I adopted a rescue dog and it was required that he be neutered before I could bring him home, the poor thing was so swollen in his male parts. When I let him out in the yard he made a beeline for the goldenrod which was in full bloom, he began eating it...not nibbling on it like they do dog grass, but biting off 4 or 5 leaves at a time and chewing and swallowing like he was starved and had not eaten in weeks. He cleared the leaves off of about 5 plants. I did not know what type of properties it had, but his focused attention to it told me he was acting from prior experience so I let him continue and he stopped and then began exploring the yard. The next morning, the swelling was completely gone and I had to look up the healing properties of Goldenrod, that is how I ended up here.....great video!
The dog barrelling through made me crack up.
I thought he was about to get attacked by a bear!
he's still a puppy, so is super active and loves running through the bush...
@@Herbal_Jedi He hit the doggie jackpot when u bought him home..gets to roam in interesting scrub all day-canine heaven! Great channel btw.
lol...me too ! so happy & care-free ....so perfectly natural being his authentic self !....oh we humans have so much learn from the natural world in multiple ways !
Love that Doggo!
I never knew about the healing properties of goldenrod until we noticed our dog, who had bone cancer, started chewing specifically on younger stalks of goldenrod when we were on a walk. I watched closely to see what he was eating each time, and it was always goldenrod. I then researched it on the internet to learn more about this plant. I wonder how the dog knew what to eat. It was amazing. Your dog is cute, by the way. :)
I've watched a documentry about why dogs are our best friend and learned that dogs know a whole more than given credit for. Your dog knows.
DOGS CAN DETECT and rebound to different compounds
One of our dogs eats it when it’s stomach gets upset.
Same. My dog ate an entire little patch of dill. It soothes digestive problems.
All 3 of oyr dogs eat it too,it amazed me, too watch them know what they needed.....
Have a really bad peptic ulcer causes by H Pylori bacteria and I use so many of these flowers around my house. Golden rod is probably the most potent. Been utilizing mushrooms as well and feel so much better today. Went from 155 pds now down to 115 and thought I was on my way out till I used mint tyme chamomile and cone flowers to name a few. After the last two years I'm done with the medical establishment for obvious reasons.. Everything we could ever need is usually growing right in our back yards. Yarrow is the best and his videos are so knowledgeable. Stay Blessed everyone.

This video is interesting and healthy for everyone. Why is this guy not on the television? I can find a simple garden show..and the Kardashians, and channel after channel of murder stories. Why is that? Plant medicine would become the new hobby of millions if this kind of info were spread over the television . And health would be the topic of the day instead of sickness.
If the Masses knew about this, there would be none left. We need to be planting and growing these amazing medicines!
Big Pharma has no interest in these affairs! In France the use of stinging nettle was forbidden for a couple of years!!!
One must self- answer such a question
There’s no money in healthy people
That’s not what the pharmaceautical companies want, there’s no money in natural things
I have used a lot of Golden Rod in the past.
The way I do it is, I cut the growing plant off at the bottom of the good healthy leaf section. Make sure leaves have no fungus growing on them. Leaves have to look healthy.
I use a pruning shears to cut them. I pick my yrs supply of Golden Rod plants with as much stem that has good healthy looking leaves. I will have a large armful of Golden Rod. And bring them home and put them out in the sun to dry, if possible. If it is raining a lot, I find a place inside to put them to dry.
Once dry, I strip dry leaves and flowers (which have turned to fluff and seeds by now), off the hard woody stems. Then I crush it all up by hand as fine as possible and store in airtight containers.
This I use to make tea, as follows:
I use a 2.5 litre pot and fill with water and bring to boil. Have about 2 cups of golden rod tea ready. Remove pot of boiling water from element and immediately add the Golden Rod Tea to pot. Do not stir. Cover pot and let sit for several hours, until cold or room temp.
By this time, all the Golden Rod tea should of settled to the bottom.
And you should have a rich dark brown tea. This is a concentrate.
I strain it, and put it in a pitcher and store in the fridge in the coldest part of the fridge, just short of freezing. It will last a long time.
When I want a cup of tea, I pour about 50 to 100 ml in cup and add room temperature water to fill cup and drink it.
I find that I actually only need enough of the concentrate to colour the water.
IMO it is a powerful soothing drink.
Thank you!
I appreciate you sharing your "recipe".
I came down to leave MY, "little concoction tea mix" and I see that-
"Whelp, someone's already got one down here."
The ONLY things I would add, are based on what you're "feeling", (maybe an abcess tooth- [since "seasons" ARE about to change/are changing.. I'm getting a LOT of questions as to "what to use"/"when to use"..] more people will find their body's, "struggling to adjust", and with each year- the "struggle to adapt", becomes harder & harder on the body itself.
That's simply, "aging". It's natural & it happens.
Plants, however-
Will, can & ALREADY HAVE- "slowed down that process".
Adding cinnamon, honey, citrus juice, other plant "juices" will "help" to utilize more of "Goldenrod's properties".
Also, when it comes to "harvesting", just "SAY NO"- to "imposter syndrome".
You do NOT, "HAVE TO"- "leave with an empty basket & come back- 'FULL'.. in order to be "successful" or "ethical" for that matter.
Always LEAVE- MORE than ½ of what EVER, 'IT' is that you're going "foraging"/"gathering" FOR!
There are SO SO many, who-
Not only "CANNOT tell" when/why/how "empty basket syndrome", FACTually-
"Works", and while, "ignoring" & "denying"- "#TakingResponsibilityForYourActions", is NOT- "a BIG thing" [right NOW- "..bc gov/pharma- are NOT, 'taking responsibility for 'THEIR' ACTions.."] this,, does NOT, "MEAN":
"OH, okay. Well- if 'THEY', 'don't HAVE TO'- 'take responsibility', then- neither am I."
I PINKY PROMISE you, [in this case/this time..]
YOU, ARE "The ONLY One", who- IS:
- going to "HAVE TO"...
- "pay the consequences" of YOUR OWN, "RE ACTions".
Hence, why so many 'humans', 'bodys' ARE- "breaking down", at alarmingly rapid pace.
Thank you
Thank you for your recipe!!❤️❤️

My dad has beehives near a field of goldenrods, it makes the honey quite special - much darker. We call goldenrods "golden brooms" or simply "little brooms" in my family in Latvia.
Lovely. Thank you for sharing.
I was just asking God and the angels how to help an issue and your video came up . Now I can say your God backed . Woop 🙌!
Dog was a huge hit with me too. Made me laugh, I needed that.💛
As a beekeeper, I prize Goldenrod. It affords me the ability to harvest honey from the summer and then give my bees, August, September to recollect from Goldenrod for their winter stores! Goldenrod honey is also great for allergies and I sometime take just a single frame for myself ;)
You're my 5-year-old's favourite CZcamsr ♥️ we were picking golden rod the other day and she was asking if you have a video about it... I said unfortunately not but if we send a wish out, you may upload one. Now BANG! You're the best! Lots of love from us from Latvia where we have this growing all over the place now ♥️
Thank you for sharing your story!! I see, have happening myself and read or hear about SO MUCH of this lately with the synchronicity and even outright psychic type Connection happening among people and animals... Even PLANTS!
Honestly, I have seen this crazy thing happening strongly since 2013 when a VERY dark red sky came one night in August 2013 and FREAKED my Hubby and I out so bad we took a picture and I never stopped shooting daily/nightly for 5 straight years! THEN a red glow stayed in the Southeast for over 5 years, pulsating nightly until it faded out years later and is now gone totally.
I documented it for those years and numerous other sky Anomalies/Objects ✨🤷 including Orbs/UFOs 😊😏
What do you think of this? It's also your joint EXPERIENCE now, likely other episodes with friends and family too😎.
Sorry for the long and obscure comment but your story and the ENERGY it resonates grabbed me and wouldn't let go😂😂
Much Love! 😇😘🤗
I love this... Thank you for sharing.

That isn’t how it works. No “god” is necessary. There are limited resources in nature. For plants, that means limited space to soak in sunlight and spread roots. So a plant that can utilize resources others can’t will be more successful at proliferating. For example, by sprouting and blooming where or when other plants aren’t, by utilizing nutrients that maybe others aren’t, and by producing chemicals that counteract parasitic bacteria and fungi better than in their neighbors. In this way, plants with niche specializations proliferate. It might then be the case that animals, such as ourselves, that eat a particular plant species also proliferate because some of the same innovations that benefit plants also benefit animals. Over time, there are more animals that eat the useful plant, simply because the ones that didn’t eat it don’t proliferate as well. And a concurrent benefit is that there are more useful plants for eating because animals have returned certain benefits - for example, fertilizing the plants with their gaseous, liquid, and solid wastes, carrying the plants’ seeds in their fur, between toes, or in their digestive tracts, and thinning out thick clumps of a species which might strengthen those that are left. For thousands of years humans have even been proactively cultivating the plants that we find the most useful. We think of cultivation as something we only do with vegetables and grains, but herbs and flowers have also been cultivated for thousands of years. So it isn’t a coincidence or a divine act that these plants exist. It is a result of natural selection, which in the last many thousand years includes human selection and cultivation.
There is no God.
There is no God. This is a concept to control the masses. Think about this, God bless America. You realize there’s North America Central America and South America. United States
Why would God if he does exist bless America or other country for that matter. Can you see the politician are using God to control. Supposedly this is been going on for quite some time, 2000 years. Most educated person or politician or control taking person Say these things to control people in order to get what they want which is money and power security, These people are minority compared to the mass of people. There’s no hell there’s no heaven when you die the game is over.

I can live off my yard. I throw in what I want. I have yarrow, violets, moss, bark, dandelions, mint, plantain, mullein, luminaria, etc.
I've done the same thing! I have a great stand of goldenrod out back--thought it must be useful but didn't know how!
When I first became interested in Goldenrod, I was coming down from a heavy Hawaiian Baby Woodrose session, there was some DXM and cannabis in the mix. But it was this time last year and when I went for a walk on the comedown/afterglow I saw the goldenrod seemed to speak to me and ignite my interest in herbalism. I’m making a mullein leaf/root, golden rod flower and fresh fly agaric tea for a well-being drink today. Thank you, Yarrow!
Lol, that's how it is for me. I use Google Lens to help with identifying plants and getting a close find to the actual plant. Thankfully most of the time it's pretty accurate.
Heck yea I did that today too
My grandpa would make this into a balm fermented in olive oil. I never saw or knew it's proper name, so I could not replicate it. NOW I can. Thank you for this great gift.
What did he use the balm for?

I got injections in between my knuckles from the pain clinic. I also got a lot of relief from Goldenrod salt scrub that I make. I do not get the hand injections anymore. For me it works.
That sounds awful. I'm glad the plant helps!
Knuckle pain, or any other joint pain/inflammation is mostly caused by food as grains & rafinated sugar (especially those with blodtype A) . 🌟 I got rid of grains, but sometimes, when eating role, i get pain in my wrists & ankles. Check out " grain brain"... Check out Otto Warburg what he said back in 1930's that gave him Nobel prize.. 🙏💖💓💕💕💕🌍🌎🌏
In Mexico the people grab a bee and sting themselves in between the knuckle or painful areas for relief.
How do you make the goldenrod salt scrub?
@@westwood3286 i have also heard that hitting yourself with stinging nettle branches gets the blood moving to that area and has the same effect
Fantastic video Yarrow. I hope everybody only takes what they need as the bees rely on goldenrod to take them through the lean days of late fall into winter (SE USA). ✌ 💚
I hope so too, but considering its thought of as an invasive weed and eradicated in some places, I feel herbalist and plant nerds are likely to be little threat to its abundance.
It's the last food for the monarchs before they migrate too!
@@Herbal_Jedi as a practicing herbalist I always pick with this consideration and others like making sure you pick in such a way that you don't interfere with the spread and whenever I see any herbs seeding I take it on myself to spread the seeds far and wide for more growth and I hope most are doing the same
@@Herbal_Jedi I hope this is a native plant,,it's our State flower in Nebraska..
Their seeds remain in the ground for many years, so even if you remove *all* the plants year after years, they keep coming back... In Europe it's an invasive species gaining ground very fast.
When that blooms here it's a sign that fall is here. Useful in soap making as well as medicinal.

I live in NY in a more urban area, and even here in a place with very little nature Im able to find all of these amazing guys growing. Some of them are not very healthy, but they want to be our friends, they will try to force themselves up in parking lots and between the sidewalk cracks almost as if to say "please dont forget me" I am so disappointed whenever the neighbors mow their lawn because our herbal friends are thriving everywhere, they dont need an invitation! It's a luxury that 90 percent of our lawn is anything but grass.

Do you know any good Michigan edible plant books
How can we make dye out of it?
im curious how thats done as well please share!
How do you use it for dye..we want to know please?
I have used it to cure poison ivy rash for years. I make a tea from the blossoms and a few leaves. Then wash the rash with it a few times daily till it clears up.
The factory I work at has a yard surrounded by a beautiful field of overgrowth. I picked one of these and a few queen annes lace to have at my station and it smelled like chamomile all day :) it's wonderful learning all this after being told it was ragweed, the allergen.
FYI when making a tea, tincture or an oil and they say to use a certain ratio like 1:2 ratio means to use 1 oz herb to 2 oz liquid. I follow another herbalist who recommended starting with a 1oz:5 oz ratio and adjust it up by 1/2 oz for desired effectiveness. It's not always best to start too strong as some herbs are more potent than others. I hope this helps those who are leery to dive onto natural medicine. I understand the struggle!
Thanks for the tip!!!
I can't speak highly of the flavor as a tea, but goldenrod is good stuff. My dog and cat also eat the leaves and stalk.
How long do you keep it in the jar before you strain off the flower?
@@j.d.preppingerie6522 4-8 weeks for tinctures

Hi,
Amazing information. Would love it if you would share recipes for golden rod. I’m not too familiar and would love it if you would make a video with recipes etc. please 🙏🏼🙏🏼 thumbs up if everyone wants recipe videos
I follow an herbalist and she recommends starting with a ratio of 1:5 so you can make a tea, oil or tincture. So you can adjust the recipe if you need it stronger. So an example is 1 oz herb to 5 oz liquid. Then add another 1/2 oz at a time till you reach a desired effectiveness. Good luck I too got very frustrated with the lack of specific information like measurements because the average Joe doesn't know how much to use, and fear doing it wrong. He did mention a 1:2 ratio so that would be for a tea 3 oz herb to 6 oz water.
@@albanymountainhomestead thanks so much ❣
A tea bags worth to a cup
@@albanymountainhomestead Funny, I didn't even notice any ratio mentioned. Thanks for writing about it. I just filled my stock pot and covered it all with water and boiled it for 5-10 minutes then let it steep for 15-20 minutes. Bitter as a tea since I used the leaves too, but worked wonders for my skin issues. Thanks again!
