It's software. Not too sure on the specifics but basically the entire shot is zoomed in a little and the software follows his face but since the shot is zoomed in so much you never see the edges of the shot. IdubbzTV does it a lot in his videos

Kendrick does it like no other. His approach is so well thought. Thinking of the context/story of the album. The vibe. The true lyricism, the visuals for a video and a million other things. He knows how to make everything become more and more special the more you pay attention to it
