WRIST RELEASE DRILL FOR MORE POWER

  • In this tip I show you a wrist release drill to help you get more power. You can literally do this drill anywhere because you don't even need a club to do it.
    Everyone is looking for more power but the great majority of golfers are going about it the wrong way. Instead of working on the getting the wrist release they literally just try to hit harder. This wrist release drill shows you the action of the wrists and give you the feeling of the wrist snap that generates serious power. Once you get this you couple it with your body and you finally have a powerful, effortless golf swing.
    If you want more power make sure you are doing this wrist release drill constantly until you get the right feeling of how the club releases. If you do, you will get more power on your shots.

    Ive been working on my swing for years...about 20 years ago i reread hogans 5 fundamentals...and in there he talks about pronating/supinating at impact...nothing about loose wrists..or loose arms...and so i went out to range and gave it a try......what a mess...hooking everything....couldnt time it....when i did time it...the ball had a solid strike...like 1/20 shots...and was incredible....i gave up on it.....unfortunately.....now im using loose wrists...loose arms...hinge unhinge....and am an incredible ball striker......because of other components in the swing...mainly the body....and turning with the body coiling and uncoiling and arms being passive and wrists being loose...the ball justs flies off club...straight...with less effort..and no strain...can play 36 a day easy........a golf swing is not just one component....its and interface of many components done correctly.....body swing continues to wotk for me...

    • @paulwilsongolf

      I have said since lesson 1 back in 1991 the follow through is the most important position in golf. It is point B to your swing. If you are not doing it you are making the ball point B. So see it differently. Backswing point A follow through point B. Swing from A to B. Watch: czcams.com/video/gIp4ifKuZIw/video.html

I do get some great results with my left wrist feeling dominant but wasn't sure if I'd get more accuracy/ power with my right since I'm right handed. Many thanks and thanks for all you do!

    • @paulwilsongolf
      @paulwilsongolf  Před 2 lety

      Thanks so much. I don't see either wrist as dominant. It's a unit that hinges and rehinges. Plus, I am not hitting anything. You start thinking about hands and you will hit. So see them as a hinge. They hinge ... they rehinge. They are loose. There is not power in this arm/wrist unit. Just work on these drills to get it working.

When i have coiled perfectly, with the left knee behind the ball, hips at 45 degrees and all. How should i start my downswing? i have understood it as that my hips should start the downswing but it seems that it doesn't work for me. Lately i have tried to avoid using my arms and just turn my shoulders and then my hips comes along, arms falls down and i get behind the ball and get a decent finish position. Is this wrong?

    Great videos, my half swing has become really decent thanks to you. My full swing still needs some work (often top, shank or just hit the ball a bit too high), but I will work it out thanks to you. I still have three questions:
    1. I think my balls fly a bit too high if I hit them with my full swing. I don't have that problem with the half swing. Am I leaning back too hard. So I actually can play the ball further with my half swing than with my full swing (also because I am much more loose with my half swing, full swing is not that loose yet)?
    2. Sometimes I do not it the ground at all (but I hit the ball pretty well, I just don't make any divots, should I feel the heel a bit earlier? I might release it too late.
    3. Can one use the same technique for wedges? Loosen the wrist helped me but are there some changes that one should do except ball in the middle instead of the left side?

    Hi Paul, love your videos! As I loosen up my wrists I seem to have quite a cup in my left wrist at the top. I'm only working on my wrists for starters so I can't tell if it will affect my shots once I piece together other aspects of your program. I've never been able to get my club parallel to my shoulders so I suppose that's a good thing, but I want to make sure my club face should square up once I initiate my hips, because I'm doing hundreds of indoor practice swings/day. Thoughts? And do you do online lessons's??

    • @paulwilsongolf
      @paulwilsongolf  Před 2 lety

      To get rid of the cupping you need to glue the left thumb against the index finger. This will run it across your palm. If there is a gap the club is parallel to you knuckles which allows it to over cup.

    • @paulwilsongolf
      @paulwilsongolf  Před 2 lety

      Just because that is the lead arm. It is the one that is extended back and through. As you hinge and re-hinge there is also compression in the weak wrists joint that you need to get used to otherwise you will tighten up. If I get you doing it with the stronger arm are you going to hinge the weaker one? Not sure you will. Try both if you want.

    Paul I tried explaining this to a good friend who watched and said "this leads to casting the club". • @paulwilsongolf
      @paulwilsongolf  Před 2 lety +1

      How can that be casting my thumb is pointing away from the target until the last millisecond before I snap it the other way? Casting is hitting with the arms from the top. Who casts it? Amateurs. All you have to do to stop casting is turn the arms off and start your body first in the downswing. Then you have the body leading and the arms trailing. A big part of getting it though is to unlock your wrists which is what this drill is doing. This is a piece of the swing not the whole swing. Here are my lag tips:

      If you have a neutral grip and are hooking it then you have half. You need to work on the other half which is your body. So start turning ... quick.

      If you are firing your body first and not trying to roll it with a neutral grip there is no way that ball is hooking more than a few yards.

      @@paulwilsongolf no I don’t think I’m firing my body first, possibly the arms/shoulders first. I’ve only been playing 2/3 months. My good shots will be a nice draw but often I am overdrawing and hooking them. I will check that video out, thanks Paul!

    Hey Paul, when I do this I end up just pulling it but it stays straight. How do I get it to start on line and hook?

    • @paulwilsongolf
      @paulwilsongolf  Před 2 lety

      You're starting down with your arms which is tilting you left in the downswing. Tilt left and you will swing left. Tilt right you will swing right. Ideally, you want a slight right tilt which happens when you start the lower first. It's like hitting the accelerator on a car. Fire the lower and the upper tilts back.

    Can I get too flippy doing this?

      Same question, I’ve always heard that synchronisation flipping the face makes it so much harder, but what do I know

      What's better hooking it or slicing it? In the tip I said this is a piece of the swing. Get rid of slice spin then straighten it out with your body. This is the release not a flip. This fixes the spin. The body fixes direction. So release it early and get it hooking. Once you can do that where you feel you know the feeling then start firing the lower body. If your body moves before arms coming down you will hit it dead straight.

      Hopefully, you saw my answer to Frieda. Just follow the tip. People who think this is bad have no clue what they are doing or how to fix the swing. As you add body you watch your ball. Gradually add body until you hit it straight. Push/[push fade = too much body. pull/pull hook too little body. Once you hit it straight remember how much body you used to hit it straight.

    Are you snapping your wrist with both hands 🤷‍♂️

      Yes, as you are learning it and loosening up you would do this with both hands. This is just a one handed left handed drill to understand what I want you to do. Follow these:
