  • John Isiah Walton is a New Orleans native and fine artist who earned an associate degree in Fine Arts from Delgado Community College in 2012. He credits his Delgado instructors such as Walter Johnson, for helping him to enhance his talent and prepare for an art career. “My relationship with my instructors during my time here was excellent. They let me use the facilities-even after class was over. They gave me a lot of expert advice on how to execute a work of art or just an idea of how to pursue the idea of having a studio practice outside of school,” Walton said.
Since graduating from Delgado, Walton has had many commissions and completed residences at Macedonia Institute in New York and the Joan Mitchell Center in New Orleans. Walton was the first African American member of the artist collective The Front and is also a founding member of Level Artist Collective. His work has been on exhibit in New Orleans, New York City, Austin, Texas, Los Angeles, North Carolina, and Tokyo. He recently exhibited Code Black 2: The Singularity at the Isaac Delgado Fine Arts Gallery here on campus and hosted an artist talk with Delgado students. Walton discusses his journey in Delgado’s Unstoppable Success video series HERE.
