Which Pokémon Postgame would Rank Best in the Series?

  • Pokémon games are often filled with wonder, and that can even spill over into when the game is officially done, leaving us with the "postgame." However these extra bits of life squeezed into the games can vary wildly in how fun or relevant they are, so let's rank every version of the Pokémon postgame across the years and see where they've really made it an effort and where they kind of forgot to include anything...

    HG/SS is the gold standard for what postgame in the pokemon series could be. Its depressing to see how after all these years we still havent seen a region be added into a postgame again, or fighting past protagonists as a final boss. Sinnoh being linked with Johto would've been a perfect time for that.

    • @emperorcubone
      @emperorcubone  Před 11 měsíci +131

      True, but you could never JUST go back to Johto. If a Sinnoh game let you wander from Cianwood to Blackthorn people would ask "Why couldn't we go to Kanto!?" so maybe some other region one day. Perhaps visiting Alola in the Unova remakes, since 'Mercia?

    B&W2's postgame is probably the most enjoyable for me. Rematching significant characters like Cynthia, N, Hugh, Colress, former rivals Cheren & Bianca? Check. A side activity in Pokestar studios that lets u make wacky & fun movies (& depending on ur performance can have different endings)? Check. Combat gaunlets (of which there're 4 of 'em in Pwt, subway, institute & white tree/black tower)? Double check. It just provides close to everything what I want & do after credits roll. Not to mention all the optional content available during the main game that u may have forgotten to do or skipped out on.

    I spent most of my free time in ORAS's postgame when I was in high school. It was just so good. That was the only game I ever tried to complete to Pokedex in. The DexNav made it super easy, soaring was awesome and the best way to fly, the legendary encounters were awesome, and I even tried my hand at competitive battling because of all the experience I kept gaining. The Delta episode however, was the best part of the whole thing. I don't really care much for Zinnia, but man I appreciate that she has a story for you to explore. Also that little bit with Looker at the Battle Resort foreshadowing Sun and Moon was really cool. Hoenn has always been my favorite region, ever since I first played Emerald. I really wish that we did get a Delta Emerald, but either way ORAS - and even gen 6 as a whole - was a special time for me despite everyone's criticism. @Compucles Před 11 měsíci +1

      Most people admit that US/UM are clearly the better games. It's just that regular S/M came out first, while the Ultra versions aren't different enough from the original versions for most players who already bought S/M to then "double-dip" on the new releases, even compared to Yellow, Emerald, Platinum, and maybe even Crystal. Releasing them as a pair of updated games instead of a single third version also didn't help with the marketing.
      Personally, I would've done the same had I not been lucky enough to hold off on my purchase of a Gen 7 game until after the Ultra versions had been announced.

    I feel Emerald and the battle frontier should be higher. They offer you challenges in different ways. You had the pyramid which was an edurance run, making you value moves to keep you healthy more and attacks with les power but more pp. The battle factory you had to be tactical and use what you were offered in rental pokemon, requiring of you a good understanding of pokemon and their stats and what you were lacking and what could help going forward. I will admit the others were more standard affairs, where you could win with regular tactics, but I've not come across much in the series that challenges me in a way as removed from regular play or competative play as the frontier.
    Plus there are all the contests, another way to make you build and riase pokemon in a different way, using different moves and synergies. And all the secret bases for fun and ways to express yourself.
    Emerald may be weaker in terms of postagme story and catching and legendaries, but they never were that appealing to me. You find the legend, you do that status move, you weaken it, then you sit there throwing ball after ball until it works, then move onto the next

    I’ve actually never been able to beat my copy of Soul Silver before. It’s a shame I’ve missed out on such an amazing postgame.
    Since the man himself was flabbergasted, I shall explain myself. I have always chose Meganium, which puts me at an immediate disadvantage. After that I always think I have a pretty balanced team, but I always end up being roadblocked by Claire, then completely stonewalled by the elite 4 after the fact. Now I am no Pokémon novice. I don't typically play through post-games; hard enough finding the time to complete the main story of games as it is, especially RPGs (Pokémon is an exception thanks to it's shorter length and less cutscenes). So it is funny to me hearing the... discourse that takes place over the concept of post-games for the Pokémon series.
    2:06 - The Master Trainer was a distinct concept, but yeah, a right chore to train up all those Pokémon. The key problem with Let's Go is that it has no excuse for it's sparse post-game because it could have taken the content from Fire Red/Leaf Green's post-game content at the very least.
    2:46 - That is how I actually experienced the Isle of Armor. My brother and I ended up doing all of it before we even took on the first Gym. Well, except the Kubfu part. I have no interest in Legendaries.
    4:21 - X and Y was one of the few post-games I did... or at least, the Looker missions. Short, bit of an odd ending but a fun idea.
    7:03 - I've warmed up to Fire Red/Leaf Green more over the years but I'm still annoyed at their arbitrary locking of newly made evolutions behind the post-game. Golbat just being unable to evolve into Crobat for unknown reasons until you got the National Dex was baffling. Sevil Islands was nice concept, particularly for giving Moltres a place of it's own and teasing Archer for his Gold/Silver role.
    8:01 - Black and White is another of the very few post-games I ever did. The new areas were nice to run through, particularly as a means to finally use my Volcarona (went through the entire League with it as a Larvesta because of it's high evolution level), though I was disappointed you didn't get to fight the sages.
    9:02 - Neat, Pokémoa artwork. I did play a fair bit of Pokémon Emerald's post-game. A child me attempted the various facilities of the Battle Frontier many a time with little success. I think won maybe one or two of the areas. I also agree that I don't quite get the hype for it; I'd rather go adventuring through a new area with my actual team and seeing them grow further. That said, the new characters were neat.
    12:01 - Gold and Silver's Kanto is one of those "fun in concept, poor in execution" ideas. Johto's horrible level curve rears it's ugly head here and makes it more annoying than exciting. It is cool to see how Kanto has changed but the gameplay portion is where it's let down.
    14:57 - Oooh, I can see this being a controversial placement on this list. Omega Ruby/Alpha Sapphire was the first time I heard folks complain about Pokémon post-game. I can see your points here, but a big emphasis on a lot of this post-game is catching new Pokémon... which given I'd have beaten the league at this point, I would already my full team of six pretty solidly set.

    Okay this might just be me or just be pointless, but where do you consider the latest games with DLC in regards to being post game. I know plenty dont like the idea, but it is cheaper than getting a third version or low quality sequel like the Ultra games. And its usually the content after you complete the main game. Even if you do like I do and make three users to play as all the starters and build new teams from that.

    • @emperorcubone
      @emperorcubone  Před 11 měsíci

      Just because that part of the game in real life came out after most people beat it doesn't make it *official postgame; if you can go there before the credits role I'm counting it in the main game, like the Isle of Armor.
