Your apartment looked amazing even before you changed anything, but your small changes take it up a notch!
We helped my sister stage her house for sale, and our research said that most people don't have much imagination. So we created a fantasy home--lots of fresh flowers, flower pots on the front steps, no dishrack, dishsoap etc visible because it's clutter and in this fantasy, noone does dishes. We set the table for a party (even people who don't throw parties will feel like it's a place where they would have friends over). We set up vignettes with garden gloves and seeds by the back door, a book and a pair of glasses by the bedside, etc. And research shows that nice photos suited to the house help create a good atmosphere (small apartment: photos of happy friend groupings because your market is probably a single person. Large house: a few photos of happy family outings and family gatherings--because people will then believe if another family was happy in the house, they will be, too. We had the advantage of it being a seller's market, where she had one big open house instead of a lot of showings, so we only had to do the setup once (the house sold at the first open house for well over the asking price).

Hope you sell quickly without having the stress of forever showing. My place didn´t sell for a year and each time a showing was scheduled, I had to hide all my personal belongings and make myself and my dog scarce for 30-40 minutes, sometimes in freezing winter weather. It´s so much easier to have already moved out before starting the showings, but not many can really afford to do that.
Oh, that sounds awful! Totally agree on not being able to move out before though.
You did an amazing job preparing your apartment for sale. I've never seen people try that hard in my country.

I think it’s pretty common to stage your home in Sweden for sale. I haven’t seen this in the other places I have lived.

Benita you're so ahead of the curve in this process! Selling my house was on the opposite end of the Benita gradient. It took me 3 months working every free second I had. I painted every room, including the window trim and ceilings, stripped wallpaper from the bathroom, decluttered via a yard sale (off-loaded a pick-up truck full of stuff), and my ex had a basement full of bike magazines and his parent's old things, plus a garage. When we were done we were exhausted. It paid off, but I wished we had painted the kitchen cabinets earlier. You're so right about repairing broken things - just do it now!
I think that all of Benita's little decluttering efforts along the way really prepared her for this moment. I like the idea of a Benita gradient. 🙂 What I did a couple of years ago was invite a home stager in my home so that it could be seen with a fresh set of eyes. It only cost around $100. She gave me a list of things to do that caught her eye. I plan to see only in about a year or so, so this gave me plenty of time. The little maintenance things add up and, like Benita says, it's good to do them for yourself along the way instead of while getting your house ready for sale.

While I was selling our last home I was cleaning it every day. We had to live in it while selling. You were very lucky to have a separate place to stay while showing. I started prepping over a year in advance because we had lived there for 18 years. It was a lot of work, but our home looked so nice while we were doing the showings. I didn't have to do much for our new home, because it was a new build. Thanks for sharing your experience, I'm sure it went very well for you. The buyers are very lucky to get your apartment. I never knew that someone lived above you. Thanks for sharing 🤗🍃🍂💐💗✝
I am still living in the apartment. I just borrow the guest apartment for the actual hour of the showing.
Your place is lovely and will certainly sell easily. I would also recommend removing prescriptions, jewelry and other valuables before showing the apartment. There have been problems in our town.

Good luck with the move, looks like everything is under control! When selling our place in Canada we would often have 20 minutes notice for viewings so each family member had assigned tasks, something the kids saw as a game and saved me serious stress!
That sounds very stressful! Great idea to gamify that for your kids!

Just wanted to send you a more personal thumbs up! We moved 6 years ago and I began decluttering our home of 23 years a good 6 months before we put our own home on the market. It was so beneficial when it came time to stage and then actually move, reducing our stress considerably!

You did an amazing job before listing your apartment 🥰 I have seen almost 60 apartments in Copenhagen and the majority of them were no where near as tidy and clutter free as yours. People have a belief that anything will sell here at any price given the market🙄 Good luck with the sale !
The market was crazy here for a while too before summer but it’s slowed down quite a bit.

Very good tips! There is no more weird than visiting home for sale where is lots of family photos everywhere! These are personal objects and should be took out! Looking forward to your new apartment!

Excellent advice 👏😃. We sold our house last year, but we were living overseas, it was tricky as it was rented out and apparently the renter's didn't have great taste 🙄🙄🙄🤦. Our agent was brilliant and sorted everything out. Our previous house was bought privately by our next door neighbor, he just wanted the house so that he could move his business onto the property, it was super easy for both parties.
A good realtor is so important!

You really hit on everything with this, Benita - great advice for folks, and I'm sure your apartment shines and will be snatched up by a lucky buyer. We just went through the process of buying a home here in USA and I was nodding along with your mention of fixing things. OH the issues I saw in some houses, and I wondered the same thing. If they will photograph and show it this way, what is WORSE that hasn't been taken care of? Some friends of mine recently bought an historic home and found out that there were HOLES in the floor that had been covered by furniture when they did the walk-throughs. Not little holes, big vent sized holes that went straight to the dirt under the house. 🤯
I’ve seen some less appealing places where the lack of attention to detail really put me off. But holes that big 😬

Yay! A journey with you on this new adventure... to a 19th/20th century place in Stockholm!!? YAYYY!! I love my Surfshark...!! Pity I have to pay tax over that price. I am not planning to move though, moved so many times I had enough. This is the first house I live in longer than a few years. Great video for anyone preparing to sell their home! We sold our previous home ourselves and most of the things you're doing. I agree that depersonalizing your home helps! We had dog things that I removed for showings and vacuumed/mopped daily. Vacuume lines are sexy, especially when selling your home. haha!
Haha, I remember loving those lines when I lived with my parents and we had wall to wall carpet!
So excited to see where you choose to live next. We stayed in a stunning apartment ( top floor with terrace ) in Hagagatan. I also visited Södermalm while we were there and have to say I loved all of Stockholm, so clean and orderly and had some great coffee / fika there.
Stockholm is quite clean compared to some other cities I’ve visited and I really appreciate that too!
We have just sold our house.Down sizeing .Staying at my mother in laws until we see what we are looking for.It has been stressful we sold and donated our furniture.look fwd to buying new things.😀

I love this apartment, but looking forward to your new home. I followed along as you’ve moved over the years and you always make every house a real home. Is the Stockholm market very tight right now? Prices in my area are skyrocketing and I feel for younger people.
