SafeFill LPG - Best Purchase For Full-time Motorhome & Van Life

  • These safe fill LPG bottles are by far the best purchase I've made for my motorhome, so much cheaper and easier to use than calor gas bottles for my heating, water & cooking. There as simple as "plug-and-play" when it comes to fittings, if you've got calor now, your fittings will be fine as they are. These bottles come in three different sizes, 5KG, 7.5KG & 10KG
    I'm in no way affiliated with SafeFill, I just love the product and what it's done for me.
    SafeFill no longer sell them on their website but a SafeFill dealer sells them on ebay which makes postage a lot easier - ebay.us/kObYvF

    DANGER , DANGER WILL ROBINSON ( for those of old enough to remember Lost in Space ;) ) A key safety requirement is that gas bottles should never be filled above 80% of their max capacity otherwise you run the risk of an explosion and possibly killing yourself (and others) if you don't allow some space at the top of the the cylinder for gas expansion. The bottles in your video do not appear to have any mechanism to determe the 80 % level ? . Gaslow or Gaslit systems etc. do have these safeguards. As a rule of thumb , allow for 2 Litres of LPG (max) per KG (net ) of tank capacity ( empty) . For example , if you have an empty cylinder rated 5KG (net) capacity then no more than 10 Litres ( max) of LPG should be pumped in.

      Market update
      I filled up my Safefill bottle on Friday last week, at Carvers in Wolverhampton. It was just over half full.
      The price has since dropped to an amazing 0.23p per litre.
      It took just over 8 litres he said thats £2.13 pence. Please.
      And he fills it up for you...🔝🆙
      Vat was included at only 5% because this is the domestic rate in fuel not 20% we have to pay on food children's clothing and books etc.
      Safefill system is over delivering, we never go cold in our caravan.

    This might just be the answer to a problem. Ordered an Auto-trail Campervan that was supposed to have a 25 litre underslung tank but they've changed the spec to 2 x 3.9kg calor gas exchangeable bottles. The Safefill 5kg bottles is bigger in height and diameter and if I can fit just one 5 KG bottle in the locker I'll be a happy bunny. If this works for me I'll buy thee a pint.

    I have a safefill in my caravan and I agree with everything you say. I don’t have one of those adapters though and my local LPG station has that type of pump. The first time I used it someohow some gas went into the bottle and thereafter it failed to fill time and again. I ended up having the bottle replaced when actually there was nothing wrong with it, I just needed the extension. I found another garage which worked with a different pump style but now I have seen you use the adapter I will be getting one. Cheers 🙂

    Safefill bottles are very handy for their weight and the level view of gas. Otherwise it's a pain in the *rse, because they have to be unplugged and taken out of the vehicle.
    Furthermore it's a problem to fill them in other country's in Europe where it is not allowed to fill outside a bottle on a LPG station, but only allowed to fixed installation. Per example, in Belgium you only find 1 on 20 stations who allow you to, and probably it has to been done between dark and light if you know what I mean.

    • @TheUrbanMotorhome
      @TheUrbanMotorhome  Před 5 lety

      Hey Chris, yeah I can't really comment on filling them in Europe as I've not made my way over there yet with the motorhome but it's definitely something worth keeping in mind for when I do, cheers mate 👍

      The Urban Motorhome -- Digging a little deeper brings the next up: The bottles sold under the name "Safefill" are by Hexagon Ragasco and are only approved as a refillable transportable gas cylinder and not as a gas tank or gas cylinder. So it's perfectly safe to use them and fill them as you do (transportable), but then you have that idiot (European) law I mentioned.... It's all about the money... Have a wonderfull day, love your channel mate!!

    Its the way to go, I changed to refillable. Calor may be easy to get but at a price for that convenience. I can fill my 2 11Kg bottles for £26, where as 2 13Kg Calor bottle cost well over £80. The difference from yours to mine is, the fill side of mine is permanently plumbed in to a fill point. So I just plug in and fill or top up both bottles together in one go and I don't have to disconnect the pipes, so quicker and no hassle.
    Do you find some garages get a bit touchy about you filling a bottle direct? I've heard they think you're filling a non refillable bottle. Which is not advised due to no 80% cut off valve.
    Stay well, stay safe. Keep up the videos

I have been ringing around for weeks to find someone with any in stock - so people may find it a big problem. I am on a lot of wait lists but eventually found the last two in the shop in Crewe. Do you ever have any problem with filling up LPG at the station forecourt? I have heard that some people had problems getting the pump authorised to fill up a cylinder due to the staff being a bit unsure if it is aloud and safe, just think some are a bit uneducated in the bottles that are designed to be filled with LPG at a service station.

      Agreed, but not the best of ideas if I'm honest for 2 reason.
      1. If calor or the forecourts catch you using the bottle they will at the least not be happy and stop you and at most calor will try and press charges/prosecute for theft as you only renting their bottle. (I know I know 🤣😂)
      2. More importantly for me is the calor bottles don't have a auto stopcock so you can fill the bottle 100% which is a big no no as gas needs room to expand and should only be filled 80% full.
      I'm not preaching, just needed to give the other side of the coin 👍🏻😊😊😊

One quick question I'd live to know how often you fill them up and to see a video of a breakdown of monthly expenses ie fuel, insurance, tax, maintenance, food, lpg ect brilliant honest videos tho. The safe fill bottles are quite expensive to buy though aren't they. I just looked on ebay and they're £212. Mind you, I guess you get your money back pretty quick at that price difference..

    • @TheUrbanMotorhome

    Is it double on first purchase like calor? My work sells calor and it kills me when customers save to by a heater and gas and then realise it’s £40 more on first buy if they don’t have an empty. Come on calor scrap that first empty hire cost. Love your information without drama.

      Thanks Yvon, the bottle from safefill comes empty and that's it, you own it 100% forever, you then go to the petrol station and fill it up, simple as that 😀😀😀

    How long would them 2 bottles last if you were to keep heating on for 10 hrs , showered and cooked every day mate .

    • @TheUrbanMotorhome
      @TheUrbanMotorhome  Před 5 lety +1

      Hi mate, obviously theres loads of varying factors with how much gas is being used but I'd take a guess and say using what you said it should last for 2-3 weeks, but like i say it just depends on how high the heating is and if you had the water heater on just to heat up for the shower and to clean the plates and not full time. Not the best answer but hope it helps mate.

      No, your not allowed to fill calor bottles yourself, they don’t have the automatic cut off and you don’t own the bottle, calor do.
