A strange cross between a tug , pilot , fishing vessels ,I love it.
Great video John! Thank you for listening and converting the length and beam to feet and inches for us seasoned Americans. It means a lot!
My pleasure :-) Thanks for watching!
If my wife and I ordered it we would delete the guest cabins and get one massive open craft. We lived on a 36f motor yacht that we did exactly that to. What a wonderful experience for 5 1/2 years.
Absolutely for Me
One major deficit of the yacht is the range compared to similar trawlers. Anyone looking for a trawler to travel the world will find the range to be severely lacking.
Yeah, she's pushing to much water.
And the price
I agree, really lacking in range.
Going from Santa Barbara to Hawaii. You'd be swimming the last seven hundred miles and that doesn't even include a 10% reserve.
She's a coastal cruiser, not a global expedition yacht. Her range for coastal cruising is superb and more than enough to work her way from Labrador to Alaska or the Great Lakes loop.
What? Ever, you can change the range with larger fuel talks or more efficiant engines. HOWEVER what are the Surfing Capabilities of this hull? CAN YOU IMPROVE SPEED AND FUEL EFFICIENCY USING THE DEEP BLUE WAVES? SEEMS LIKE THAT MORE INPORTANT,. SALTY ARMY OUT, GET BENT
Hull. My home town. Where i was born and lived till i was 21. I can safely say i was never happier than when living those years. I can remember, as a youngster all the trawlers that used to come and go...hundreds of them. They are all gone now and it's so very sad they are. The city has faded very much so since i left in 1982. Nice trawler yacht.
Thanks for watching 🙌 I’m hoping to visit Hull soon 👍
@@YachtBuoy Youll see it through very different eyes to me. It was a great place back then.
Beautiful ship. I love the sturdy look.
Me too!
The Berings are built in Turkey twice the boat for half the price
And twice the range or more.
Finally got a chance to watch this video. Awesome! I've been looking forward to a Sea Ranger review for some time. It's a fabulous trawler, I particularly like the traditional robust-looking utilitarian interior and rugged structure. 😁
🙌
Super 🙌
What a stunning looking yacht. And really pleased to see it built in the UK 👏👏👏
🙌🇬🇧
We can build 👌
I really do like the look and feel of this boat. But I wish it had a longer range. 😊
This is a great boat. But 3 million pounds? Whoah!
For that money I would look at a Nordhavn.
@@karipintakivi9153 Yes. More commercial security in a large boat builder too.
Nice boat. Look forward to a full walk through.
Me too 🙌
For us trawler type fans, footage of the engine room and outfit is a must. The rest is very seaworthy at first look.
When MMS built the vessel, they wanted it to be used as a commercial survey boat within their own fleet if required, hence its look and fit out.
I am filming aboard this boat tomorrow so will def get some engine room footage 🙂
Alô from Portugal.
I always see, and like your videos.
Keep going.
Thanks 🙌👍
This is a beautiful little ship. Clearly a capable and fully functional trawler yacht. Based on its range, it would be ideally suited for extended coastal cruising in "big waters" (I'm thinking Newfoundland & Labrador as an example). While the range might seem low, I see the little ship as something that your typical "Coastal Crusier" really isn't designed for - i.e the run between safe harbors on really big water. Great find! Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for watching and for leaving a comment 🙌
Good luck with your purchase...
Thats exactly what I was thinking. Our home is Sydney NS and we travel regularly to Newfoundland. This would be perfect. We are generally in 40ft ish boats. Perfectly safe for the crossing but sometimes not so much fun. Plus its essentially a work boat with the the working spaces converted to nice accomodations. but work boat thinking in that they made it it really nice using stuff that requires very little effort to keep it looking like a million bucks. The Newfs loved my brothers sailing cat. I think they would approve whole heartedly of this little beauty.
@@spiderbass4hire474 I've taken the ferry across the gulf many times over the years. 🙂
Cool boat thank you
Thanks for watching! I am going to be filming on this boat tomorrow 🙂
Whauuu , thats the Boat i like 👍👍👍 Super Vid , thanks my friend !
Thanks for watching 🙌
I just found your channel and just subscribed. Awesome job brother keep up the good work. I love the style of boats that you're putting out greetings from the states.🇺🇸👍
Thanks for the sub - I appreciate it 🙂
The pilot house should have been stretched 2,5 - 3 more meters to the front.
And then you could have put the tender behind the flybridge. That would have made so much more interior space.
But you lose the smoothness of the cruise by proportioning weight to the front of the boat.
I agree with that needs many changes for the $$$ looks like a tugboat

🙌
For 3m i would consider to buy the Astra trawler
Love your channel!
Thanks! I appreciate it 🫡
Would it be possible to install a kite to extend the range, as is done on some motor yachts?
The hull structure is a beautiful design but, first MAJOR problem that kills this is the very limited range. That alone are going to kill customer sales either for business or private use... Also, the pilot house needs to be stretched further forward and the tender placed up top behind the fly bridge for better emergency access. And please note that any 50 foot needs at least 2 heads, one just isn't a sales perk .... This vessel has a great look but needs some serious redesigning if you want to make headway in the personal trawler markets. You would have a serious winner here if redone. Best wishes.
The builders own video states that it has two heads
When MMS built her, they wanted Sea Ranger to be used as a commercial survey boat within their own fleet if required, hence its look and fit out.
Make one like the old wooden steam trawlers with the side net
Love the rugged exterior and the somewhat industrial interior. If you need inspiration for a future video, check out the Bruijs Coaster 14.65 OK
Thanks for the heads-up re the Brujis🙌 When MMS built the vessel, they wanted it to be used as a commercial survey boat within their own fleet if required, hence its look and fit out.
I subscribed here because of this boat.
Thanks! You are in good company :-)
Would loved to see the engine room. Really nice boat.
Watch this space :-)
Competing with Privateer- the internals need to be much more luxurious
She needs to hold more fuel, in my opinion. Now just a costal cruiser.
Beautiful, heavily built vessel. Needs to have Atlantic crossing range… it can take it
Dutch doors would be nice
This boat (hull #1) was built for the owner as more of a coastal cruiser. If a client wanted larger fuel tanks then this is something the yard would certainly accommodate 🙌
@@YachtBuoy thank you for the input. Didnt know larger fuel tanks were optional
That interior looks straight out the late 70's early 80's
When MMS built Sea Ranger, they wanted it to be used as a commercial survey boat within their own fleet if required, hence its look and fit out.
@@YachtBuoy I fully understand the psyche behind the build, the quality show's. I just wish I could afford one.
Range is lacking. I’d have added a few more feet and used it to add bigger tanks. Can’t explore much if you can’t get there. Not sure-but I wonder if a single, larger engine might be better for range here than twin engines. I get that this is an explorer type boat, but it seems over-indexed on the utilitarian side. I’d keep the functional bits, like heavy, dogged doors, but up the luxury in cabins and common areas. Add some charm.
Love that it's being built in the UK but sadly it's way off the mark. For 3 million it's in direct competition with Fleming which is far more stylish with vastly better fuel economy and range. Still good to see it though.
Flemings are high end long range coastel cruisers. They're semi-displacement where as this ones a full displacement Yacht. Can't really compare them because there mission is different.
Correct ! Nice vessel but no where near Fleming and Nordhanven.
@@fredjones7705 I thought the same thing in response. The hills alone say otherwise.
You do a great job! You should start getting out and doing these tours out in the boat!!
Feel free to use any of my videos. Do you offer voice over work??
Hi Dan 🙌 thanks for the feedback, I appreciate it 👍 I am hoping to get out on this boat soon 🤞
Thanks for your offer re the use of your videos, I will check them out.
Yes, I do offer voice over work 😀 please feel free to email me: John@yacht-buoy.com or you can DM on Instagram 🙌
Interior looks straight out of the early 90s. I prefer Bering, by far.
does it have an engine room?
Oh dear, lovely hull and external shots, but that interior. OMG, like a 1970s cafe! If you want someone to spend £3M then it's got to look better than a Wimpy bar!
Thanks for watching :-) This is hull number one as was made according to the preferences of the current owner. MMS, the shipyard that built Sea Ranger, would be more than happy to speak with a potential owner re the design and finish of the interior spaces etc...
Yoo, I remember you had only 1k subs or so, now already at 20k! Time to connect with yacht brokers and shipyards to get on board!
Thanks for joining me on the virtual journey :-) I have got some interesting visits lined up over the next six weeks so make sure you stay tuned and hit that notification bell :-)
If you want capability without all of the luxury of a Nordhavn or Bering, this might be the boat for you. I would like to see a bit more range, though.
100% But I would also add that other established brands offer much better value and fit & finish.
That foredeck is a huge waste of space, move the pilot house forward 3 meters and put your inflatable on the upper deck. If you want an example of what I'm talking about look at a grand banks 58.
Now thats a man boat ,,, no Tupperware in sight. But whats the range like.
Can I buy the ship
Does the owner's cabin have an on-suite head?
Indeed it does
It seems to push water with brute force, has unacceptable fuel burn for eight knots and minimal range for a boat this size.
Thanks for watching :-) Keep in mind that this is hull number one and that the yard would be happy to speak with a potential owner about engine configuration and fuel tank sizes etc.
@Phil,
And no place for photovoltaic panels?
It is a displacement hull.
@@jmp.t28b99 Just like a square shoe box.
Yes it’s a displacement hull, but it does look like it’s pushing too much water for its speed. Thrust angle, bow lift and for/aft weight distribution may need to be addressed. This seems to be an all too common problem with many well known brands because of aspect ratios. Wide bodies sell the interior (the wife) at the sacrifice of hydrodynamics.
I like her looks, but I would extend the after end sidewalls to obscure the rather obvious swim platform. She would have to be transported if the owner fancied the west indies.
@Roland,
Does the 1,500nm range seem limiting?
Coastal voyaging would be ok,but if the owner fancied crossing the Atlantic not so sure.
She is very nice for rich people.
A proper trawler. Great find, great video
Thanks 🙌
Will this yacht with 23 meters be possible?
Speaking to the owner of the shipyard today, they are open to having a discussion about custom build version of this trawler yacht 🙌
Nice boat but needs more range 🥸
Thanks for watching!
What is the price
Ooc, how much is a litre of diesel selling for in Australia, marine?
$2.40 AUD; I just bought 600 litres at $2.39. Still cheaper than refitting the present engines (KAD-300 x 2).
Yea they missed the mark on this one. They need to look at bearing yachts to see how trawler explorer yachts are done. This is a work boat with nicer finishes. It doesn't have enough range for explorer yacht status. The rooms look like they are out of my merchant mariner days on cargo ships. Way too much wasted space forward of the house. If they had moved the pilot house forward and lengthened the main salon they could have put the davit and tender on top of the house. I am sure its a fine sturdy seaworthy boat but for 3 million I would want more space and more bling.
The rounded doors with the square surround is really not a quality finish!!!!!!!
02:44
1,500nm.
Does this seem limiting?
This vessel was built as a fleet support vessel so her range is reflective of that role. However, if a buyer was interested in one of these as a new build then the yard would accommodate requests such as longer range capabilities etc
Good video 👍🏻 The boat is not my cup of tea 😱
Thanks for watching 🙌
I would like to believe that if they do an 80 ft in this model with enough fuel to do 4,000 nautical miles it would be one awesome boat. Not that this one isn't. But with an 80-ft you could add two more cabins. And probably have a crew of three.
80 feet is too long for most boaters, in Europe 24 meters is the limit for boats which can be handled without a captain's license. In my home country any 15 year old can pilot a
@@karipintakivi9153 That might be, but would you want a 15 yr. old handling your multi-million dollar yacht or an experienced captain sailing you explorer yacht around the world?
It seems nobody has noticed how low its profile is. It's a super beefy and super heavy vessel with a low profile, which means it would be very stable under rough sea.
But I don't really like the interior. The dining room look like crew mess.
She certainly is a super sturdy vessel, that’s for sure. 🙌
I love the boat, but sadly it seems to be over priced compared to the competition.
I had a chat with the yard the other day. They are open to offers from qualified buyers. If you are interested in finding out more, then please send me an email: john@yacht-buoy.com
£3m + vat puts a holt on looking any further 🤣
Good presentation mate. However I was just thinking about how you might increase your subscribers number. Instead of a V.O presentation, how about going all out to get onto the vessel itself and having a visual presentation. I'm subbed to at least three other channels, including YMB, Nautistyles, etc. All visual. I forget their numbers, but they are in six figures. I can only speak for myself, but you do a damn fine job sir, BUT, as the old saying goes, "there's always room for improvement." Just giving you my 10c worth. Take care John, and from down here in Nz, all the best.
The crazy thing is, that I had been planning a trip up to see this boat for about four months. But in the end, it just wasn’t possible. So I had to use the images and footage in the video, rather than filming my own footage. I had also been planning, for about five months, to go and film another trawler yacht from another well known builder. But they ghosted me and the yacht I was supposed to film ended up on another channel. This is why I always ask people to subscribe as all the majority of big brand boat builders look at, are your subscriber numbers….however, I have got a ‘Plan B’ that I am working on 🙌
@@YachtBuoy Fair comment.
Meant to add in my post, that in your role with the navy and RNLI , you must know someone who knows someone who can open doors for you, to get the access you need. Cheers from Bryan. Looking forward to Plan B.
Start with smaller yachts and go from there, after a couple of years you will blogging on 20 meter yachts. To be honest I enjoy reviews on 12 meter boats much much better then 40 meter yachts.
@@bryanbadger6841 I am actually going to be on this boat (camera in hand) tomorrow 🙂 stay tuned for the video
n. Good news John. I'll be waiting and watching. Atb.
Interior resembles a 1970's decor style; button tuff setae? Range is not a long range cruiser
I'll have two please.
😂
I would prefer the Bering 65 over this one any day.
In some respects, the design reminds me of a Watson (Pacific Motor Yachts)...on other respects not so much.
That’s going to sink. I have a feeling. 🤭
It looks good... but I would hate to try to use some of those things. No rim on the counters for seas. No rim on the table or depressions to hold the plates and glasses for the seas. I would rather have the bunks fold up and a desk fold down in the rooms. Lets put some seat belts on the bunks and the seats at the table. Yes, they can be very helpful. Some bungee cords in the galley wall would be good to hold equipment in place. The stove DOES feature a rail! Excellent. Now lets throw one on the edge of the counters that can fold down in calm waters. How about magnets? We could epoxy some in the dishware to hold fast in some mounted in the table... come on guys, its a heavy duty boat meant for open water. Lets make it appropriate for those open waters.
The Boat looks nice gut there is something to change at the boat. There is nö toom for all i need for a long Trip like many to est and Drink. At the kitchen i will nothing stay if there are realy waves all will go down to die ground. There is some to make better vor a real londistanc boat.
Just wish it had a better range
I am sure future hulls will. This was built as a fleet tender for the yard that built it.
what a pity it doesn't have a comfortable saloon to chill.
Thanks for watching :-) A potential owner could chat to MMS about the interior design and spaces. Hull number one was made according to the preferences of the owner.
built strong, but as said, range is lacking, elling e6 would be my choice.
Hull number one (this one) was built as for the owner of the shipyard who never wanted to travel long distances on it (hence the range). But if an owner wanted larger fuel tanks then the yard would happily oblige
This is my type of boat. I hate a flashy interior.
At least you know that when you ditch your foul weather gear you are not going to ruin the interior
Beautiful trawler but not a Northern Marine 57.
1500nm range falls way behind the norm in this type of craft.
Looks more like a tug than a trawler.
For three million I could fly biz class and stay at a five star hotel and eat like a king anywhere in the world every month for 15 years.
Long range trawler should be trans Atlantic.
This boat was built, in part, to act as a support vessel for local off-shore operations. If a client wanted an MMS 55 for transoceanic operations then I am sure the yard would engineer the vessel accordingly
@@YachtBuoy Thanks for the feed back.
No worries 🙌 thanks for watching 👍
Looks like a very basic boat no luxury fitting as mentioned before the range is very limited you couldn't across the Atlantic with this boat it didn't mention the price I bet there's a lot more cheaper boats that will travel at least 3000 miles before refilling
Terrible range and I think the company needs to find a company that can fit it out a bit better. Some of the worst decor I've seen on a new vessel. Otherwise the boat is definately an all weather beast!
Its low range is just because that is what the owner wanted. They would fit large fuel tanks to hull #2 if an owner wanted a longer range version
@@YachtBuoy True
Bow pushes to much water, inefficient hull shape.
