  • 37212 working an unfitted coal train somewhere on the North East coast. Any help in identifying the location will be appreciated!

    Thanks for the great film. 212 once ran coal on the Ebbw line from Cleynen South colliery in South wales. As a nipper I recall one day, the driver gave the horns a blast, and they stuck on, what a din that was. The engine stopped at the top of my street , one of the crew clambered onto the roof to silence the horns. I've never forgotten that incident. I think most of the street tuned out to see what was going on. First time i've seen 212 since then, apart from a picture some years ago, of it awaiting it's fate in the cutters yard. In the last year there have been a pair of 37's running here in Norwich, on a commuter line.

    Shot from the east side of Dawdon crossings (now a footbridge and signal box sadly no more). Houses in view are Grant's Crescent.

    It's not unfitted. The wagons had vacuum brakes, there was a continuous pipe to the brakevan.
