  • National Association for the Blind - India, founded in 1952 and is the oldest non-profit organization in India that helps the visually impaired. It is estimated that more than half of the world's blind population (51%) lives in India. NAB has 8 core departments:
    1) Advocacy - Ensures that visually impaired are treated fair, and keeps all the visually impaired members about the changes in policies that could affect the rights and privileges granted by the government
    2) Client Service - Administrative office ensures a smooth on-boarding of any new member and guides them to the appropriate department that meets specific needs.
    3) Education - provides education from nursery to college level
    4) Old age home - Assisted living for visually impaired senior citizens
    5) Rehabilitation - Helps new visually impaired members with a rehab course to help adjust (psychologically and physically) to the impairment
    6) Prevention of Blindness- provides free eye check up, free glasses, and free eye surgeries to citizens who are living in poverty.
    7) Employment - helps visually impaired members gain employment
    8) Finance raising committee- Helps raise funds for all other 7 departments.
