You got the concept right! 😊👏Think of NCT like a school basically. This school has 26 members and every member has an extra curricular club they’re in. NCT 127 is the more experimental group and they’re the more international one as they often promote as such. NCT Wish is the Japanese group and promote mainly in Japan + Korea (it also has some of the new and younger members in NCT). NCT Dream used to be the group with the youngest member in the team thus their past youthful discography, however as the members are grown now they’re music is becoming more “mature” but still having that youthful/Dream vibe to it. WayV is the Chinese group, they mainly promote in China and Korea. NCT DOJAEJUNG are 3 members from NCT 127 who just started their own little group lol (they’re still in NCT 127). NCT U is a ROTATIONAL unit, anyone from any NCT unit can get together here and make a song together, not the entirety of NCT, but just if you fit the concept of the song and the song itself and that’s how they usually form, it differs with each release.
Also! You guys reacted to RIIZE before, Shotaro and Sungchan were first introduced in NCT before joining RIIZE so you’ll be seeing them in a few videos (“Make A Wish”, “90s Love”, “Misfit”, “Beautiful”, “Resonance”) if you continue reacting to NCT lol.
So, using the idea that NCT is a “school”
NCT 127 = Experimental/more international “club”
WayV = Chinese club
NCT Wish = Japanese club
NCT Dream = A Club formed when they were juniors but have stuck together since
NCT U = members from different clubs get together here
NCT DOJAEJUNG = Members from NCT 127 Doyoung, Jaehyun and Jungwoo, having their own mini club.
And when they all get together, like all 26 members, it’s then called NCT (year of release, like the year of yearbook since we’re using the school ideology). So far they’ve done it in 2018, 2021, 2023, so it’s NCT 2018, NCT 2021, NCT 2023.

The one who came in with the flow and the visuals is Taeyong, the leader (the short platinum blonde/White hair) he’s NCT 127’s leader and the WHOLE of NCT’s leader as well. He’s also the “ace”, he’s their centre and main dancer, he’s also choreographed and produced and written stuff for the group before and he sings lol, they’re all very talented and have done a lot of side quests (they’re acted in movies along with being in the fashion world). BTW the first rapper that yall liked is Mark, hes their main rapper, main dancer and he’s also in Dream (and is their leader) and SuperM (SM’s super group that had their best + popular male idols). And lol fun fact he’s from Canada, NCT is also pretty international when it comes to their members and where they’re from. The guy in the suit who looked like a mob boss is Jaehyun lol 😂 he’s one of their singers, he’s also a sub rapper and a lead dancer, he’s one of their visuals as well. The black hair one with the nice voice is Doyoung who’s one of their main vocalists, along with the one who hit the high note before the dance break (short blonde hair) is Taeil. If you’re interested in knowing their positions + how it works, a guide video is pretty helpful. But in terms of part distribution producers do often give them parts. NCT U was the first unit that debuted then it was NCT 127, NCT Dream, WayV and recently NCT Wish. Haechan and Mark are in 2 units and honestly they’re ALWAYS busy😭

haha u guys guessed right!Let me tell u a few things about NCT. currently the units that exist are NCT 127, NCT dream ,NCT U ,NCT wish (this unit is the newest one), another unit which is a Chinese one Is WAYV , even tho it doesn’t have NCT in it ,its only because of Chinas laws. There’s another unit called NCT DOJAEJUNG which I do reccomend to watch out for cause they got stupidly good songs even if they only have 1 mini album out. For other information I can say Taeyong who is currently serving in the army is THE leader of the whole NCT,no matter the unit he leads ,also about all the unit grouping together that is true ,the unit where this happens is NCT u ,in NCT u some from different FIXED units (fixed units are units that have fixed members :NCT 127,dream,wish and dojaejung) NCT U although it’s not a fixed member group it’s amazing,also where all of them group together it’s usually called the year it happens by example NCT 2020 ‘resonance’ where it’s a bunch of mixed songs from NCT u and they all come in together dancing

But this is honestly so helpful. 🥰💙 I pretty much get everything you’ve said if I’m wrong feel free to correct me. ❤️ their are currently 6 main units 4 of them with NCT in the name : NCT 127, NCT DREAM, NCT U, NCT DOJAEJUNG AND NCT WISH but WAVY is also a NCT group but due to the laws they had to adjust the name. And when the groups do come together to form a super unit they usually call them based. on the year that they are formed. Taeyong is indeed an ACE; he is the main rapper, main dancer, sub-vocalist, center, visual, and face of the group. He is the leader of both NCT 127 and NCT as a whole. He choreographs, writes and composes music, and is generally known as an idea bank as he always adds details to MV concepts, costumes, choreo, etc. He is also a soloist. I'll recommend Taeyong's "Shalala" and NCT U's "7th Sense" (1st ever NCT song and best debut in Kpop) for your next reactions. Thanks!

SM Entertainment actually hired a movie fight trainer and martial arts coach to teach the members of NCT-127 how to do the kicks, punches and use the nunchucks, etc. for their "Kick It" MV. You will be even more impressed when you see how much work and detail went into this MV.
This might even help you to get to know the members better because they will use their names in the English subs when the members do the behind-the-scenes interviews while filming.
In the "Kick It" MV there are 9 members -- *Taeyong (leader of all of NCT, main rapper and dancer), Taeil (main vocalist), *Johnny (lead vocalist and sub-rapper), Yuta (lead vocalist), Doyoung (main vocalist), *Jaehyun (main vocalist and sub-rapper), Jungwoo (main vocalist), *Mark (main rapper and dancer) and Haechan (main vocalist).
It's interesting how most people don't get all the references to Bruce Lee in "Kick It" (Chinese/Korean title "Hero"), even though everything is based on being like Bruce Lee -- hence why they say Bruce Lee like a hundred times in the song LOL -- and black and yellow are Bruce Lee's signature colors -- so, that is why "Kick It" used those colors. (Many say this MV reminds them of the Movie "Kill Bill," without realizing that movie is based on Bruce Lee-style action movies and is sort of a homage to Bruce Lee.) As you can see, part of the choreography where they rub their thumb on the side of their nose is done because it's a signature Bruce Lee move. Bruce Lee is a Chinese action hero, so even though this is one of the Korean sub-units of NCT, those are Chinese characters you see on the signs in the MV, etc.
NCT -- which stands for Neo (a pop culture term that means new/original) Culture Technology -- currently has 26 members. And the group right now as a whole has 5 sub-units -- NCT-U, NCT-127, NCT-Dream, WayV and NCT-WISH.
Therefore, their style is meant to be new and original with elements that embrace different cultures and technologies to create their sound. What you are struggling to put into words and categorize is just called NCT-style, they don't really have a traditional music style that you can attach to them.
And, switching up the beat and style of the song in the middle of the song is pretty much how the majority of NCT songs are structured, as well as SM Entertainment's songs in general. It's kind of SM's signature style. You will hear that same thing happen in a lot of the songs you listen to from SM.
NCT-127 is NCT's second sub-unit, which debuted in July 2016. NCT-127 currently has 9 or 10 members. This group is more of a fixed unit, so the member lineup stays the same most of the time. The 127 in this unit's name stands for the longitude coordinates of Seoul, South Korea, on a map of the world, which means it's 127's job to represent Seoul -- the birthplace of Kpop -- around the world.
NCT is one of the most internationally diverse groups in all of Kpop. The members as a whole represent 8 different countries and they speak 7 or 8 different languages. For example, there are 11 native Korean members (*Taeyong, Doyoung, Taeil, Haechan, *Jaehyun, Jeno, Jaemin, Jisung, Jungwoo, and new members Sion and Daeyoung), *Mark is Korean-Canadian, *Johnny is Korean-American (from Chicago), 5 Japanese members (Yuta and new members Riku, Yushi, Ryo and Sakuya), *Ten is Thai, *YangYang is Taiwanese but he grew up in Germany, Hendery is Chinese from Macau (China) and 5 mainland Chinese members (WinWin, Kun, Xiaojun, Renjun and Chenle). However, they all live and work in Korea, so everyone speaks Korean fluently. Plus, many members have attended international schools or lived abroad, so there are several members who are also *fluent in English, on top of speaking 2 or more other languages.
NCT is a group that is constantly changing and rearranging its members and sound and we never know quite what to expect from them. With a concept that allows the members to rotate between sub-units, changing, adding and subtracting members depending on the concept and style of the group or song, you should never expect the same thing from them. You are better off always expecting something new, that somehow, also ends up sounding very much like NCT. LOL
SM Entertainment is known for having some of the best dancers and singers in the industry. That is just a fact about the type of people SM selects to be a part of its company. You can't be an SM artist without having amazing singing and dance skills. That is why the company has gained the reputation as the vocal powerhouse of the industry, who also happens to have some of the industry's top dancers. SM is an expert at finding and developing the best singers and dancers in Kpop.

SM is the company that founded the Kpop industry with the very first Kpop idol group H.O.T. (High-five Of Teenager) back in 1996, and it's now one of the top entertainment companies around the world. The company spares no expense when it comes to their videos, stages or concerts, etc. SM is one of the most innovative and trendsetting companies in Korea.
NCT is SM's attempt at taking over the music industry around the world. SM's original goal was to eventually have NCT sub-units representing every major city in every country in the world. It has always been SM's plan to have world domination. That is why right now NCT-127 is the group that SM is using to try and get their foothold in the U.S. music market with all English versions of song like "Regular" and "Highway to Heaven" and collaborations with American artists such as Jason Derulo, as well as U.S. concert tours and promotional tours with the American media, etc., WayV produces songs in Mandarin and English and promotes in China and NCT-WISH is NCT's Japanese sub-unit that that produces songs in Korean and Japanese.
So, this year is NCT's 8th anniversary, but debut dates are different for any number of members because it all depends on when they were added to the group. And many of the members of NCT actually became recognized by fans even before debut because they were part of SM's pre-debut group project called SMRookies (or the new members who were part of a reality survival show called LASTART), so SM did activities with several of the members before they debuted.

NCT - 26 members total
NCT 127 - 9 members, fixed unit, number of members won’t change.
NCT U- rotational units. Numbers of members fluctuate depending on song.
NCT Dream- fixed unit, usually more bright youthful songs.
WayV - Chinese unit, also fixed. Songs in Manadrin and English.
NCT Wish- Japanese Unit, fixed unit.
NCT Doejaejung- fixed unit made up of members Doyoung, Jaehyun and Jungwoo.
NCT U was the first unit to debut with the 7th sense. NCT 127 debuted next with Fire Truck. All units tour separately.

Guide about NCT group (read this full to understand):-
NCT (Neo Culture Technology) is a kpop boy group under SM entertainment (one of the Big4 kpop companies in Korea) that debuted in 2016 .They earlier had a concept of adding new members each year until their agency had stopped it in 2023. So, currently they have 26 members.
The thing about NCT music is that they are experimental in general (NEO is their music genre) which means most of their songs are unique which can have mixed opinions. Some of their songs will grow on you if you give them more listens.
The whole NCT group is broken down into different individual smaller groups which we refer them as 'subunits'. There are six NCT subunits/subgroups explained below :-
1) NCT 127 2) NCT DREAM
3) WAYV 4) NCT DJJ
5) NCT WISH 6) NCT U
1) NCT 127 [one two seven] => fixed unit that debuted in 2016 , currently having 9 members (debuted with 7 then added 2 members in 2017 and one more in 2018. After 2018, one member left to join another NCT subunit called 'WAYV'). The '127' represents the longitude of Seoul, South Korea where kpop is originated. This is the main unit of NCT that start from Seoul to all over the world.
2) NCT DREAM => fixed unit with 7 members (5 members + 2 youngest members from NCT 127) debuted in 2016 after NCT 127. They earlier had a graduation concept where members should leave the unit after they turn 20 but later their agency got rid of it in 2020. Their songs were youthful & bubbly from their debut era. Now, the members have grown up and their songs also had matured.
3) WAYV [We Are Your Vision] => fixed unit currently having 6 members (were 7 earlier until one member left due to a scandal) debuted in 2019. They are the Chinese unit of NCT and their songs are in Mandarin/Chinese and mainly promoted in China (considered as Cpop). Their original unit name was supposed to be 'NCT VISION' but it was changed to 'WAYV' due to political issues b/w Korea & China.
4) NCT DJJ => The trio subunit consisting of members who were in NCT 127 & debuted in 2023. DJJ stands for DoJaeJung which are the first syllables of the names of members Doyoung, Jaehyun and Jungwoo from NCT 127.
5) NCT WISH => The last and final fixed subunit of NCT having 6 members where the members were selected through a survival show called 'NCT Universe: Lastart' in 2023. They are the Japanese subunit of NCT and will be promoting in Japan. They have a pre release single released last year called 'Hands Up'. Their official name is now 'NCT WISH' (Earlier, it was NCT New Team) and they debuted on February 2024 with 'Wish' .
6) NCT U [United] => The first NCT unit that debuted in 2016 before NCT 127 & NCT DREAM. NCT U is the rotational unit of NCT where any member of NCT can be a part of it. There are no fixed members in this unit meaning the member lineup can change according to the songs. The lineup is chosen randomly based on the concept of the song. (Simply put, it is a mix&match/collaborative NCT unit).
Also, there were certain NCT projects/albums where all members unite as a whole to participate ( without random selection like in NCT U). These NCT projects are explained below:
1) NCT 2018 Empathy => This was formed in 2018 when NCT had 18 members. Released a performance MV called 'Black on Black' on which all 18 members performed.
2) NCT 2020 Resonance => This was formed in 2020 when NCT became 23 members. Released an MV called 'Resonance' which is like a mashup of few songs of NCT U in this whole album.
3) NCT 2021 Universe => This was formed in 2021 where 21 members participated ( 2 members were inactive during this time). Released an MV called 'Beautiful' with all members.
4) NCT 2023 Golden Age => This was their recent project in 2023 where 20 members participated .During this time few things happened:- NCT had stopped their member expansion concept, 2 members left to join another SM boy group called 'RIIZE', 1 member left NCT due to severe scandal. Released an MV called 'Golden Age' with 20 members. (During this project, NCT Wish had already been formed but they didn't participate in this album).

NCT is an ambitious experimental boy group under SM entertainment. (one of the big 3 kpop companies) The first NCT Unit to debut was NCTU in 2016. NCTU is a ROTATIONAL unit, meaning songs can have any combination of NCT members depending on who fits the song, they can have 9 members of just 2- anything is possible.
Next was NCT127, a FIXED unit that currently has 9 members that also debuted in 2016.
Then was NCTDream, originally composed of the youngest NCT members, they were marketed towards a younger audience. They debuted in 2016 and a originally had a "graduation concept" where the members would graduate from dream once they turned the legal adult age (19 in Korea) HOWEVER Dream's 7 member line up was so greatly beloved and popular in Korea that the label decided to ABOLISH the graduation concept and made dream a FIXED 7 MEMBER unit. (The two youngest members of 127 are also in Dream)
In 2018, NCT released a FULL GROUP album- at the time they had a total of 18 members.
Then in 2019, WayV debuted. They currently have 6 members and are the CHINESE focused subunit of NCT. They're songs are mainly in Mandarin and they promote in China. They are a FIXED unit.
In 2020, 2021, and 2023 they released full group albums with all the members. (usually they only release music in their subunits)
Now in 2024 we have NCTWish, a JAPANESE focused subunit. They are also a FIXED UNIT.
SM has also announced that they will be abolishing NCT's original INFINITE MEMBER CONCEPT, and that Wish will be the LAST subunit.
Which leaves us at 26 members. NCT127, NCTDream, WayV , and NCTWish are a!l fixed units with their own songs, albums, and content. NCTU is a rotational unit that can have any combination of members. There IS also nct DJJ (with the members Doyoung, Jaehyun, and Jungwoo- who are a fixed unit but were created due to a tradition of 3 member subunits from SM entertainment. Like EXO's "EXO-CBX" and Girl'sGeneration/SNSD's "TTS". All the members in NCT-DJJ are also in 127)(Fun fact, two members of RIIZE were initially added to NCT during NCT2020 and took part in NCTU activities until in 2023 they were pulled from NCT and debuted in SM's new boy group- RIIZE. Also WayV originally debuted as a 7 member unit but one member has LEFT NCT)

NCT or NEO CULTURE TECHNOLOGY - the brand name/mark and they're 26 members in total. They're known for having a experimental music. They also have these NCT 2018, NCT 2021, and NCT 2023 where all the members of the group are performing together.
THE UNITS:
NCT 127 - composed of 9 members

NCT 2020 is another group project where all the members in nct come together and create a song. They have BLACK ON BLACK by NCT 2018, RESONANCE by NCT 2020, BEAUTIFUL by NCT 2021 and recently they had GOLDEN AGE by NCT 2023. NCT stands for NEO CULTURE TECHNOLOGY and NCT have a UNLIMITED number of members which means they aren't a fixed group. NCT 127 is a fixed unit and stands for the longitude of Seoul meaning they wanna spread their music from Seoul Korea to the world. NCT U stands for NCT united which means that do not have strict lineup instead if any of the members suit a song they will be apart of that song. NCT DREAM is mainly targeted to the younger fans and had a graduation system where if a member turns 20 they would departure from NCT DREAM but would still be apart of NCT. MARK a member of NCT 127, NCT U and NCT DREAM turned 20 so he had to leave NCT DREAM which is why you won't see him in some songs. But they got rid of the graduation system which meant mark would be back making NCT DREAM a fixed unit with 7 member. Also in NCT DREAM a member called JAEMIN was on hiatus after being diagnosed with herniated disc injury in late 2016. Later the company revealed that he will be withdrawing from promotional activities. BUT fortunately he came back durning 'GO' ERA. WAYV is a Chinese group that is part of NCT but due to political issues between china and Korea they couldn't use the name NCT. NCT DOJAEJUNG is a group consisting 3 members DOYOUNG JAEHYUN JUNGWOO. NCT is my ult group💚 They have a total of 26 members now! They debuted gradually, and they have 5 units now, "U, 127, Dream, WayV, and Wish". Also, NCT 127 have another sub-group which is NCT DoJaeJung. Their group system is understandably confusing for someone who is just learning about them, but once you get the hang of it, you'll realize they have a unique and really cool concept. Lee Sooman (their CEO then) really is a revolutioner, lmao.
Fun fact, Shotaro and Sungchan from RIIZE used to be a member of NCT U, and was supposed to debut in the Japanese unit (which is NCT Wish now).

There are six sub-units that make up NCT. Currently there are 26 members. The leader of 127 is TaeYong Seoul SK. You may have a preference (depending on your musical tastes) for one unit more than another, but there is not a "best unit" IMO, NCT as a whole are all talented.
NCT U (United) Debut - April 9th, 2016 - is the 1st sub-unit of NCT. NCT U does not have fixed members. The lineup changes depending on who fits the song/concept/comeback. Baggy Jeans is the newest NCT U track, with the original debut members. Debut song -The Seventh Sense.

Okay, small & understandable introduction to NCT:
NCT has 26 members and is divided into units
Fixed units that work as if they were normal kpop groups:
- NCT 127: 9 members
- NCT dream: 7 members (Mark and Haechan are in both 127 and dream!!!)
- WayV: the chinese unit of nct, 6 members
- NCT wish: the japanese unit, they debuted this year and are the very last nct unit to be introduced, 6 members
Special units:
- NCT U: "U" stands for united, it means that any of the 26 members can be in this unit it just depends on who fits the song/concept the best! So we always have different number of members and different combinations between all 26 members. This unit is mostly only used for "full group" comebacks (I'll explain in this in just a second)
- NCT Dojaejung: a trio unit composed of 3 members from nct 127 (Doyoung, Jaehyun and Jungwoo), they have so fare a mini album called "Perfume"
Full group comebacks:
The whole of NCT have once a year or once every two years a full group comeback. This means that once a year all 26 members come together to do an album.
This album consists of songs from all units AND NCT U songs.
We've had so far:
- NCT 2018 "Empathy": at the time NCT only had 18 members
- NCT 2020 "Resonance": at the time NCT had 23 members
- NCT 2021 "Universe": at the time NCT had 23 members but 2 members didn't participate (Winwin was busy with other schedules and Lucas was on a break due to some serious allegations which later on led to him leaving the group in 2023)
- NCT 2023 "Golden Age": at the time NCT had 20 members. In 2023 3 members left the group: Lucas (as I said before), and Shotaro and Sungchan who were move to another group called Riize (Riize is NOT an nct unit, it's a completely different group and you guys already reacted to them!)
NCT 2023 "Golden Age" was before NCT Wish debuted (as I said, they debuted in 2024) so now we have 6 new member from wish: 20 + 6 = 26 total NCT members!
ALSO, each unit has it's own leader and we also have a collective leader of the whole of NCT:
- Taeyong: he is the leader of NCT as a whole, and of NCT 127 ( he's this guy with white hair, one of the rappers: 3:52 8:40 9:40 and at 11:47 the guy dancing in the middle )
- Mark: NCT Dream leader (as I said at the beginning, he's in both 127 and dream, he's this guy, the other rapper: 8:29 9:47 )

I actually got into K-pop last year due to a random listen to NCT 127! You'll find that SM is known for vocals, visuals and choreo / dancing, as well as high quality music and video production too.
The largest group in K-pop is Seventeen, I believe, at 13 members (NCT and TripleS function alike with subunits that together make them whole), other groups that follow with 12 members are EXO, Treasure, The Boyz, etc.
We honestly just want to say a big big thank you 🥰 for taking the time to break that down for us and for teaching us more about NCT and the NCT system. ❤️This was beautiful written and easy to follow as you explained it so thoroughly. I can tell you are a true supporter of NCT and it’s beautiful to see. ☺️. Two RIIZE members Sungchan & Shotaro are former NCT members who were moved from NCT literally going thru the whole process of debuting them only to have them put with a new group just as they were getting settled with NCT. *NCT has a total of 26 members that can be rotated within NCT U mini units depending on the comeback concept and song because from minimal knowledge I think NCT subunits are now all fixed except for NCTU and NCT DREAM (fixed rotational among within the unit).*
