It is interesting how you guys keep mentioning the concern of new players “getting coached out of” promising traits they have, which is definitely worthy of another podcast conversation later on, because it might be indicative of what’s best for the coaching staff going forward, especially if the team starts getting younger next year.

You’ll know they’re serious about moving on with the youth when they send Hakstol packing. A coach who can handle young players is Francis’s most critical decision

Shane needs reps so you think he should start on the fourth line and not move up unless he’s obviously better than the vets? And you don’t think that would push him toward “don’t make mistakes” over “take risks and push for offense”? I don’t even know what Shane would do in that situation to get more ice time - we have ample evidence that Hakstol doesn’t value scoring unless it’s accompanied by defense and will scratch players if they don’t meet his standards there.
It’s also not like he started on the 4th line in CV this year. I’m not sure why you want them to use the same development path for Shane that they used for Kartye, and Kartye hasn’t worked his way off the 4th line in the NHL except when circumstances require it. I sincerely hope we have higher aspirations for Shane.
I recognize that this is moot because he was with Schwartz and Eberle in practice but I don’t understand your reasoning at all.

It's not about him moving up "unless he's better than the vet's" it's about getting him to play as hard as we know he can. I will admit I didn't argue the point as strongly as I wanted too because I was a little nervous about putting this out there before we saw him play, but, the one time we've seen him start off motivated and hungry in a new situation was when he was in the bottom six last year in CV late in the season.
I didn't want to have people saying things about his effort level so I didn't want to bring it up, but it is true that when he's been in better spots, he doesn't push it. Windsor, WJC and definitely the NHL. He plays with an edge when he's down the lineup. I want him to know he can do that at the NHL level and if the 5 or so games that don't mean anything here are the time for him to learn that so he hits the ground running in the top 6 next year, so be it.
It would match what worked for him in CV too, start lower for the late season/playoffs and then play well in the top 6 at the start of this year. I truly think it is the best path for him/his mental make-up specifically. -Dylan

Shane should be replacing Wennberg on the 2nd line. Looks like he is in tonight’s lineup thankfully. He doesn’t belong in the bottom six. I’d also love for him to be Calder eligible, if not just for the national storyline. Even if he didn’t win it, if he could be a finalist, it’d be great for his self-confidence and be a massive f u to all the nay sayers.

The reference again to some of the players laughing after the Arizona defeat feels like another low blow......god forbid they make a joke after - haven't you ever had a rubbish day & laughed at how bad it was?! And then, they bring up the new guys, inc Shane Wright that you have been constantly banging on about for weeks & then moan about the line he's on & who he's with!! I was excited to see him play with the Kraken & who he would have chemistry with after the success with the kid line, but this kinda made me feel meh about it...... I've been watching you guys for a few months but not really commented as I feel it's not an overly 'open' or welcoming community for new members esp those that dont send multiple super chats/are Patreons/on the discord.......its a shame as I do like RJ's reports post game from CPA & was hoping you got your major frustrations over the playoffs out your system but listening to you rag on basically every player, is draining for me so i truly hope no player hears it! Look, you guys clearly have a lot of knowledge & experience, etc, would be nice to see some of that being put toward more positive discussions.....

@BrittleGlory at no point did I say MY enjoyment of the Kraken was effected.....nor did i say criticism should be withheld... anyway, thank you for confirming I was right to not feel comfortable commenting before & for making me feel so welcome by the ECH community by telling me the content 'isnt for me' & I should 'move on'.....
