- Iran-aligned Houthis downed a US MQ-9 Reaper drone in Yemen's southeastern province of Marib, said the group's military spokesman. The Houthis released footage they said showed the aircraft being targeted with a surface-to-air missile in a desert region of Marib.
Images showed the MQ-9 on its belly in the barren desert, with its tail assembly disconnected from the rest of its body. At least one hatch on the drone appeared to have been opened after it landed there, although the drone remained broadly intact.

If the U.S. had taken a proper “old school approach”, we could have had the country cleared out in a week or less. 1) US weapons as it turns out are quite overhyped many times.
2) The US gives away weapons for free to countries like Ukraine and Afghanistan and charges heavily from countries like Saudi Arabia and India. If India really needs advanced weapon systems, we should develop them on our own or in collab with our partners at the global stage including US and Russia. We could also buy those same weapons at affordable prices from Black markets or from countries to which US gives them away from free and then those countries dump those weapons in black markets.

Well, you should take a look at what the MQ-9 really is. It's propeller driven. So what the Yemeni army actually achieved is to shoot down some supersized remote controlled Cessnas. That's not really an achievment you can be proud of, because it's so fucking easy. The MQ-9 is slow, has no counter measures and isn't stealthy at all. So what's achievment here they are so proud of? I don't see it. Every nation even with the lightest air defence could have achieved this.

The drone shown in the video was definitely not shot down using an AA missile. This looks much more like an unplanned but controlled outlanding or something was launched into it's motor to disable it's propulsion. A drone that is shot down would go down hard and shatter into pieces. Maybe even electronic warfare was used to jam the drone. Even though any smartphone from the past 10 years has at least an 8+ megapixel camera with a good sensor you never ever get good, high resolution photos of these drones. It's always just some blurrish screenshot taken from a video, why?
