  • A very boring visit to Leicester station on the Midland Mainline where we only see a handful of services from East Midlands Trains and Cross Country, I wouldn't be counting this station out completely though purely because this was filmed on a Sunday when engineering works were taking place so unbeknown to me the line was closed in between Leicester to Bedford so replacement bus services were on a regular timed departure from the station. I will happily come back here on a busier day where I'd get much more variety as Well as some freight.
My next station is Luton on the Midland Mainline filmed in 2 parts.
You can now find me on Facebook through the group Tornado922, there you will find regular updates, videos and photos from all of my goings on throughout 2017

Really enjoy your videos tornado922. Keep up the amazing work. Kings Sutton would be a great station to do as has a great mix of Chiltern, Great Western and Cross Country and great class 68s and 88s as well 🙂

I visit Leicester on a regular basis as I was born and raised here till my family moved to Northampton, glad to hear that you won't rule Leicester out trust me it's better than this, I usually go on a weekday and it's one of the busiest stations on this line, on a good day quite a few freight train pass through too, I was last there about 2 months ago midweek and had a very good 2/3 hours there :)

I will definitely be coming back here as I really did pick a bad day to come to this station. I've seen from a few films in the past at the level of traffic that usually passes through

Yea, it is much better in the week it's much busier then, I try to avoid Spotting on Sundays if I can as it can be quite unpredictable . But even with the limited traffic that Sunday it's still a good video :)

Your welcome :) ..... My last 4 to 5 visits back here have been in the afternoon and it's usually at it's busiest, I love going here in general as it's where I was born, left in 1984 but go back as often as I can, also will look into visiting some of the other stations in these videos too :)

It's a bitter pill to swallow given the Government has cancelled the electrification of the Midland Mainline between Bedford and Sheffield. However the Thameslink 700s can go on track without the overhead wires. Instead new hybrid diesel-electric trains similar to the 800s will go t Sheffield. Possibly Thameslink could go as far North as Leicester and run Leicester-Brighton services. Electrification is very expensive as shown when the West Coast Mainline was electrified between Euston and Glasgow but was well over budget. Deltic Diesels ran on the East Coast Mainline between Kings Cross and Edinburgh in the meantime. Only under Margaret Thatcher was the East Coast Mainline electrified to allow for fast electric trains on the route. In North London a spur linking the East Coast Mainline to St Pancras will be opened next year thus allowing Thameslink 700s to travel between Brighton, Peterborough, Maidstone, Horsham, Gatwick Airport and Littlehampton.

I cant see Thameslink running or even buying Bi-mode trains in all honesty. Given the size of the parent company Govia it would probably just be easier to stick to their current routes and work to improve on their reliability.

Sadly the wires won't ever reach this part of the world but maybe that means the HST's will stick around?
