  • We thought it would be a 'little' excursion into the hills while we killed some time before getting to Puerto Vallarta for Christmas. As it turned out, Mexico 40 (to) and 23 (from) Durango turned out to be rather epic.

Hola Debs and Tom: I follow your adventures periodically and am in envy! Just a little detour from Mazatlan to Durango and back?! It is to go up and down a mountain range! Thank-you for sharing the beautiful route. I admire your enthusiasm and adventurism. I cycled about 600 kms. last summer after we met in Chain Lakes Provincial Park, taking the same route, continuing into the Crowsnest Pass and up the Columbia River Valley to Radium Hot Springs. Then in October, I cycled from Montreal to la Ville de Quebec and then around the bright red autumn blueberry fields of Lac St. Jean. Bon voyage Debs and Tom, to your health and many more wonders cycling! Mike the Bike

Cheers you two! Amazing scenery and worth every pedal stroke! We wished we had gone this route, but instead we were advised it would be best if you stayed on the Toll Road 15D towards Guadalarja. However, as we sat there in Villa Union at the intersection of 40 and 15 we thought long and hard about our route. In the end, we took the advice from a couple local cyclists and stay took 15D. Looking back we both wish we had stuck with our original plans and continued on 40. Anyway... maybe we can return to Matzalan and cycle 40 then. Take care and happy cycling. Looking forward to the next video release from South America. ~Ron & Petra
