I mean...crappy jobs are ALWAYS hiring. You're half right, people with no experience or education just aren't trying hard enough if they can't find a job. But a lot of the time when people say they can't find work, they are referring to their field of work which could be high paying but finite jobs.
Or just jobs that don't have much positions in general.
Also it actually makes sense that she already got another job because she wasn't sentenced yet. She is/was still innocent until proven guilty. You also don't have to disclose ALL details of past employment, as well as the fact that you can't just fire people for no reason. They probably learned about her AFTER hiring her.

The problem is you start this and get away with it . Before you know it , you can’t stop . Many years ago I pulled something off like this at a job ( not close to the amount she got 😮 ) but I was able to get over 5k . Doing exactly what she did . I was never caught ( thank god because being where I am now in life I could not have something like that on my record ) you don’t stop and think about it at the time ( what if I’m caught ? 🤔 ) but if you are I feel bad for you because that is something that will follow you forever .

Was a woman at my wifes work, who was the cashier. One day she dipped into petty cash to get something at the shop. Thats how it started. Pretty soon it was her personal bank, which she had control over. Nobody knew what was going on until out of the blue, the business had to be audited. She panicked and did a runner. There was about 20 000 quid missing. (Uk) We were all out looking for her, in the woods, down the beach, fearing the worst. She turned up eventually. Her husband repaid it, somehow and she avoided prison. Shed worked there over 20 years.

The people who are happiest and most competent at crappy retail jobs are the ones who are most likely stealing. When you see people with houses and cars when their coworkers have 2 roommates and a bus pass, you are probably looking at thief, not someone who is just "good with their money." I'd be shocked if any retail worker would work the same position for 2 decades without having found a cash leak in the system.

So she worked at a Wal-Mart location since 1982 and was still presumably working roughly the same position in the same town for over 30 years... I don't know, I would imagine she grew to hate Wal-Mart, especially if her pay was still relatively low, and figured out a way to rip them off. I don't blame her but she was extremely careless for taking too much in such a short amount of time.
