Pomona Natural Bridge

My better half accompanied me on an evening of several outdoor activities. The first stop was Pomona Natural Bridge near the tiny community of Pomona, Illinois, located in the Western side of the Shawnee National Forest.
The gravel drive going to the parking lot is a rough drive, so keep speed at a minimum. Once there, there’s enough parking for at least a dozen cars. The trail is approximately 0.3 miles and forms a loop. You are able to walk over the top of the natural rock bridge and walk down to get a view underneath it. There appeared to be another unofficial trail going along one of the bluffs, but we stayed on the path as it is currently snake & poison ivy season.
Around this area are a few other local attractions, including several Southern Illinois Wine Trail wineries (Pomona, Von Jacob, etc), as well as Cedar Lake, & Little Grand Canyon. Further south, you can visit Trail of Tears State Forest, Bald Knob Cross, Alto Pass, and the site of the Lincoln/Douglas debate.
