@@Katchatiger I know! I also hunt deer and people get freaked out about cutting up an animal too. If it doesn't come in a box or wrapper, it's foreign to people. Such a unique time in the world's history we're in.

For a firebow set, I have used Pine Barren Goldenrod (Solidago fistulosa) for a spindle on a Heartleaf Sida (Sida cordifolia) fireboard to get a coal with good success. They both have low ignition temperatures similar to Yucca stem and Horseweed stem. Cattail stem on a Yucca fireboard works also.
I always used it for dried décor in the fall time. Spray with a bit of hair spray or soak in glycerin water to retain the blooms. Makes great flower arangments.
I love Goldenrod. It calms my anxiety. Canadian Goldenrod in Tennessee is very nice to smell but nothing like licorice or anise. More like a soft warm floral.

A few weeks ago maybe a month ago I thought I saw goldenrod plants but I wasn't sure and now after seeing this video I am sure I saw them. Thanks. And I hope you had a happy Thanksgiving and we'll have a Merry Christmas.
Nice! I might add from my experience Canada goldenrod works well as a spindle for a hand drill/ bow drill for starting fire. You can also sometimes find grubs in the stalk which you can eat or use as fish bait.
Seconded on the grubs! On a boy scout survival trip I used one to catch a bluegill which I then cut up and caught 2 channel cats with. We ate good that night.

Maybe you've already done it, but it would be great -- and quite useful -- if you'd put out a video about what to harvest in the winter (or any season). I might be a little late harvesting wapato, but I'm going to give it a shot anyway. I'm in the PNW in WA, on the coast just north of the Columbia. The area, landscape, conditions, and flora are largely new to me, having lived mostly in semi-arid areas all my life. So I'm a bit lost... but I'll learn.

Yeah, I've been eating weeds for about a decade. It's almost never a turn on to people. Most people look at me like I'm insane

*I have some tall ones here, they get up to 6 feet. Also you can cut the goldenrod 1/3 down from the top and it will continue to grow*

You could burn the fuzz from the seeds. Run the stem though a fire and the fuzz should burn quickly.
I just moved down to Ft White and this channel became even more useful to me.

Alder is a popular wood for electric guitar bodies. There's plenty of golden rod growing here in rural NY during the warm months.

Have you tried burning off the fluff like with milkweed? Or maybe boiling the seeds and seeing if the fluff will float to the top?
