Not to Niagara. We went to New York just over 4 years ago, along with LA, Vegas, Grand Canyon and Hawaii. We were supposed to be heading back to Disneyland and San Francisco this year, but that’s cancelled now. Planning on taking the kids to Japan when this craziness is over, and do USA maybe end of next year

Niagara is an interesting spot. The falls themselves are breathtakingly beautiful and awe inspiring, but the towns built up on either side are truly atrocious! The American side is destitute and run down and has become a collection of factory outlets in an attempt to attract the punters from the Canadian side. The Canadian side, although nicer, is just one giant tourist trap, like an enormous Surfers Paradise on steroids!

Hey Michael, Thanks for sharing great info. Qus on rental, I see you did a one way rental, from NY city to Buffalo,NY. Did you need to inform the rental company that you will be crossing into Canada ?

Hi @firefly2967 welcome to our little channel! We used National Car Rental, and they had no issue with us driving into Canada. I can't remember if I asked them specifically when I picked up the car as I checked on the website first.
      www.nationalcar.com/en/support/car-rental-faqs/driving-to-canada-mexico.html
I think it depends on the class of car you're hiring, they don't want their BMW's being lost in Canada LOL. We just had a standard mid-size so it was all good.
Thanks for taking the time to leave the comment, it all helps the algorithm gods lift our profile.
Have a great trip! It really is a beautiful drive through upstate New York.

Piece of cake! So long as you have someone to yell at you occasionally WRONG SIDE, WRONG SIDE, WRONG SIDE! Just kidding 😊.
It's pretty easy. If you already drive a European brand car you're halfway there otherwise you WILL spend the first few days putting on the windscreen wipers instead of the indicators, and you'll do the same again when you get back home! All American rental cars (from the major rental companies) have automatic transmission, and the pedals are the same way around (accelerator on the right, brake on the left) so it's straight forward to drive the car. Just remember to keep the centre line on your LEFT side. There a few strange rules like being able to go through a red light if you're turning right if the road is clear. Then also there's four way stop signs which I have NEVER understood properly. They're like a roundabout but without the round in the middle. It ends up being a courtesy thing of letting the cars on your right go before you, and cars on your left have to wait. LOL just wait until it's clear and then GO GO GO 👍

guten Tag from Australia! It's a really beautiful drive that I've done a few times now. Particularly in Autumn time the trees are beautiful. It's quite a journey to do in a day so I'd suggest leaving as early as you can so you can stop at a few places along the way and enjoy the scenery. Corning is a lovely town to stop in nestled in a beautiful valley (and is also home to the Corning cookware brand). As you saw in the video we also stopped in Binghamton we has a lot of history behind it being a university town and also the birthplace of IBM. Try and get off the highways occasionally and take the backroads as it really is a beautiful part of New York State and there are lots of quaint towns along the way to visit. Welcome to the channel we hope you stay with us and consider subscribing if you haven't already! Enjoy your trip 👍 Oh, and there is also some really good cheap shopping to be had at the factory outlets on the USA side of Niagara Falls, well worth visiting!

Hi Ajinkya! Thanks so much for stopping by and helping us out with a great comment. Every little bit helps us build a channel and community 😍 thanks for your support.
We returned the car in Buffalo USA at the Buffalo/Niagara Airport and flew out to LA the next morning. Our original idea was to drop the car at Toronto airport and fly from there but the charges for a one-way rental from USA to Canada are very high (from memory it was over US$1000) if you can find a rental company that will let you do it.
It was cheaper to backtrack into the USA and it's only 1 and 1/2 hours drive from Toronto to Buffalo.
Thanks again for the comment and we hope you have a wonderful trip. If you need any other details let us know.

Hey Kevin, welcome to the channel! Please forgive me for the USA videos, I was just starting out lol 😁.
NYC is an swesome place to visit we've been there a few tiimes. Of course you don't need a car if you're staying in NYC, the subway is awsome, you can walk anywhere, and there's always plenty of cabs. For the drive to Canada we used National Car Hire, they were within 2 blocks walking distance of where we were staying at the AirBnB on W 44th St. We originally wanted to fly out of Tononto back to LA, but the one-way return fee from Canada to the US was outrageous, so we ended up dropping the car at Buffalo and flying out of there back to LA. It only takes a day to drive to Niagara from NYC and it's an easy drive.
Nice to meet some other people on the same CZcams journey, I'd love to know how you're finding it.
      Cheers. Michael,,

@@MichaelBTravelleryou're footage is great. This will be our first trip to the USA, apart from Hawaii. It's quite hard to create an itinerary for the USA. So many places to see, New York, LA, Niagara Falls, Memphis, It's never ending. Any recommendations?

    • @MichaelBTraveller
      @MichaelBTraveller  Před 2 lety +1

USA, wow where do I start? It's such a BIG country with an enormous variety of landscapes and people.
Most Australians land on the west coast, probably in LA, unless you're coming from Sydney then it could be San Francisco. LA is it's own microcosm and melting pot of America. It can not be to the taste of all visitors as it’s really spread out and the traffic really is terrible! You cannot get around LA without a car. But I like LA just for what it is, it's its own country. My wife disagrees! If you’re going to stay in LA I really like Santa Monica, clean, only moderately touristy, and on the beach at the end of Route 66.
San Francisco is the pick of the west coast cities to visit, such a beautiful spot on the bay, the bridge, the views, so many things to see and do with great public transport. There's also plenty of nature spots to visit like Big Sur, Monteray, and Yosemite which is so beautiful that you won't believe such a place exists.
If you’re wanting to go north a little, Seattle is also a terrific place to visit. Really pretty location and a nice city with warm and friendly people, and amazing food. Easy to get around on foot, and a bit like Melbourne in its vibe around food and coffee. It's also a good start for exploring western Canada and Alaska.
Niagara is interesting as it stretches across two countries. The Canadian side is prettier with the amazing views of the Horseshoe Falls but the town is a real tourist trap, it’s like a big showbag, pretty on the outside but full of cheap crap. Do not stay there. The American side has the Maid-of-the-Mist boat ride which is really worth doing (better than the Canadian one which is packed), but the town on the USA side is pretty run down. I’ve stayed on both sides (Canada twice, USA once) and I’d actually suggest staying in Buffalo and driving to the falls or taking a day tour to see them. On the USA side you’ll also find the Niagara factory outlets which are amazing value and well worth spending half a day there much like the Waikele Premium Outlets in Hawaii,
New York City is my pick of the USA cities to visit. I’m lucky to have been 4 times and never tire of it, there’s always something to see or do or try. Spend a week or spend a month, you’ll never get bored. If you’re into jazz like we are, it's sensational. We were there for a week and went to a different club every night and lapped up the musical history of the place. Take the A train to DUMBO in Brooklyn and see the city from across the river for amazing postcard views (a great place to stay also). Empire State Building, Liberty, Staten Island ferry, mid-town, down town, Wall Street, the list goes on. See Times Square at least once but that’s enough (another tourist trap) and definatly do not stay there. There’s lots of places within driving distance of NYC that are worth a visit such as Boston, Philadelphia and Washington DC.
I’ve never been to Memphis so can’t comment. The closest I got was Bransen which is a whole other story, or Atlanta which is a bit further south, and the furthest south I have been is Orlando Florida for Disney. Things are a little less hectic in the South and there’s so much history there as well as amazing food to try, and the warm weather off the Gulf.
On your way back home it’s always worth stopping in Vegas, it’s a crazy town and has to be seen to be believed. Do a day trip to the Grand Canyon which is well worth it, you can take a bus or fly in / fly out from Vegas, There's also a really great factory outlet at Las Vegas South Premium Outlets (it's a little quieter than the one in the North). You'll need a spare case!
That’s just a little taste of what you can do.

@@MichaelBTraveller hope you're well. Thanks for your advice, we really appreciate it. We're still in the planning stages, We're thinking of starting in Canada, Vancouver, up to whistler and maybe higher to get the northern lights. Then Toronto, Niagara, NYC, LA, then home.
That's a rough idea, then to fill in the in between parts.
      We're based in Sydney.
      Then down

@@kevinandange it's a great trip. Our very first overseas trip together was similar. We flew MEL-HNL-SEA, spent a few days in Seattle, caught the high speed ferry to Victoria for a few days, caught another ferry to Vancouver (yep for a few days) then hired a car and drove to Kamloops for the night, then drove to Jasper for 2 nights, then drove down the Icefields Parkway stopping at Lake Louise, then Banff Springs, before returning to Vancouver. The Parkway has to be one of the most stunning drives in the world. We spent a couple of nights at each stop and took our time, there's so much to see and the scenery is breathtaking.
From Vancouver we flew to Toronto (for a few days) picked up another car and drove to Montreal, which is just a magical French wonderland and stayed in the Old Town which was tres romantic.
From there we decided spur of the moment to drive to New York City and spend the weekend, then did the drive (for the first time) back to Niagara, then back up to Toronoto.
From Toronto we flew to Vegas, then LA, then home. Whole trip was six weeks from memory and just magnificent.

Hola feliz bienvenido a nuestro canal!
When we travelled in this video we left NYC on a Sunday morning which is why the streets were so quiet. We always take the inland rural route via Scranton, Binghamton and Corning as it's not much longer timewise, it's a very pretty drive, and far less stressful than driving on interstate highways the whole way.
I've also previously driven the other way from Niagara down to NYC on a Friday and it wasn't an issue, even arriving and driving in Manhattan on a Friday afternoon, so I think any day is good except maybe avoid public holidays.
Thanks for taking the time to watch and support our channel it all helps.
