    Brilliant, John! 🤩
I love those Renault battery connections that you hate! 😂
Don’t lose the red grease cup that you left off. It prevents oxidation.
For the choke, push full on the accelerator, pull out the choke all the way, let go of the accelerator and start. Do not pump. Do not accelerate. Once the car is moving (in the near future), after about a mile or less, push the choke in half way until the temperature gauge starts to move up. Then push full off. Probably two miles max on choke.
Try that anyway. I’m trying to remember from my student days in a Renault! 😂
I think I would consider throwing out that radiator with all that gunk you found in the expansion bottle… 🤔

I almost know this engine by heart, if you need advice 😊 one thing that I always do first is replace the rear cooling pipe that goes to the intake manifold, this if still stock tend to tear apart, literally my friends Clio got that happening and already replaced it. Also theres a metal insert that also goes in the same spot as the cooling flexible pipe goes. Funnily enough never got a water expansion tank to rupture, at least ncver seen that happened.

I might well take you up on that offer . I ordered some new coolant pipes from Autodoc but they all appear to be incorrect

I think the early carb 1.4s just have a mechanical fuel pump at the engine, don't think there's an electric pump in the tank. Also check the clutch cable they regularly snapped on these. Engine sounds pretty good though

Nice work. My first car here in NZ was a 1990 19 GTX. 1.7 with power steering and electric windows. Luxury!

They really did feel a step up in quality compared to the likes of the Fiesta and Astra at the time.

Sounds very sweet when you got it going 👌
First government scrappage scheme ran from July 1995 until the end of 1997. The 19 was introduced in 1988 so didn't qualify.
The second one from 2009 to 2011 might have done for some later examples but the youngest 19s still on the road were 13 or 14 then...doubt there were two many left by then really after the boom etc.

Running well but I need to run it up to temperature fully to test it all. Manufactures and dealers slso had scrappage schemes too which killed off so many good cars, as did the fear of the nct when it came in. Pity really.

@@JohnsGarageIrelandPeople under estimate how many cars the NCT likely took off the road between 2000/2001. I estimate a lot of cars that were just eligible for testing and had little wrong with them were dumped.

@@Jeffrey_M agree completely. Lots of stuff was scrapped as manufacturers pounced on the NCT as a chance to offer incentives. The year 2000 and the fact we felt like we had cash for the first time ever made people want a new car. Fiat sold bucket loads of new Puntos on the back of it.

@@JohnsGarageIreland Pretty accurate I'm afraid. I have seen reg checks on some pretty surprising cars that showed a tax expiry when their first test became due. One was a BMW 535i Sport which I found hard to fathom somebody would have dumped at 9 years old.
