  • Testing and comparing JK BMS screens connected to the new JK Inverter BMS. Problems identified... can they be fixed with software updates? or is it a hardware fault?
    After seeing my review of the JK Inverter BMS, www.lithium-cells.co.za sent the large touch screen to me to test and play around with (I bought the small screens from them about a year ago), and they also gave me four promo codes to share with you, to use on their online store.
    They have said there is 10% off for the first 4 people that use the promo code.
    Use promo-code BurtonBuilds2024 during checkout.
    If anything changes, or they give me additional promo codes to share, I'll update the description or leave them in the community section.

    Thats really annoying with the 4.3 screen as mine discharges the life out of my battery. I suspect its because I had to make an extension cable for it. You can cut the white wire and make a switch for it, which turns the screen completely off and on again.

    • @GrantBurton
      @GrantBurton  Před 18 dny

      Hi Andy, thanks for the tip about the switch. I'm not sure how extending the cable would cause additional power draw on something like this, unless something went wrong with the extension... I suspect it would be something else though.

    • @andysutils
      @andysutils Před 17 dny

      @@GrantBurton it discharges every few minutes when the screen is connected much faster than it does when it's disconnected. I'm due to reconnect it back on the boat soon. I'll let you know what i find and run a clamp meter on it and see if it's drawing any unusual current.

    I just bought 2 of the 4.3 screens and they work directly with a 16 cell 48 volt pack. no need to run a 12 volt power.
    Therfore when i push the off button the screen turns off, untill i restart the BMS with the push button.
    I looked at the packaging and can't see any version numbers.

    • @GrantBurton
      @GrantBurton  Před 13 dny

      There is only a 'Display always on' setting in the Control screen in the BMS app (version 15.27). Isn't the screen supposed to sleep / turn off by itself, and then wake again when there is a charge or discharge (thats what my small screens seem to do).

    • @GrantBurton
      @GrantBurton  Před 4 měsíci

      Hi, yes, the JK Inverter BMSs are running in parallel and at the same time, I was able to plug in the USB to RS485 adapter and use the PC software to view the data. No settings could be changed but I could see the realtime data for both batteries (address 0 and Address 1). The data seems to refresh every 7 to 8 seconds. The only data that was not working is 'Battery Capacity' and 'Remaining Capacity'... both showing zero on the PC software but showing correctly using the phone app. SOC Percentage shows correctly on PC software though.

    • @GrantBurton
      @GrantBurton  Před 4 měsíci +1

      I came across a PDF document (published on JK's website) about the larger 4.3 inch touch screen... it shows a minimum input voltage of 6v and maximum input voltage of 36 volts. I haven't tried anything higher than 12v so not sure how accurate that claim is. It also claims that at 12v, the screens current draws is 116mA.
      I've also heard that the 'always on' function for the small screen has been disabled by JK... supposedly because the smaller screens were failing when powered on all the time (I can't confirm this though).
      The documents for the small 2.5 inch screen indicates that as soon as discharge is greater than 0, the screen will turn on. As far as i remember, both of my 2.5 inch screens (plugged into the Inverter BMS) turn on when the charge or discharge is greater than 0, but they do turn off again after a while.
