  • This is an honest review of the Happy Hen House Automatic Chicken Coop Door Opening. There are two different versions of this door. One uses an actuator, and the other uses a string and gravity. This is a review of the string and gravity version.
It has made keeping my chickens so much easier. Now we can go away for a few days and not have to worry about someone coming to let the chickens out. It's been great!
There are a couple of different versions of this one too. One lets you set open and close times based on time of day and brightness, the other is strictly brightness. I have the dual, but would probably use the lumens version next time.
The setup is relatively easy. It looks like Happy Henhouse only sells the actuator version, but this is a version that looks just like it:

    Different Brand but Similar: amzn.to/35AJtbE
Actuator Version (requires 110v Power): amzn.to/37OzHnW

We just installed the light sensored one tonight. It shut ar 8:53 pm. Unsure what time it will actually open. I'm worried about predators. Has anything attempted to breech your coop door?

No, never had any issues. A bottom. Are should have come with the unit to keep predators from lifting the door. They would have to get between the bottom bar and door to do it. Not easy.

I’ll think you’ll be please. The hardest part is getting everything adjusted and dialed in. Once you get it right, it works well

Hi there, I have had one of these units for 13 months. It stopped working When I checked it , it was full of condensation. I took the front cover off and replaced the batteries, and cleaned out the condensate. I have left it to dry out for several days, the red light is on and nothing works. I have talked to Happy Henhouse with really no result. I feel the condensate has stuffed the circuitry, and I'm up for a new one. It's not something I anticipated having to replace every year.

There is a rubber gasket around the cover. I wonder if maybe you lost it, or it was sealed correctly. I never had any issues with mine collecting moisture.

I like the door but i did not make a great knot and it came loose and i now cant get slack for enough string to re tie it. I guess ill have to call the guy also because i cant simply wind it with my thumb as you say it doesnt move at all. Great vid though i just wish i had a better knot would have saved me a lot of expletives and such lol.

I literally just pushes the motor wheel to unwind the string. Have you tried that? If not, maybe the string had bound or wrapped around something.

I Am A Fixer yeah I called the guy he said with the newer motor they sometimes won’t turn by hand but we got it sorted just had to move the sensor to the left and use the dark sharpie cap trick. I had tried that but not at the same time as holding that spring tension sensor to the left. He said he might update the instructions in the future. Thanks for the reply though.
