    My two favorite bits from the movie:
    - The way Captain Shakespeare's second in command rolls his eyes every time the Captain acts all piraty,
    - Mark Williams as Billy. Arthur Weasley, Father Brown, and a billygoat. Talk about range!

      IKR? I've always equated the two. PB is a bit on the goofier, lighthearted side, whereas SD is a bit darker and more serious, but both phenomenal films.

    If you look at the princes' outfits, they have their number on it. Septimus has 7 on his buttons, Secondous has a roman numeral 2 embrodiered on his coat for examples.

    My favorite anecdote about Stardust is from part of an interview Claire Danes gave where she was talking about teasing the director. He had asked how she was thinking of portraying a star, and she said, "‘maybe occasionally I might introduce a couple of jazz hands or something pretty subtle, and you know, occasionally emphasise certain lines here and there.."
    😂😂

    For a trippy Neil Gaiman fantasy, you have to watch MIRRORMASK. Real Wonderland vibes, but with the Gaiman twist. Real obscure though..

    • @CritterPaladin
      @CritterPaladin Před 3 měsíci

      Written and directed with Sandman cover artistDave McKean. Very low budget fantasy, produced by the Henson company (but sadly, no muppets.) It's fun. But the story of it being written (complete with Terry Gilliam coming over for lunch) is equally good.

  • @-just-so-
    @-just-so- Před 3 měsíci +3

    One of that rare niche of adaptations that manages to both stand completely separately from the book, while still being every bit as good. Movie romances are pretty hit-or-miss for me, but - like everything else in this film - the romance in this one is just irresistibly charming. Then again, Neil Gaiman can also be pretty hit-or-miss for me, but the book is fantastic, so I guess Stardust is just out here batting 100. (And speaking of Ilan Eshkeri, who evidently does a top-tier sweepingly romantic soundtrack: if you enjoyed the score for this, check out the score for Young Victoria!)

    I read Sandman as a teen which is the only comic series I've followed, and when I heard about this being a Gaiman story I was all in. I eventually read the book and was not really that impressed but this is great. Which led me to keep an eye on Charlie Cox which paid off big time in Daredevil. Also Claire Danes is always so adorable!

    Unfortunately this is VERY different from the book. The book is much less sweet and has a very sad ending compared to this movie.
    The movie does Victoria dirty. She's much nicer in the book. And she and the other villagers think Tristan died. She ends up marrying Mr Monday (the shop owner) as he's younger in the book. Tristan does die at an old age, because in the book you have to eat the heart. And obviously he doesn't do that. And Yvaine spends the rest of her lonely, eternal life wandering the lands and mourning not being able to rejoin her sisters in the skies.
    Edit: there are also no sky pirates. Much less a gay one. That whole arc was done for the movie.
