice Glock's cost for one HK pistol. A few months ago, I finally decided to spend the money and bought a brand new P30L V3 (DA/SA) 9mm just like the one in this review, except that mine has the factory Meprolight night sights. After my first range outing, I was highly impressed and kicking myself for not trying this pistol sooner. I am so effortlessly accurate and fast with this pistol. In particular, the only defensive-style 9mm pistol I've ever shot as accurately is another HK, a P7M8 that I owned over 20 years ago and sold like an idiot. The very next day after my P30L range session, I bought a P30 9mm to give my P30L a friend. I've since sold all my Glocks, except for my G43. I'd probably sell the G43 too if HK made a pistol of comparable size, weight, and thinness. I have no problem with DA/SA pistols and have carried them in the past (I also own a CZ P-09). I tried out the LEM trigger in the store, but felt that if I was going to go that route, I'd be better off with a standard striker-fired pistol and trigger system. In a nutshell, I'm extremely happy with the HK P30 series and it's my top choice in a full-size 9mm pistol. I'll probably buy a couple more just because.

      Just to touch on your comparison of the lem to a striker, theres no second strike capability with striker fired 😉 can still fire the lem in double action if you ever need to give that dud a second chance at the pewpew life.

  • @Disirregardless
    @Disirregardless Před 7 lety +41

    Worth mentioning the current HK rebate on the full size P30 and Vp series! 4 free mags direct from HK. Its basically like getting $200 off the pistol. Also, finding used P30s on the market, they can be had around $700 all day, and given the reliability and durability of the pistols, they're almost always a good bet. Plenty of VERY lightly used P30's hit the market when the VP9 came out. The trigger isn't bad, its just different; its smooooooth, once it breaks in, and is actually easier to shoot well (IMHO) than the stiffer, snappier striker triggers. YMMV of course. Great pistol, carry one daily.

    • @Disirregardless
      @Disirregardless Před 7 lety

      That seems to be very shooter dependant. Its never bothered me (I don't even notice it while shooting the gun whatsoever), but I understand that its nearly a deal-breaker for some shooters. My understanding is its relatively easily dealt with by using some sandpaper to smooth it out.

      William Sack I got one used in perfect condition for $400 like 2 months ago. They had 3 to chose from. I was shopping for a vp9 but couldn't pass up the p30. Then went back the next day for the vp9. I actually prefer the p30. It feels more sturdy and solid but that's probably in my head. I changed the hammer spring to be a little lighter and the trigger is great.

    • @Disirregardless
      @Disirregardless Před 7 lety +1

      No, they're definitely more sturdy, no question. Mike even comments on it in this video. Handling them side by side theres no comparison. I like my VP9 just fine, but my p30L is my girl

    • @DB.KOOPER
      @DB.KOOPER Před 7 lety +1

      You're right, the trigger's not "bad", it's broken-by-design. Leave it to HK to charge a premium for the dumpster-fire that is LEM and the wildly mediocre P30.

    @sandman1242 Před 2 lety

    I installed a short reset trigger and springs kit on the P30, its a nice upgrade. comparable to the SIG trigger and reset, it has a very nice audible click and a very short reset. P30 will double tap on command very easy. The kit made a great pistol even better.

    I have the p30 and like the review said it is super reliable. I have had mine for a few years now and have fed it a few thousand rounds and I have had zero issues. I was looking at buying a Glock 19 but once I held the HK p30 there is just no comparison. id did upgrade the to the LEM conversion kit. before I made the conversion the firearm shot great but after I made the conversion holy crap the difference is night and day. the double action travel is so much lighter then after you break trigger the reset went from almost an eighth of an inch to 1 millimeter, and you are now in single action for the rest of the mag. the next 14 rounds its 1 millimeter to break trigger and 1 millimeter to reset trigger. I love this gun.

  • @chrisjohnson5987

    Just got my HK P30 V1 LEM in today and it still holds up after all of the years. $686 with 3 x 17 round mags. The V1 LEM is so good but I'll be sending it off with the 4.1 LEM kit and get Lazy Wolf to do a full trigger job to enhance the take up and reset even more. I'll replace the stock polymer trigger with the grayguns flat trigger which should tighten things up a bit for my liking but over all this gun is phenomenal out of the box. Feels better than any pistol I tried and I got this over the P226 Elite for overall bang for buck.

The light weight makes it idea for carrying around and delivers rounds on target with little recoiled effects. My husband calls it a light weight lasers I can put all 15 in a 8 inch steel circle. I quite like them, wouldn't trade 'em for anything. One of the pistols I'm banking on for ensuring I survive the upcoming apocalypse.

    First off, this video pushed me over the edge in deciding to purchase this pistol. I’m so glad I did.
    I picked up a standard size P30 V3 w/ 3 mags and night sites for $740. It’s replacing my Walther P99c (which had recently replaced my PPS M2), because Walther discontinued them, they’ve since doubled in value. Anyway, the P30 does indeed have excellent ergonomics, to the point where they mitigate the heavier DA trigger. I had no problem getting 2” slow-fire offhand groups with this @ 10yds with the DA shot included.

    Just FYI, you don't need to remove the slide release completely to disassemble the gun. just pull it out until you see the red paint and the slide should pop right out. Also in regards to the trigger, it's been a while since the gun came out but some manufacturers are finally starting to make drop in parts for it. Lazy Wolf guns is in the process of making a flat trigger, and Lobos industries is making a drop in part which is supposed to reduce the reset.

A black LEM with yellow HD's on them and recently picked up the grey P30S which I put orange HD's on. It is very obvious when taking the P30 apart, cleaning,handling and shooting how much of a quality firearm it really is when compared to so many other firearms. The machining on the slide is world class. I love the frame texture too. I really want a P30L and this video did not help lol. I have about 2k rounds thru my pair of P30's without a single issue. BTW I think you would really like the grey. Mine was only $720. They are out there if you look around. I believe Buds and Cross Creek still have the Grey. Thx

    The preferred handgun of John Wick, good enough for anyone else. Movie references aside, I've always found HK to produce quality DA/ SA hammer fired guns , but I never really cared for the polymer frame, especially at the price point HK typically sells for. Thank you for confirming that the P30 series continues the USP tradition of integrating the decocker into the frame mounted safety (had somebody start a FB argument trying to convince me I had no idea what I was talking about...).

    This has been a great week to purchase a Hecklor & Koch. With in the last week I bought a lightly used VP9 with 4 mags for $450, NIB VP40 Tactical with 3 mags for $590 out the door, & a NIB P30L V3 .40 for $622.25 out the door. I couldn't believe it. Great video as usual.

    My Man, I'm late to the party but this is an awesome review. I'm a HK/Beretta fanboy but I have more weapons made by other manufactures just because if I like it I'm getting it if I can. The HK P30L is my favorite poly handgun. I'm not very trigger sensitive so I like DA/SA, striker, and LEM triggers. "P.S. Thx for your Beretta 92 G conversion video".

    I’ve been shooting HKs for as long as I’ve been shooting pistols. Heck, my first was a USP 45 compact. Then came the HK45 which later got an LEM and then came a VP9. Ive had P30L with the LEM now for about 8 months and haven’t been able to shoot it very much but I’ve had more issues with it than any other pistol I’ve owned. Hell, even my Kimber was more cooperative. When I first fired it, it was barely limping the rounds out and had several stovepipes and failures to extract. Thought it might just be a tough new spring and light 115gr target loads so I started firing some warmer 124gr loads. No more stove pipes or failures to extract but it’s still having issues not locking the slide back on an empty mag. I’m trying desperately to love this thing but dammit it’s not making it easy. At least I’ll be amazing at failure drills by the time this thing decides to break in.

  • @Willis2515
    @Willis2515 Před 7 lety +1

    it was my understanding you are not supposed to remove the slide lock lever for takedown. I'm 99% positive the one on mine is captive, I'll double check when I get home. My personal favorite HK handgun.

    I own the P30LS and P30sk both in V3 (considering gray guns lem mod tho after the colon noir video...) the trigger runs fantastic when im training and i often outshoot people with superior reset like SIG SRT including my own. At 100ft i double tapped my SK very short groupings. Crazy accurate but doesn't surprise me after owning a P2000 .40 LEM and HK USP 45 and operating the MK23. Anyway I can't recommend it enough, i even outshoot the VP9 striker version of this gun. Against a guy of basically equal skill, and a few match 1911s but didn't know their skill level, two were cops lol. Anyway, i have injuries sustained overseas but a ton of firearms training esp the pistol now, but im merely okay. Just beat a few regulars at a range i go to lol.

    The ergonomics on the P30 are second to none... I have mine set up just like yours. I actually prefer the ergos on the P30 over my VP9... And I absolutely 100% agree with the D/A trigger and "break-in". I have a P30S V3, and it was stagey and stiff when I first got it. After a lot of dry fire (10k to 15k DA pulls probably) and probably close to 3 or 4 thousand live rounds through it, it is so much better in DA. Now, I just need to get that many rounds through my new carry gun (HK P2000 V3), so it's DA trigger gets smoothed out too, because while it's no longer stagey, it's still stiff like the P30 was originally.

  • @dannymcbee4149

    I feel the same as you about the build quality of the P30 compared the VP9.
    Nothing against the VP9, but the P30 definitely seems higher quality when you handle them side by side.
    There are a few points on most of the VP9s I've handled that actually felt fairly cheap (Not fragile, just not up to what I expect from H&K).
