    Hello! I have to rebuild my Polaris Switchback Aventure 2012 600 clutch, I bought the complete Epi kit and I'm going to have the spider removed at my dealership. I forgot to make a mark on the top and bottom plate, and the mechanic didn't do it either. I just saw this in the manual shop. Do you know how I can know if the two plates will be aligned in the right place when I put it all back together? There is no X on the bottom shelf. THANKS !

    • @EPIperformance
      @EPIperformance  Před 7 měsíci

      There should be an "X" on the underside of the clutch inbetween the ribs. If not then all you can do is line up the "X" on the cover plate and on the spider and put it together. If there is no "X" on the spider then it is the part of the spider that has any part number engraved on it would be the X spot. Be sure to use red loctite when put it all together.

    • @EPIperformance
      @EPIperformance  Před 5 lety

      Its a 50/50 call. Typically if the hole is round enough to support the new button enough to hold it in place you can use it for a while. But normally if it is worn that bad it should be replaced. BUT note that on a lot of models the hole for the pin to go through is not perfectly centered in the button hole by design which allows the button to be bigger and will very by model.

    • @EPIperformance
      @EPIperformance  Před 3 lety

      On some clutches you might be able to but on most the rod wouldn't be long enough. And if the rod was longer on the 358B it wouldn't allow the jam nut and spider tool to go down far enough to engage. If you swapped out the rod and added the top bracket in the CCT510 tool you probably could use for both.

    • @EPIperformance
      @EPIperformance  Před 2 lety

      Yes that is correct. The cover plate is under spring tension so when you go to remove the six bolts have someone hold the clutch cover down and then remove the bolts and let the cover slowly come off the clutch.

    • @EPIperformance
      @EPIperformance  Před 3 lety +1

      On a lot of clutches we just use a open end of a wrench and that is enough to get on the nut and hold it. We also have a few cheap (made in china) sockets that we found that are thinner and work pretty good also.

    • @EPIperformance
      @EPIperformance  Před 7 měsíci

      In most cases that means your belt is stretch to long or its the wrong belt for the machine. I would inspect and replace the belt. If it is a new belt make sure it is the correct part number. If all that is good then your clutches are shifting out to far or out of alignment.

  • @tnhomestead
    @tnhomestead Před 2 lety

    • @EPIperformance
      @EPIperformance  Před 2 lety +1

      in most cases on the polaris primary that means the center bearing ir worn out or locked up. The normal rebuils kit does not include the bearing but we do sell some of the popular part numbers from polaris. If you call the tech line they can see if its a bearing we have. 1-218-828-6036

    I have a 2017 570 sportsman I blew my first belt my quad has an EPI clutch kit sport-utility up to 28 inch tiresI replaced the belt put everything all back together there was no damage as far as I knew to the clutch then I listened through the snorkel hose and I'm hearing a whole lot of clicking really bad very noisy??? I've never heard of that loud before so what do you think it is that's making all that clicking I don't have brake assist so my bearing in the clutch goes frontwards and backwards but it does have play it moves left to right so that clicks I was told that supposed to hold the belt straight so there should be no play left to right with that bearing is there anything else that could be making that clicking like my pins or something

    • @EPIperformance
      @EPIperformance  Před 4 lety

      The bearing will normally move about an 1/8" from left to right. If you have EBS (engine braking) then your bearing should only turn one way and lock up going the other. So I would double check that and then look at rollers to seen if they are worn and also the buttons and the weights.

  • @melissa_offroad
    @melissa_offroad Před 2 lety

    What do you do if you accidentally breaker the roller washers?

    • @EPIperformance
      @EPIperformance  Před 2 lety

      You will want to get a replacement washer from EPI or OE Polaris Dealer. IF the roller washer breaks it will allow the roller to move back and forth to much and wear out the roller bushing really quick. Or if the broken washer binds up the roller then the roller can get flat spotted.

    I have a Razor s 900 2015 and it has 500 miles on it. I will be buying the EPI mudder clutch kit with the tools to dismantle and install. First, How do u know when your clutch needs to be rebuilt? Typically how many miles before a rebuilt? Also, can someone send their clutch in to EPI to be rebuilt? if so, what does it usually cost?

    • @EPIperformance
      @EPIperformance  Před 8 lety

      +Eddie Regory There is no set time or miles of when you need to rebuild your clutches. There are many factors that determine how long a clutch lasts including use/abuse, maintenance, conditions your riding in, belts, and just how and where you ride. As a real rough guideand the clutches have been maintainanced some atvs will usually be good until 2500-3000 miles, and side x sides are good for 2000. After that point it will need inspection a lot more often. Now some people will make it 5000 and some will make it 500 so the best thing to do is inspect the clutches as often as possible and they will last longer. Even just taking an air hose and blow the clutches clean helps a lot. EPI does not rebuild clutches here, we wish we could but we are to busy staying on top of all of our R&d projects.

    • @EPIperformance
      @EPIperformance  Před 3 lety

      On most clutches there is a "X" marked on the cover plate, spider, and movable sheave of the clutch so you should be able to line those up. If you just rebuilt the clutch sometimes they can be a little tight and should loose after a real short drive drive. IF they absolutely doesnt move i would take back apart and clean the towers really good where the buttons slide up and down. If that doesnt fix it, slide the moveable sheave up and down on the center shaft. If the bushing wasnt pressed in straight or was damaged when pressing it in it will make it so the clutch wont slide up and down. IF that is good then do the same thing with the cover plate and make sure that slides up and down smoothly.

    • @EPIperformance

      All the 850 Sportsman bearing turn the same way. The bearing will turn counterclockwise and lock up when you turn clockwise. The 850/1000 Scrambler/Sportsman clutches turn the opposite direction as the most other Polaris's do. So you have to unthread the jam nut and spider differently.

Like I said it seems to work good but have not trail tested..

    • @EPIperformance
      @EPIperformance  Před 5 lety +1

      Its ok if the weights hit on the center as long as it doesn't keep the clutch from opening all the way. The sportsman clutch probably has a one way bearing for engine braking and most stock 800 clutches us a two bearing. So you might get a little belt drag on the bearing but should be ok. you will want to double check your clutch alignment. From there all you can do is try it and see what happens.

      Hi Jason, I wouldn't put in the parts washer. Especially the bearing. The solvent might damage the bushing materials in the clutch. Best thing we have found is to blow off with air and then spray brake cleaner or acetone on a clean rag and wipe it down. Then use a light scotch pad to take off any belt glazing and get a deeper clean.

      Polaris updates/supercedes the part numbers on the clutches quite often on all the models. As long as your clutch is the original clutch off the machine you are good to go.

      +EPIperformance the one from my machine is toast(dont think u can rebuild )is there no way i could use a clutch from a 2013 sportsman 550 in my 2010

      I don't know a reason of why you shouldn't be able to. They use the same part number belt. Motor is the same hp. The newer models use the exact rebuilt kit other then the cover bushing. But we haven't actually tried it, but I think its a pretty safe gamble.

    Do you clean the bearing or grease it ?

    • @EPIperformance
      @EPIperformance  Před 3 lety +1

      If you have a new bearing it will have grease in it, it isnt much but if you add any extra it will work its way out of the bearing and getting on your clutches and belt causing all kinds of slippage. If you are reusing a used bearing you can clean the outside of the bearing only by putting brake cleaner or acetone on a clean rag first and then wiping the outside of the bearing off.
