It's crazy that this was Bradley Cooper's first and only Horror film he ever starred in, and they promoted the film at San Diego Comic Con
And he was fantastic
Pretty sure this was the first movie I ever even saw Bradley Cooper in way back when.
He played in the movie "Case 39". That's another horror movie.
And then there's Nightmare Alley....shibber me timbers
I remember when this movie first came out, I had never heard of Bradley Cooper. He wasn’t a big star yet. I remember really liking this film but I had completely forgotten about it until now. I definitely didn’t remember the cosmic horror in the form of the creatures the butcher has to feed on regular basis. After watching this breakdown, I definitely need to go back and rewatch it.
One thing I love this channel for is introducing me to movies I’ve never heard of. Thanks.
You're most welcome!
@@filmcomicsexplained are you ever going to make an effort to learn how to pronounce anyone's name correctly? Or is it intentional that each video contains at least one unnecessary butchering of a name and one "jabroni"?
Really liked this movie when I saw it a few years ago and again when I rewatched it a couple of months ago. Would love for them to make a sequel or a even prequel to vinnie jones becoming the butcher
I saw this movie after stumbling across it on late night cable. From the name I was expecting some type of bad slasher but I was pleasantly surprised that it actually turned out to actually be a pretty good horror movie. It makes sense it was written by Clive Barker.
Midnight Meat Train movie was really good and only recently read the Books of Blood 1-3 …cool to see “Son of Celluloid” turned into a movie…comic with art by Les Edwards is really good.
I love cosmic horror and i CAN'T believe i've never seen this movie!?!?! 👀 THIS IS IN MY WATCH LIST NOW! thanks for another amazing video Nyat! ❤
Highly recommend it!
I remember the first time I saw the DVD cover, I had NO idea what I was about to witness. But, as a lifelong fan of Barker, as well as Lovecraftian tales, I came away pleased.
Is it a perfect movie? No. But, it is FAR more than was advertised. I consider it a bit of a hidden gem.
Enjoy!
@@rolmodel12. Thank's! 🤯 i'm much more interested now!! definitely have to go see it tonight.☝🏻
Check out The Void.
Same here. Just watched it and was surprised to find cosmic horror. I always saw it presented and hack& slash. It has a lot more to offer than just that
Man, I remember watching this movie with my mom and how this was one of the only films that made me feel tense and anxious.

Easily one of the early 2000s best horror movies, I wish more movies kept things just out of sight to keep up that unknown horror feelings
I had no idea they even adapted this into film! The story is freakin amazing, but I do wish they maintained that esoteric dreamlike sequence of the story. Him waking up and trying to figure out where he was and why was so suspenseful and gripping. But like you suggest, Bradley's character has the agency to develop much futher than a surface level protagonist
When I first saw it I had no idea what it was about or that there was a book, all I knew was the movie felt dream like and I didn't know why.
This movie reaffirmed my mistrust of public transportation and the big metropolitan cities that have them.😱
Logical
Living in a big city that has an extensive subway/elevated train system, I already highly distrusted it way before this movie ;)
Well new yorkers I mean the literal new yorkers the rats
Watch "creep" from 2005. Plays in a subwaytrain System too.
I missed this movie so much ty for covering this one
Thanks for tuning in!
Absolutely outstanding movie thanks for another outstanding video dude hope you're having an excellent day!🙂👍
Thanks for the visit. You too! :)
@@filmcomicsexplained 😎👍
I definitely love this movie, I know was supposed to be one that was meant for commercial success but I enjoy it as one of those that only a handful of people know of.
Also I always wanted to make a fan theory that the beasts in this film were not too far off from the ones we see in the decent. I mean, both live deep underground, the general populace has no knowledge of them, and they feed on human flesh
This movie gave me a more serious cabin in the woods vibes when I saw it in 2017.
FCE never fails to amaze me, Midnight Meat Train was my childhood late night horror movie, and thanks to you I feel so much better and never been so entertained thank you for this video!.
Get yourself the blu ray/DVD. In the special features there is an interview with barker at his home where you get to see just piles of paintings that he has done
This movie is insane great review by the way.
That was a great film. I watched in in Korea where it also struggled to find an audience. I had no idea what I was seeing when I bought a ticket.
Yess
I think you’re first, congrats.
Morning Niyat 👋😁
Thanks for another banger
Morning champ! Thank you :)
I was JUST wondering if you'd make a video on this movie because it randomly popped up in my brain a few weeks ago lol. Thanks as always nyat! I'll try and think of some suggestions for movies that I've seen that not many others have seen :)
It reminds me of Lovecraft's "PIckman's Model" which has one of the creepy portraits of Pickman showing ghouls attacking subway travelers.
The subway operator is Marcus from UnderWorld
I loved this film and wished we could have had either a sequel showing how Leon copes with his new life or a prequel explaining how the deal with the creatures came about and who Vinnie Jones's character was before he became the butcher and how he got the job
Absolutely loved this movie. If only we were shown more of those creatures, however I actually am okay not knowing what they are as the main characters themselves are already really interesting.
Nice, saw this again a few days ago.
Always happy when a new FCE video drops!! ❤️❤️❤️
More to come!
Sold movie and great video!! Keep up the awesome work.
I love your videos!!!
First saw this on the Syfy channel back in the late 2000s - early 2010s can't remember , but it was pretty chilling and haunting.
Are you going to cover the Book of blood ? I think that was the name of another work adapted of Clive's , about spirits writing their tales on a man's skin .
Good one! Great build-up, kills and really solid acting. Vinny Jones at his most scary.
This is a forgotten gem of a movie. The ending got a bit silly but the build up was amazing. Please can you explain the boondock saints movie soon Niat!!!! I've asked a few times and really hoping you get round to it soon!
Great movie
I went to a midnight screening of this in West Hollywood when this first came out. A great Clive Barker story and the movie was fun for what it was.
Hollypoop
Love this movie. It had half the A-Team!
It pretty much is aye haha
Never heard of this before. Will check it out! :D
Definitely one of my favs. Great story it is.
That’s pretty interesting. Gonna have to check it out.
Great underrated movie for sure!
_"Hussein with the water's so Kacinski's got TIME!"_
Here we go again, another good one I'm off to watch.
Intriguing.
You finally made a video about midnight meat train. I remember recommending this one last year I know it sounds like a bad porno. It freaked me out watching this in theaters
Saw this when it came out in theater, i was pleased as I had read alot of Clive barkers books. I still want to see a film adaptation of the *yattering and Jack* someday
Shout out to Quinton Rampage Jackson. Had no idea he played in a horror movie. And shout out to ufc. Oh yeah and one last shout out to film comics expained! I believe ive seen all of your videos to this day. TO THIS DAY😂
Nice
Thanks for the video!! See you later!! Stay safe.😊
Wow this looks awesome, I love showing people movies you talk about on this channel...even though I know the plot, it's really fun to see others reactions when the twists happen
Glad you enjoy it!
All time favorite of mine. More eyes must see this film. THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST
yes loved this film. I think I found it randomly and I'm glad I did. yet again a great video x
Yay, thank you!
I thought this was a perfect horror/
Almost thriller. Cooper is a good actor and has more horror movies he needs to do or direct .
He breaking his veganism and eating meat always freaks me out when I see the movie or clips.
Idk what it is but this movie has such a cool and unique feel to it
Fire ass movie! Love the lighting
Could you cover the film 9?
Sure! Never heard of that one
@@filmcomicsexplained The Thirteenth Floor is another one you should do.
:O good one!
What is your outro music, it good lol
A favorite of mine.
I'll always love this movie
Do The Ancient Enemy from The Phantoms.
Yep
Afleck was the bomb in that movie!
Love this movie I want so much more lore on the aliens
A very underrated gem from Clive Barker. I agree with the others who recommended the Director's Cut.
Raimi's lazily animated CGI eye popping was really funny and undermined the horror aspect of that scene, but definitely one of the best horror films of its decade
Case 39 and this movie are why I wanted to see more Bradley Cooper in the horror genre
can anyone please make a cosmic horror movie list, i have seen some but im sure there are more out there, i will watch this one for sure now.
Good horror
I have not seen this movie (I've read the story), but I'm getting big Night Flyer vibes.
its garbage
VANILLA ICE: Stop this train 'coz I wanna get off!
ME: Not even a Ninja Rap can save ya
And thats why I watch your channel, I think MMT was very under rated but didn't realize it was a Barker baby! His Cabal/Nightbreed is one of my all time favorites 🥰
Love this movie also please can you do the unique infected in dying light 2
No 😮
My dad LOVES this movie. I thought it was disgusting but he loved it for some reason, he would always ask me to watch it with him but I just couldn't do it.
Called it: the subways really are a den of monsters. Even hellboy 2 showed it
NZT-48... Not even once!!
I thought this was just your run of the mil slasher flick so never watched it. This looks good.
Is it just me or is this the kind of topic Niyat enjoys talking about the most? 😁
😁
Here at 33 seconds! Doesn’t even display likes yet. This is gonna be a good video.
Please do The Book of Blood next, great film that came out the same time as this
Have you seen The Fly 2 1989 and have you read the The Fly Outbreak comic book sequel of The Fly 2?
Seen Fly 2, but havent read the comic yet. is it good?
@@filmcomicsexplained The Fly Outbreak is a comic Sequel book of The Fly 2 where Bartok is still alive and in his mutated maggot form. Martin feels bad for turning Bartok into a monster, so he attempts to find a way to cure him. Martin uses Bartok for tests in the telepods several times, but with no success. Bartok eventually turns into a fly monster just as Martin had seem. Soon, Bartok plans to extract revenge on Martin for the mutation by attacking him with it. After a struggle, Martin manages to finally kill Bartok-Fly, however after Bartok-Fly was killed he released a virus like disease where Everyone will turn into Fly/Human Hybrids
@@filmcomicsexplained so yeah it’s soft goof little scary but good, I figure you might be interesting in The Fly Outbreak comic book series since it has a virus in it, you know do a virus video
Me: man this is really tense and interesting
Little chasers ad: ima kick in the door and ruin the vibe
I just finished this and have to say, I liked as much as I disliked. The ending was certainly very, very shocking though. I can't believe how dark it was
Still didn't get why the conductor and Mahgoney lived for centuries and the cop and should have shown more of the old ones story and fiction is fact who knows whata down in hidden tunnels of nasty New York and old tunnels
This movie reminds me Terminator 1 Vinnie Jones is like cyborg killer only in differrent universe.Very cool movie! And may be its not a conspiracy?May be lizzard people do exist?!May be David Icke is right?
Please review Eyes Wide Shut and the 24 minutes of missing footage
Can you do Everything, Everywhere All at once?
The Cabin in the Woods
Yes. A far better movie.
Vinny Jones is epic
Must say I was underwhelmed by the movie.
The twist at the end was´nt enough and was´nt fleshed out enough to drag me into the story.
Since I liked barkers other movies I was fairly let down by this one.
Lovecraftian stories work by letting the viewer get a glimpse of their own secret worlds just enough to keep the viewer guessing,
but not expain themselves too much.
The ending and whole idea of this movie did´nt excite me enough to recommend it really.
If you´re really into Lovecraftian stuff there´s better things to watch like in the mouth of madness, event horizon or the fog.
But then again reading the original work always gave me the best chills and feel of really being pulled into the stories;
while after finishing always thinking how hard it would be to make a movie out of the written material,
since these stories work by describing the unthinkable and not really showing us the monster in question,
like mentioned at 7:28
You didn't mention those things mahogany removing from his chest and put it in a glass container. What was that actually?
Bradley Cooper's stellar showcase- my only complaint is he should have carried over the character to " A STAR 🌟 IS BORN"...where it would have seamlessly integrated itself without a skip. Hahahahahahahhaa.
IS THAT RAMPAGE JACKSON??
yep!
I wonder why he was in this
👍🏼
I always thought this was a "corn" film, just think of the name.
There's lots of cool things to find in this film. But! I feel that the unique source material is what sets it apart, and, also unfortunately cripples it. The ending is just too abrupt and off the rails (... 👀) compared to the rest of the plot. Haha. To the point it's pretty funny without context. It gives off the impression that the creator didn't know how to end it.. now of course, this probably isn't true, but without the prior appreciation of cosmic horror, it becomes a murder mystery movie with "because alien-lizard-people" as the twist; which again, is as perplexing as it is hilarious. -- Just my 2 cents. You can't deny the train gore scenes are certainly unique and well made though, that decapitation from the head POV scene really sticks in your... Head!! (Ha 🖤)
I wish they'd make a film adaptation of Clive Barkers Jericho.
very slay movie imo
You know who ELSE likes to ride a Midnight Meat Train?
MY MOM
The failure of this film is that it doesn't provide a background to it's horror lore and creatures. It doesn't tell us what these creatures ate, why there's a whole network protecting them why the protagonist in the end simply does as he is told like a brainless puppet.
The interesting part of the film was Bradley Cooper investigating the trail of the train murderer but apart from that the film just fails at the horror aspect despite delivering on the mystery one.
They are reptilians and they exist in real life. Most are underground and few above ground in human form. They are shapeshifters. You wouldn't be able to distinguish a reptilian if one walked right past you. They been around for thousands of years.
I know it probably isn't but in my mind this is absolutely a lovecraftian film of a cult feeding "ghouls" in NYC....and how the title is the most porn sounding film I've heard of.
Excuse me Mr. Niyat, but could you do a video about Rexy / Roberta or the main T rex from the Jurassic Park franchise. I think her canon history and her non-canon histories from the comics and other series could make a interesting video.
No 👌
Doesn't explain the train driver. How was he so strong he could lift him and tear out the tongue?
