Could Arnold's chest have been bigger than Phil Heath's gut?
That’s not possible for anyone let alone Arnold
@Michael Cass it's not that much of a topic when it comes to Ronnie's gut because He has a very wide body, big arms, big chest and legs unlike Phil his gut outsized his entire physique.
@Michael Cass IMO (and the opinion of MANY other bodybuilding enthusiasts), today's "mass monster" bodybuilders look like freaks vs. the more classical bodybuilders (e.g. Arnold, Sergio, Zane, etc.).
Arnold was obviously big, but he didn't look like a cartoon character like a Ronnie Coleman (and yes, "the gut" is right on the money). I'd say the last of the classical guys was Lee Haney, then things started getting ridiculous after Haney's reign was over.
Just Some Guy without a Mustache No
Bullshit report
When you think of it, that was almost 50 yrs ago. Damn...
Mario Habijanec its also almost 50years ago when you dont think about it actually.
Mario Habijanec I wasn’t even in my dad’s nutsack yet
Arnold's lats in front double bicep pose always look like Cobra hood to me..
Harpreet Singh is that good or bad lol
@@Carl-Johnson-CJ-GS very good
Harpeet Singh, I agree. The "taper" or "flare" or whatever ya wanna call it is fantastic.
Yes. I always saw that also. The cobra 🐍 hood. The way he work his back gave it that look.
Best ever
The old school bodybuilding never get old man, always more interesting than current affairs
Yeah and at least then walking a flight of stairs faster than a 70 year old man was normal now they are gassed
Definitely
still say arnold 1974 is the perfect body of a Greek God. Nothing comes close.
I agree. 72'-74'was insane! Even 71' was awesome
highjim I think Steve Reeves had the perfect body.
Ever heard about Mike Mentzer?
@@fettigeredgar that small dude?
In 1970, Arnold became the youngest Mr Olympia.
5 years before the birth of Shawn Rhoden, the oldest Mr Olympia.
It's amazing how the competition has lasted so long and still going strong.
Arnold looked amazing most of his wins. His legs looked subpar compared to today's standards but in the context of his era and height, are ok, and still had amazing calves. His upper body outclassed most of his rivals, except in 1980. Also he had the charisma no other bodybuilder has ever had since then. His legacy has made bodybuilding more known to the public than any other of his successors. He is the man.
go look up arnolsds best year.his legs were great.there is a photo of him hitting a crab pose, legs look sick.73 i think
@@adamwhittaker5314 I have all his books and films, among other memorabilia, could not be less an Arnold hater. To me he is the greatest of all time, I just say his upper body could stand against today´s bodybuilders, his legs not to much. Don´t use the word hater so easily, it is lame.
David Moreno Yes, you’re a true fan. Some other comments. BS.
David Moreno
You mean his thighs. His calves got so good they were on par with his biceps and pecs. His thighs were just big enough in 1974 but a little thin in 1975 and pretty non existent in 1980. He’s thighs in 1975 were shredded with deep cuts. No one had huge thighs back then although they tried. Frank Zane on he other hand thought his thighs were getting too big so he backed off doing squats. He wanted a perfectly balanced body not one with a single freaky body part.
David Moreno... Agreed ... 👍💪
Arnold's Mocking and Winningness
absolute brilliance!
Nick's strength and vocabulary
I was at that show in New York. Earlier that day Sergio was walking around NYC in a PINK silk shirt and was followed by a large crowd of people everywhere he went. The policemen gawked and New Yorkers didn't know what to think. Sergio's arms were incredibly big for the day. At the show, Sergio appeared just slightly subdued and Arnold owned the stage. Arnold's posing was superior and his charisma was unbelievable. After he won, he tried to 'escape" out the back, but found a wild crowd there trying to feel his arms and cheering him on. He didn't know what to think and has said that was the wildest crowd he ever saw in his bodybuilding career. BTW, the crowd would NOT let Arnold or Sergio leave and kept screaming for more...that is why they were both so exhausted prior to the famous "agreement" they both made to leave. Quite a show and great memories. Thanks, Nick.
Great insight from an actual spectator - thanks
Yeah sure are you 80 now??? This happend 49 years ago buddy
@@jimcameron1234 So what, i remember pretty much everything from five years onwards, born 1970.
Great Topic Nick! Arnold & Sergio actually trained together at times in those years. When Arnold came here to Chicago he stayed over at Sergio's home for a while and trained at the Duncan YMCA and said how gracious Sergio and his wife were. Sergio would also go out to California on occasion to train. Arnold learned how to win the judges and audience over despite having smaller inferior legs than Sergio. Arnold learned how to pose better and use "angles" better than Sergio did in comparison shots. He "out thought" Sergio and pranked him with the "I'm tired, let's leave" stage incident in which Sergio walked off and ran back to the stage realizing what Arnold had pulled. These two actually started the "posedown" head-to-head that was not really done that way before in earlier competitions. Yes, Arnold being on magazine covers sold more magazines. And I do think there was some judging switch-ups, especially in 1972. But Arnold showed why he became #1, yet he always acknowledged during all of his competitive years that Sergio was his greatest threat for Arnold to lose the title. Picture a top-notch in shape Sergio in the 1980 Mr. Olympia - very possible Sergio could have done that as he was beating lots of other top guys and had previously always placed higher than post-Arnold Mr. O's Franco Columbu and Frank Zane. If only we could turn back time!
I think while sevios legs looked way bigger because of his height and hie peoportions were better for tbe same eeason, ive never saw any photos from back then where sergio had any leg conditioning, very little seperation or definition.
If Sergio had been a little smarter about contest prep he would have won. Sergio had a great back as well but you don’t see it very often in contest pics.
Sergio was always smooth....always.....Big but smooth....
Even by today's standards Arnold's charisma and stage presence alone is massive but for early 1970s it was just not seen before.
He was so far ahead of his time along with his great physique
Bodybuilding was crying out for a hero like him.
I don't think the 1970 Olympia was really that close. Arnold had great flow, his separation was far superior to Sergios. Sergio was probably 6 weeks out by todays standards, where Arnold was not shredded, was still much leaner by any standard. At first glance Sergio was impressive, but if you break them down bodypart by bodypart , its no contest really..
Simply clueless...
Love the history vids Nick keep em coming
Will do
R.i.p Franco Colombu
Very nostalgic.arnolds charisma and stage presence were simply unrivalled.
Thank you Nick excellent throwback video!
RIP Franco!!
Nick, your history video's are EPIC....
Another great video Nick keep them coming!
This history type content is so sick man, as i wasn't around back then this stuff is hella dope man.
I learned so much from this video, thanks nick.
Arnold bicep will always be best and amazing
And his chest !
Another cool report on the history of body building.
Nick's Winningests and Vocabularies
Michael Polera winningest is a word
Michael Polera and his spelling lol
@@sticklebacketienne Mostly it's an American word you don't hear it much with English British people, and after all the English language is from England, the USA always has there own words and sayings and that's fine but they are not traditionally correct. #FACTS 👊😎
Great video Nick!
The history videos are so good.
Appreciate your videos so much!
Great vid bro!! I always love the Arnold stories of him trolling other body builders
Awesome content! This is why I love this channel! :)
Could the Terminator had been a bodybuilder?
I love these mini historical documentaries bro
Great footage Nick-- 22 inch arms without Tren, insulin, GH, etc.. and in those days could even do some running on the beach
I’m pretty pissed the Arnold retired so early. He was just so dominant, I would love to see how many more he could have won. And just imagine is physic and posing improve even more then it already was. Blows my mind to think of what could have been.
The sound level of that introduction is much improved
Arnold being Arnold.
Damn right it was
wow! 1970 was when i first started actually started my training. kool! thanks.
I really enjoy your Channel and I think you have a great voice! Continued success!
Nick your the only you tube Chanel I watch love it keep it up brother 👍🏻
Nick's broaden your vocabulary and olympia's.👍💪
Holy shit Arnold looked amazing in 1970!! I mean Sergio looked amazing as well, to me though Sergio looked freaky/unusual and Arnold had a grace and balance(with mass) that has never been beatin. Arnold back then seemed more massive and I prefer that look, he also had about the best crucifix pose in history. U got some really good/rare pix and vid footage for this one
NSP killin it with the uploads

For all your knowledge of bodybuilding and everything. I wish i could get you as my coach.
Man Arnolds arms just looked so good!
Hey Nick, glad to see you making these bbing history videos. These are why I subscribed. Keep it up.
Great footage 🎞
Terrific history lesson! Whether it's a refresher or new information your commentary, images and video are all top rate content. You have a knack for keeping things entertaining and interesting for all levels of interest Nick. I agree with your opinion of the Arnold versus Sergio mocking and winning controversy. I think that's just a part of Arnold's personality, reminds me of that one photo of Arnold leaning into Frank Zane where he's obviously saying something. I've never heard or read what he was saying but it certainly appears to be a taunt of some sort. Heh, heh...it is a competition after all and nothing compared to today's trash talking. Way to mix in the formats Nick, keepin' things interesting. .................................PEACE!!
Nick's bodybuilding and history
The fighting and disdain got so bad between Joe Weider and Sergio Oliva that Weider gave Reg Lewis the 1970 last place finisher more magazine cover shots in Weider publications than Sergio going forward. Sergio wanted to do things his way. Leroy Colbert spoke on this before his passing.
Arnold enjoyed mocking people he competed with on stage.l guess Joe whispered in his ear after bringing him over " don't worry about a thing, you are always going to win, l am not going to lose on my investment." Funny thing, Arnold carried that same mocking bs into politics, at one time calling other politicians " girly men."
Thanks for sharing 🏋️♂️
Nick's expanding and vocabularies
Nice video. Keep up the good work.

Nick's history and vocabulary lessons 😋
Love from India. Please add some interview footages which will spice things up.
Given that Bodybuilding has become a "trashed art"... I still come back. Your commentary is Extremely Impressive!
You should be working for a Major Nextwork! Nevermind... Your Show might be the next major network!
Expand outside of Bodybuilding.
You get it.
That Vincent guy has literally been commenting on almost every video for a year now, dedication i see
How can this guy look so amazing at 20! Wow!
Nicks expanding and your vocabularies
Keep going man

Nick's Thesaurus & History!
Was not aware that Arnold still holds the title for youngest Mr. Olympia winner. You learn something new every day, I guess.
One of the most bodybuildingest videos i've ever seen.
Was also televised abc's wide world of sports remember watching the contest. I was 13 at the time.Arnold was larger than life
Arnold said he did that to gain an advantage over Sergio. It’s in his book.
"Expand your vocabulary, boys" 😂😂😂
Hey bud. What is your vlog channel? Have you started it yet?
History at its finest
Arnold is numero uno 😄
Arnold is that damn good!
I will say surgo eliva looked great, but to me Arnold was perfection. He was and probably will be my favourite bodybuilder of all time. Arnold was my inspiration for getting into this sport. Not only was her he one of the most successful bodybuilders but one of the most successful actors as well. Believe it or not nick you abd Arnold were my inspirations for starting my CZcams channel. Great video nick
People talk shit about Arnold's legs. They were rivaling Sergio's. I know he went through periods where they were lagging a bit. But he had injuries and set backs but damn, during his day his legs were huge.
Arnold's legs were twigs, especially when compared to Sergio's.
5:38 Arnold’s chest is popping out like crazy.
Your bread and butter, Nick. These videos are great.
Could Nick's massive natural arms have competed with Arnold's?
the lats alone of Arnold could have won the competition
45 people are still bitter about Sergio losing in 1970
Commentator: Arnold you won Mr Olympia. Is there any one you wanna thank?
Arnold: Ya thank’s to Nick’s strength and power channel!! You made all possible. See you at tha Party!
Commentator: Who!?
You should do a video about creating the perfect bodybuilder by body part
Example:shoulders of a basketball player (and of course naming the exact basketball player)
Back of a Chinese weightlifter etc.
Nick - can you do a video about the theoretical differences in a Golden Era physique if they used current training/dietary techniques ?
The first thing that comes to my mind is the thigh size (not big Ramy size) & conditioning come competition time.
"Expand your vocabulary boys." Lmao! You tell'em Nick!
Sergio mass at his time was unreal
Wow that story at the end shows that arnold always had the brains to go with the brawn even from the beginning
"Expand your vocabulary boys"
Lmao. Nick looking out for us in the body AND mind. 👍
I would've love to see Arnold fool Sergio into walking off the stage early, Arnold was such a prankster back in the day. Just like in 'Pumping Iron' when Arnold gave that amateur bodybuilder 'faulty' advice on how to pose(screaming loudly, lol!!). Arnold's the Best! **Peace**
Great video! Love the history!
Nicks strength and vocabulary, boys
Arnie “ Like a beacon standing out from the rest...... know one comes close!
I think the trunks these guys wore are way better fitting and more pleasing to look at than what the competitors are wearing now
can you do a video about 1977-79 Mr Olympia next ?
Who played arnolds and Danny's father in the movie twins? I remember he was pretty jacked. Can't find him on imdb.
Winningness
Arnold doing a little hip dance at 1:28.
I remember watching a bodybuilding documentary where arnold schwarzenegger was so beside himself the whole night wile celebrating. where they said arnold couldn't believe he beat sergio. I don't know if that's arnold being his over zealous self. or at the time, he truly had his doubts about his physique or the admiration of knowing he won against a person who had such a gifted physique.
It would be cool if u did a video on all of arnolds olympia wins, and yhe controversy behind them, i was told one olympia win he was the only competitor
Best part of this video is the vocab lesson. I have avoided saying winningest my entire 38 years lol.... Never new it was an actual word it sounds grammatically wrong
its 1:10 AM in India
Thanks for watching anyway bro lol
