Luciano: The Messenger Rises Again

  • As you know, Luciano is one of four Jamaican nominees for best Reggae album of 2015 at the Grammys. This however is not the Messengers’ first nomination for the coveted award. In 2002 the messenger was the fastest rising Roots Reggae rocker in the world when his new day VP project earned him his first nomination.
    That Grammy nomination was a shot in the arm for Luciano’s career, for soon after, under the stewardship of Dean Frazer as musical director, and copeland forbes as manager, the Messenger was one of the biggest touring Reggae artistes on the planet. By 2006 he was firmly placed in the upper echelons of Reggae.
    Then came a major pitfall as grievances in his entourage led to the resignations of Forbes, Frazer and some members of his Jah Messenger band.
    Needless to say this cooled the Messenger’s brand and was worsened by a legal bombshell. The sweep over my soul singer was charged with harboring a fugitive in his Kingston home.
    In the last two years or so it appears Jah has really been sweeping over Luciano’s soul as the Messenger rises once again earning a Grammy nomination for his latest album “Zion awake”
    Luciano joins us right now on our OnStage.

    I love this king. Luciano sing from the heart and all the ills of the ghetto. As someone who stays in the township I relate with his music. Just the message is important to I &I

    This interview from almost 10 years ago is currently trending in Ghana because, Luciano, an artist we love and respect on the continent, is perceived here as pooping on Stonebwoy and Shatta Wale 14:00. So much for ONE LOVE 😢

    I have a great great respect from the Messenger note you people are Africa you are just representing the black race outside the music is in our DNA. Jamaica is just the custodian of the reggae music which is the music of the oppressed. A music from the black people (Slaves).

      @duarassul4640 Před 3 lety +1

      @@davidsejour4718 here I don't think luciano called shatta rather he called Stone...
      i dont call it imitating rather i would say music genre has no boundaries and it's for all, and what's wrong in imitating an art perfecting it your way to make ends meet yet still entertaining and bringing joy to ones soul with their voice? We all feed from the labour of those before us and him luciano is victim too because there was reggae before him...
      Besides he said emulate not imitate

    • @davidsejour4718
      @davidsejour4718 Před 3 lety +1

      @@duarassul4640 I see music not just as entertainment but as a weapon to elevate mind and soul. It’s hard for an artist to make both . Therefore I can’t considered Shatta as making music. In Music you need to hear the drums, bass and guitar rythmes. I saw Stone live performance at Afronation 2019 in Ghana and I saw the effort and talent to make real music. But Shatta was a disappointment, it was electrical noise.

    The hypocrisy of Rasta is overwhelming, how can you say Ghana is a place reggae has never been?...and calling out stonebwoy wrongly is really sad. I am surprised as an 80's kid reggae was all over way before i was born. The problem is that jamaica has destroyed the reggae and dancehall its like an evil spirit

  • @mylifemyworld23
    @mylifemyworld23 Před 8 lety +1

    ghana dont copy jamaica, similar language and all forms of beat came from africa, many of their gosple songs are made of reggae thats how they are and jamaicans remember your culture is from africa mainly ghana so if they do similar to yours its not a fight but to promote the genre of music. a white man will be happy if others do things they does cos all promotes him.shatta wale and stonebwoy are great artistes who are encouranging this genre and fusing the african way together lets come together jamaica and ghana we are one.

    African Reggae /Dancehall artists are always copy cats. They try to talk in patois even in their own country which is sad.. they sing in patois etc... I was in Ghana few yers back and an artist called Batman always portrayed himself as a Jamaican they forget that when you're fake it goes against your career most especially when everybody knows that you're not from Jamaican. Hope they learn from this and move on indeed
