A Hard Day's Night The Beatles. People would choose Sgt Pepper's as their favorite Beatles summer album or Revolver, but I went with A Hard Day's Night since that was the first album I ever bought! I also watched the movie and it was hilarious 🤣! Beatlemania was huge in 1964 and they succeeded!

1. Beach Boys - Pet Sounds
2. Moody Blues - Long Distance Voyager
@@sdrandazzo Hi Sal. Marvelous pick
Brothers and Sisters is a solid album, and southern rock could be great music for the summer. Of course, down here in Central Florida, we play that kind of stuff - like Skynyrd and the Allmans - year round.
Again, I think I'll be basing my picks on albums I actually added to my collection during the summertime of whatever year it was. And with that...
My Day 2 Pick:
Nada Surf - High/Low
The debut album from this NYC based alternative rock/indie rock/power pop group. In the summer of 1996, their song "Popular" - which is a passive-aggressive attack on bullshit high school politics - was constantly played on radio and MTV.
I don't remember if it was Father's Day or on my grandpa's birthday, when I bought the album, but I remember that my mom took me to buy the album real quick before we headed to my grandparents' for one of summer gatherings.
Awesome album, from opener "Deeper Well" to closer "Zen Brain." Other highlights for me include "Sleep," "Stalemate," "Tree House," and "Psychic Caramel."
Hell, even the cover screams summer, as it has an adolescent kid about to jump his bicycle into a lake.
My July Picks (So Far):
Day 1: Motley Crue - Dr. Feelgood
Day 2: Nada Surf - High/Low
I like Santana IV when some original band members like Greg Rolie rejoined the guitar maestro and its a good cd to play in the car in the summer

2. KISS -- "Dressed to Kill"
The definitive soundtrack to my summer of '75. Some Arapaho and Shoshone Native American friends from school invited some friends and I to the perfect swimming hole in the Popo Agie River on the Wind River Indian Reservation, and we'd play this over and over on a cheap little battery powered cassette player. "Two Timer," "Rock Bottom," "R&R All Nite" and Ace's "Getaway" (sung by Peter). Still my favorite KISS album. We made a lot of Native American friends that summer.

I’m listing albums that remind me of youth growing up in Summer. Great memories with this selection. I graduated high school 1980. 1. Jimmy Buffett “A1A.”
@@joewilson1584 Hi Joe. Fantastic pick
My summer pick today is ZZ Top- Eliminator!!
Great Pick!
My pick for today is Deep Purple - Machine Head. A phenomenal album by the English Hard Rock band. It kicks off with a song that has already resulted in many speeding tickets, I fear, the intense opener ´Highway Star´ that really blasts out of the speakers. The interaction between the musicians is sensational. ´Never Before´ and ´Lazy´ are excellent rockers with fine Jazzy Arrangements. The most well known track is off course ´Smoke On The Water´ with that iconic riff and story behind the song. But the absolute sensation for me is ´Space Truckin´ Such a powerful, exciting trip performed with so much exceptional musicianship. I usually picture a barfight scene while listening to this song. I hate violence in real life but I can enjoy a good barfight in a movie. That song is ideal to kick some ass.

@@yokerecords803 Thanks Yoke.
@@melaniethurber5117 Thanks Melanie.
Great pick, Danny. One of the albums I credit for getting me into heavy music.
Pick #2: No Doubt's Tragic Kingdom. Honestly an album where the deep cuts are just as good if not better than some of the singles and there are no tracks I'm tempted to skip. Much like 311, I suppose No Doubt kind of go in the ska genre which may rub some people the wrong way, but I never get tired of these tracks no matter how many times I hear them.
#1: 311's Transistor
#2: No Doubt's Tragic Kingdom
Yeah, some styles of music isn't for everyone but this does fit the summer spirit.
Thought an obvious choice for summertime music had to be The Doobie Brothers. Their upbeat blend of hard rock, country, folk, blues, soul and sweet harmonies going perfectly with summer. Their best album is probably The Captain and Me, but for my pick today I've gone with their 2nd album Toulouse Street. Any album that includes the wonderfully sunny Listen To The Music and top-down cruising anthem Rockin' Down The Highway picks itself! It's rather cool & breezy here in the UK today; just have to imagine I'm in California instead!
Great choice and article Mike, a perfect summing up of why the band and this album are great summer listens.
Love The Doobs..."Mamloi" from that album is a deep cut. Worth checking out.
Day 2. Original Mirrors - Original Mirrors. 😃👍. Debut album released in 1980 on Arista Records. During the summers in the early 1980s, my older brother Christopher and I would scour discount store cut-out bins for rare, unusual and inexpensive vinyl. He would drive us to various discount record haunts from Norwalk to Trumbull. I found this blind buy album as a cut-out at a Woolworth. The album cover screamed at me. It is killer early U.K. New Wave. 🔥. I finally found minty vinyl without a cut cover recently. This album really needs a CD reissue! Quirky synth pop rock is fun for summer listening! Rock Always! - Heather
For the Roses - Joni Mitchell
Hi Pete. Dave here. My pick today is SPILT MILK by JELLYFISH. I think power pop is a terrific summertime sound, and this is one of the best power pop albums. Plenty more coming up!

Great selection Pete. I have this one coming up.
2) The B-52s - The B-52s
The B-52s were New Wave pioneers. "Rock Lobster", influenced by the vocalizations of Yoko Ono, is of course, a New Wave classic. But oh, there is so much more to this album. "Planet Claire" combines tacky sci-fi/horror flick music with clever, offbeat lyrics. "Dance This Mess Around" is a brilliant mish-mosh of Shangri-Las melodrama, Sumpremes Pop, '50s and '60s dance fads and wacky teen soap opera. "52 Girls" is a nod to every woman alive. "Lava" and "Hero Worship" are fantastic, and overlooked by some who only know "Rock Lobster". And then there's the hilarious cover of Petula Clark's "Downtown" bringing the album to a close.
I bought this record when it was originally released in 1979 and it's still as vibrant today as it was back then.
Favorite Tracks:
"Planet Claire"
"Dance This Mess Around"
"Rock Lobster"
"52 Girls"

These are 2 excellent album choices 👍
Marc Johnson: The Sound of Summer Running (1998)
The bassist led this quartet with Pat Metheny and Bill Frisell on guitars, and Joey Baron on drums. It’s mellow and sounds like the soundtrack to sitting on the front porch drink lemonade in a small town, or having adventures down by the creek. Metheny and Frisell are amazing together. Love this album.
...don't have this, but love all the players you mentioned.
@@jazzpunkthis fits in really well with the open jazzy “Americana” sound both guitarists have developed.

Continuing with my first summer theme - 'Albums Released in the Summer' - Crumbacher's ESCAPE FROM THE FALLEN PLANET comes to mind. This album was played on certain niche stations during the summer of 86. It could also be applied to this month's forthcoming themes: 'Summer and Party Vibe. In fact, this record specifically gets my mind to the beach (growing up in Atlantic City, the beach is meh, but this record brings me there).

My pick today is SANTANA III. I could have picked just about any Santana album, but of all of them, this is the one I tend to go for at any time, but especially in the summer. From the opening Batuka, through the groovy sway of Nobody To Depend On, to the likes of Taboo, Guajira and Jungle Strut there's not a wasted note. With the dualling guitars of Carlos himself and the teenage protégé, Neal Schon and Gregg Rolie's warm soulful voice, that blend of Soul, jazz, rock, blues and latin rhythms and groove just oozes summertime for me and is like honeyed candy to my ears.

Van Halen-5150. This 1986 album was the first with Sammy Hagar. It was produced by Don Landee, Mick Jones, and the band. Don was the engineer on the six albums with Dave. Mick Jones is, of course, from Foreigner. To me, the "hello, baby!" Intro of Good Enough is the perfect start to a summer bash. There's also Summer Nights.
Neil Young Harvest or Harvest Moon. Chillin music
Day 2: Vangelis - Voices
Day 1: Enya - Watermark
Today's pick is Jethro Tull-Aqualung. My favorite album of all-time so naturally, it has been prime summertime listening over the years. After all, who would not want to enjoy a summer day of an iced tea with "Cross-Eyed Mary" , then taking a dip in the "Slipstream" while "Wond'ring Aloud" if "Aqualung" will come to the party that evening. If it was "Up To Me", I would hope he would show up there, maybe with "Mother Goose" by his side. Aqualung, the best album ever in my opinion and sounds phenomenal in the summertime.
did you get the new "Bursting Out"?
@@independenceltd. No, I did not Independence. How is it?
My God Yoke! Great pick!
@@yokerecords803 Hi Yoke. Marvelous pick and article. I thought about posting this album but they didn’t make it.
@@melaniethurber5117 Thanks Mel! Every album in existence is eligible.
My #2 compilation album/mix tape to maintain that Cali vibe is Gold by John Stewart.
Here in Sweden we play a band Called Gyllene Tider it means Golden Times it's Per Gessle his first band he was in Roxette and it's really Swedish summer music
Well just like buses, another live album comes today, if fact you get two for one today since one of them has not been out that long (april 2021), these live albums take me right back to the 1976 concert at Knebworth (I was there!!!!) where the Stones were headlining but for me this band blew the stones away, opened alot of peoples eyes to Southern Rock and became an immediate favourite for me. The live albums always get serious airplay in the Summer in my car / house / jukebox at the pub although they do get played at other times as well and of course my neighbours have to put up with them as well.
So I am sure you have guessed by now but my pick for Day 2 - Live at Knebworth 76 / One More From The Road Lynyrd Skynyrd

Day 2 Robin Trower Essential Robin Trower album I have on cd . The Essential Robin Trower Review by Stephen Thomas Erlewine at All Music
Essential is a strong single-disc collection that features 16 highlights from Robin Trower's long career at Chrysalis, including such staples as "Too Rolling Stoned," plus several key album tracks. While such albums as Bridge of Sighs work as individual albums, this does a nice job of rounding up highlights from uneven records, making it a nice sampler both for casual fans and the curious.

Great album and could use Bridge of Sighs thus have vinyl so being on cd this Essential album collection you see some from those albums from Twice Removed From Yesterday, Bridge Of Sighs. From Earth Below, Long Misty Days Victims Of Fury and well these fine tracks that are so loved and can be one to load in cd player and take on the outside and enjoy as well. So many great albums and still plays with and so electrifying as I saw in 1975 and then in 1976. Would have loved to caught more shows/ Time of living and being along to working and along other things i went to what shows of artists and stuff so looking and reminding one of summer albums of then and even of ones now they resonate to great feeling times. Take care and hugs and till next time friends b well.
