One of the most incredible moments in pro cycling ever. It is very rare to see green and yellow jersey to sprint together. Sagan, Froome, Bodnar, Thomas. Thank you for this show!
This is an all-time epic moment because it is so rare. Usually someone in Sagan's position here wouldn't want the Yellow Jersey to come along. It makes the other GC teams chase like mad, which usually means the Green Jersey would have zero chance of getting away. But this is Chris Froome and G, two riduculously good TT guys. So good that having two of them on your side slightly outweighs the fact that the whole peleton would be chasing. Even then their chance isn't super good. But Cavs having a mechanical means there is one less sprint team chasing. Alaphilippe dropping made QuickStep stop chasing for a moment. The yound Nairoman still had no clue what he was doing in crosswinds. All these things involving all these all-time greats had to come together for this to happen.
"Froome let Sagan" without discrediting the greatest Grand Tour rider of the last two decades.. he didn't "let" Peter Sagan win any any singular ounce of a form.. Sagan wins a sprint vs froome with one leg, in first gear..
Sagan being ..well him. Peak Froome , G and all his pursuit prowess and Bodnar the brute. All the gradients within their collective power curves. Amazing to see.
riding more than 50km/h frontwind at the end of a 200km stage and looking more relax than me watching this video in my plain, a lot of people gave up on Sagan but legends never die! don't uderestimate him
Sagan, Thomas and Froome in their prime. You're not catching that group. And as many of the commenters have said, it was dramatic enough without having to have that horrid music laid over the top of the video.
Not a Sagan vs Froome. They were working together and happy to do so. Sagan is perfect in a small group break and can out sprint everyone in that group for the win. Froome gains time on all GC contenders. A win-win. Sagan knows if they have a lead Sky will need to pull in the last 1km while he can sit on and win the sprint. Early in the break Sagan is happy to work hard to make the break stick for this reason. Froome simply wants as much time as possible and similarly will work to death to make the break stick. This is a highly motivated break and it was not coming back given its strength.
Not really working together, both are taking advantage of the other ones strength and need to be in the break to win points (Sagan) or gain time (Froome). Neither cyclist is going to slow down and help the other if one of them shows any sign of weakness as both have a wingman.
Not that there was ever a doubt, Froome knew he wasn't beating Sagan to the line, but the effort Sagan had to give to beat him was laughable. He stood up, gave about 50% effort and went right by him. Meanwhile, Thomas fell apart well short having given everything in support of his then leader.
I think Sagan would have left Bodnar win, but that would have meant to let off a bit, which Froome did not really want, as he sought to gain as many seconds as possible, therefore he had to put up a sprint, and then, well, Sagan thought if Bodnar cannot have it [which he did deserve], then he might as well. Anyway, that nod of Froome was genius, like: yea, fcuk yea, let's do it'
The commentators in cycling are brilliant. Why would you want to drown them out with this crappy music? Just skipped through it as the music was so annoying.
So many people debating if Froome ‘let’ Sagan win or Sagan beat Froome in a sprint. It is very obvious that Froome never even thought about contesting the stage win. When Thomas peeled off, Froome was leading the rest of the pack with 500m left at max effort. What kind of sprint strategy would that be? All he cared about the time. He sprinted when Sagan opened up because he doesn’t want to be gapped by Sagan that’s all. Sagan was very kindly doing Froome a favour by trying to get maybe one extra second out over the peloton.
Sagan has said that he was happy to let Bodnar win, Froome did not know this, so when Froome sprinted Sagan was not letting him win the stage, they are still all friends...
@@tonynorris9139 Anyone wondering if Froome let Sagan win, knows nothing about pro cycling! Froome could never beat Sagan in a sprint. Froome's sprint at the end was with the aim of at least second place - meaning bonus seconds PLUS as many seconds gap as possible between him and the peloton. After all, that was the whole point of him joining the breakaway - to gain time on his GC rivals.
@@paul_rider I paraphrased Sagan from an interview he gave - read what I wrote. Your conceit and arrogance are astonishing. I said nothing about Froome letting Sagan win.
Oh absolutely. If "Prime Sagan" had decided to go all out on a shortish TdF time trial at any point, he probably could have posted some top-10 finishes. At one point, he had the best 200m, 3km and 5km power in the Peloton. But for Sagan, time trial days are basically rest days.
All the wankers here, in the Merkcx era you would green and yellow in the sprint often, Eddy could sprint with the best, and often did, sometimes winning sprint finishes, he was all these rolled into one Superman!
yellow cyclist is a climber, he dont hve energy anymore to sprint with sagan but all he wanted is more time to his gc instead of a stage win because he clearly cant outsprint sagan. Sagan that time is just unbeatable

The crosswind made it possible--and maybe the other teams' strongmen had worked too hard on the stage already protecting their leaders from the wind, and in this last 10k maybe had to stay near their leaders to keep them in the peloton rather than go to the front and maximize the chase.
This is NOT Froome vs Sagan , the whole point is Froome and Sagan working as a team. It's a brilliant clip , if it weren't for the crap music , we could hear the excellent commentary and non cyclists would not be misled by your title
They are NOT working as a team, both are taking advantage of the other ones strength and position to be in the break to win points (Sagan) or gain time (Froome). Neither cyclist is going to slow down to help/work with the other if one of them shows any sign of weakness, as both of them have a teammate with them to do this.

Simply Amazing! Peter you make the sport so much exciting! Great race , well done.

Watch this once every few months to remind me of the greatness of Sagan and Froome
