- The tradition of Landsknecht songs continued during World War II, after they had a renewed heyday, especially in the 1920s. The song is to be regarded as uncritical and is therefore also sung in the Bundeswehr to this day.

Landsknecht DnD sessions must be wild.
Germans playing a table top war game:
Two tens on the table.
One means critical hit,
the other one's for Ulric's fury.
I bet they play a form of the today "Chicago" named game where the last one or loser pays the round, wich also today played in many German pubs:
1 ”always for“ one hundred ”
"2", "3", "4" and "5" always their respective values, ie two, three, four and five
"6" always for "sixty".
Two sixes can be turned over to a "1", the second dice being put back into the cup (for another throw) OR two 6s are counted as "hundred and twenty" and left lying.
Three ones on a roll count as "Chicago" or "Chick" and have the result that the player who scored it is immediately out of the game (i.e., he definitely doesn't have to pay the round!). The beer felts (see below) that he may have collected up to this point are removed from the game.
Three ones from several throws count 300 and can only be outbid with a "chick".
If none of the three dice shows a 1 or a 6, it is a “fish”, the lowest that there is.
If you roll three sixes, they are converted into two ones and the remaining die is placed in the cup again.

Nice job with the more colloquial translation. I have similar experiences with trying to translate from German to English while balancing the literal meaning against the more metaphorical connotation.
Actually a similar form of dice gambling existed in ancient India too. In the game of "pasha", there are two dice. One has to score the exact number as requested by the opponent from 1 to 12 to win a round. There too, a double six or "poya baro"(literally meaning "lucky 12" was considered the greatest throw. Even today it is used idiomatically to mean a sudden lucky incident.) I don't know the rules of this one but sounds somewhat similar.

Anyone not noticing how this was written in 1935, if so, why not put the Reichswehr or Wehrmacht in the picture?
Very often only the lyrics are from the 30s, the melody can be many hundred years old.
Sometimes it even had lyrics but they were lost.
Thanks for clarifying it to me. I thought most of them were nationalist inventions made in the 1900’s romanticizing the Landsknecht.
