Here's a secret.... there are 4 other boroughs to explore with superior food , better prices and less crowds.
"...if your phone's dead and you have to make a call."
Who remembers actual phone numbers anymore??? 🤣
🤔 I know my own number... does that count? 😂
He said 'important call'. You don't know your important numbers??
@@maestroh2986 I remember my childhood home’s number after 54 years. But because email and texting have become the more common methods of communicating, calling people is less common and made from contact lists not typing in a number.
Jon, you and your colleagues have these videos down to a science which is why they're so fun to watch: the maximum amount of information conveyed in a fun & concise way. I wish they were around back when I was visiting NYC, but if n' when I do get back I'm going to do a deep dive of research through your channel for my favorite recommendations you've made. Oh, and more importantly congratulations to you & your wife on becoming parents!
Nice
Love your channel. Thanks for all the tips and ideas. Really well put together and presented.. The askkhonsu service looks amazing and will help plan our fairly brief December trip. Keep up the great work and congratulations on the baby!
I have been to Ny several times, and I keep watching you, you are always giving me new things to do. Some things I never heard of, I think it will take a lifetime to do it all 😁
Thank you, love the channel 👍🏼
Congrats to you and Adriana on becoming parents ☺
Love your content man! Been planning to take my mother on a retirement trip to NYC and all of those tips you provided I found really worthwhile, especially the free greeters and museums bit, which I had no clue about. Will most definitely "take advantage" of that! Greetings from Bulgaria :)
Love the videos! Congrats on the little bundle of joy. I'm moving to NYC in the near future so I'm always watching to learn as much as I can about The Big 🍎
Another great content, Jon. Been watching a lot of new things about NYC, probably going back there sooner that I expected. Thanks.
Omg, number 1 is the best feature i see in months. I will be visiting nyc next monday and im watching all your videos. You are great, keep going. Cheers from argentina.
Every time I visit this channel, I find something unique and noteworthy !!! Keep it up Brother.. Love & Best Wishes
Thank you for all the great trip ideas, those museum exhibits look fantastic!!
Here's a secret that made traversing NYC via train much easier - the subway travels in the direction of traffic! Say you want to go downtown from Times Square, turn towards the direction you want to go and get into the subway station on the right side of the road.
Another one are the ferries. You can get very nice views of Manhattan by taking the ferry north from Pier 6 in Brooklyn Bridge Park. Tickets are just $4.
Regarding OMNY, great system, shame they haven't rolled it out to the AirTrain or LIRR. I would love to see more cooperation between the different transport agencies. One app for the LIRR, another for the ferries, and only MetroCard for AirTrain is a bit too much. Worst of all LIRR app doesn't even work with foreign cards so you have to get the ticket from the machines.
Nice tips
@@HereBeBarr The first one seems obvious now but for the first few days I made the mistake of getting into the station on the wrong side 😅
This could be a lifesaver next week. I screwed up so many times when I was there in March. It's a very different arrangement from the UK.
Those helpful Help stands that you just learned about are such a great find. So many features. 👌
I just love watching videos keep bringing them. And, Ben is such a dope videographer and has a dope personality
Thanks for all your tips. We had a great vacation in NYC !
The baby is here? 👶🏻Who knew?! Congrats to you both. 🎉👏🏼
Great info, thanks! Looking forward to the free museum days!
Thank you for the tips and congratulations on the baby boy.
That greeter program is in many cities all over the world. I have had wonderful experiences. One greeter even showed me her apartment in Paris during the tour.
I laughed when you showed the Mona Lisa in a video about NYC.
This is the best channel for NYC tours. God bless you!
Thanks for the new tips and tricks Jon !
We just ate at the John’s of Times Square and it was fantastic!! Thank you so much for the recommendation!
LinkNYC and subway wifi had saved me so many times, very informative video Jon!
😝
my trip to NYC is in 5 days super excited your videos have been really helpful!
Thanks for uploading and sharing and good luck on the CZcams channel
Thanks for this, tempted to add a tour to one of our free days.
Awesome tips! Thanks for sharing! 🙏🏻💯🤏🏻🤏🏻
Thanks for all the tips for ot going to NY Manhattan. I only have one day, so your suggestions are quite helpful. Thanks again!
We met with someone from the Big Apple Greeters and had the BEST time, 10/10 would recommend. Our greeter was bilingual, too, which was great since my mom doesn't speak much English. They don't take tips, but they do accept donations to keep the program going, which is cool.
Museum of the Moving Image in Queens is free from 2-6pm on Thursdays. Great museum! On the same street, is Sacs, an upscale pizza place in the former commissary of Kaufman Astoria Studios. Also, my favorite, Napoli pizza. Same street. Small place but absolutely fantastic food at great prices
Bendiciones to you and your family on the birth of your son! John's pizzeria reminds me of the Limelight when it was a club, now a mall.
I agree; John's pizza cafe in Times Sq is a gem of a find.
Congratulations on the BABY! Thanks for more COOL stuff in NYC! Might you author your own NYC travel book??? And LinkNYC is unbelievable and fantastic!
We have guides for sale now (in description)
I absolutely love these recommendations 🎉🎉🎉🎉
Jon ,Another excellent and informative video. That outdoor fountain is beautiful. The pizza looked delicious .Say hi to Adrianna ,and Alexander. I hope they are doing well.
Jon, just got back from a week in NY. Your tips were so helpful!
Thank you❤
That pizza you were eating looked so delicious! Very informative video! Have a wonderful day
We just got back from NYC. My first time visiting. Loved it!!!!
Awesome, that LinkNYC tip was great!
Great spots! The 6 1/2 Ave cut through is the best!
Totally agree on John’s of Times Square. An oasis in a food desert.
Thank you wit all my heart, Here ❤
that is great tip bor! I will definitely try these tips.
Your suggestions really helped 😊thx.
Incredibly useful video, thank you!
Thanks for such a timely upload. We enjoyed and made our travel plans using your videos. Met the hotdog guy. Really nice guy and omg the hot dogs! Thank you!
Billy’s the man
@@HereBeBarr yes Billy! Found it after I posted. What a nice guy. Thank you.
Lonk NYCs saved me a bunch. So happy I found out on my first year here.
Just wanted to chime in as someone who lives in nyc. Be VERY careful when using Omny. It’s just a magnetic field that reads your phone so if you aren’t careful you can get double charged. A lot of us are still using the metro card until they work out the omny kinks.
Wow
You really worth watching, and a good tip
I love your channel - I've watched so many of your videos to check out things to do in NYC ahead of our first visit which we did a couple of weeks ago. We did actually visit the McGraw-Hill waterfall as it was only about a block from our hotel. Do they only put out the tables in summer because there were none there when we visited?
We also used LinkNYC to connect to WiFi and I also tried to make a phone call but we were at a really noisy location and couldn't hear the automated menu when we got through. Keep up the great work and we'll be checking out more because I'm sure we'll be coming back soon.
I have done the Free tours by foot. Our tour guide was great
Great video Jon! I never had John's but only recommended it based on the opinions of others. Had no idea it was in a church!
I’ve been to John’s pizza. Maybe a long line to get in but, the pizza and food is delicious. And looking up at the stained glass…Beautiful.
thank you again for great video :)
Thanks!
Hello man. Nice video. Thanks for infos.
I have a question. Where did you taken the timelapse in 1:48?
Thanks.
well done such a good video thank you
How can a pizza shop in a church not be called Praise Pizza
😂😂😂
Probably because God doesnt like it when you Praise other gods so they wouldnt put that because it would make some people think they dishonor god.
Passion of the crust
@@MasonDaw ok that is very very good !!
A Slice of Heaven?
Great information - Thanks
So amazing! ❤this
Having OMNY pay on just your contactless credit card 💳 is another option. That’s what I have and I love it. I prefer using my credit card to scan through the fare gates than holding a big phone that I constantly have to unlock.
How do you get one ?
Another Epic video 🙌🏽🙌🏽 will definitely be visiting John’s in November
☝🏻☝🏻☝🏻☝🏻
Thank you to Here Be Barr and his friends for everything ❤️ Gintare Maksimovaite
Now we're tempted to go on one of those tours!
You’d love it
This is making me hungry. I love pizza. Great info!
The pay as you go metro card works on the PATH still too, if you want to come over to Jersey
Congratultions on parenthood. I hope you never flee to the suburbs. 😂 I love the free museum tip. On a previous trip, I could only afford to visit three museums, although I did go to FIT.
Great video as always and I'm a native
Thumbs up!
I spend one week last month... I did some site seeing ..it was great
Good tips Bet I've walked by Link NYC but did not know. Cheers from that place
I don't go in since the pandemic and they put in the Link! Holy crap that's so cool!
The Museum of Moving Image in Queens is free on Thursdays and well worth it to see the Jim Henson Exhibition.
We love all your videos. We are planning our holiday on 2023 spring and our research much enjoyable with your videos. Are you sure that MoMa free entry 1st Friday of month is not limited to NYC residents only? At least this is listed on their site. Thanks for all the details from all of your videos, we used them :).
I have the same doubt
You’re correct! I didn’t realize they changed it. My mistaken
Cheers Jon. I'm visiting New York from Scotland for the first time best month and
i think a lot of tourists just have a mindset that they don't mind spending a little extra on things because "f*** it, we're on holiday". Can justify spending a wee bit more without being completely stung, cos its a once in a lifetime experience for many. For example, I want to do a helicopter tour while I'm there :) it's a pne-off experience :) thanks for your videos
I’ve never tried it
@@HereBeBarr I have a very strange phobia called batophobia whichs like being the opposite of afraid of heights. I can look down from being up high but I can't look up at tall buildings from the ground or I just freeze and panic etc. So I think it would be great to see nyc from the air :) your videos gave helped me a lot because I will probably have a very unique experience if new york avoiding most touristy spots and emerging myself in the culture and seeing other things most tourists will miss :)
Because of noise pollution helicopter tours should be banned.
Love your content!
my Art should be in the Whitney!
Good job sir love you so much 😘 may God bless you ❤️❤️❤️
Thanks so much Jon 👍👍🇹🇹🇹🇹
Great video as always but have you ever thought of checking out Detroit? It's a lot nicer then you might think. Plus you could then do Northern Michigan. So many great/cute/charming small towns to see on top of the great lakes!!
It’d check out Detroit for sure
Yeah, those blocks of abandoned houses are beautiful in Detroit. 😂
Would you ever consider visiting Toronto?
A friend had been to NYC and loved John's, so when I visited, I took another friend (who lives in NYC). We were both under-whelmed. Maybe they were having an off-day.
People need to know that unlimited MetroCards impose a wait time before they can be used again on the same transit system (ie subway, bus). It's something like 20 minutes. So you cannot swipe in a group of people within seconds of each other. Please correct me if I am wrong.
Nice! ! Thanks 😊✌️
I was homeless in nyc and LinkNYC was quite literally a life saver constantly
It’s gonna be my first time going to New York in May 🥰
Wow, so great 😊
Currently sitting in Newark Airport after 4 nights in NYC, wish I'd seen this 4 nights ago 😂
Great video Jon! Thanks for clarifying the downside to the OMNY, it's really designed more for locals, and it is not so great for tourists. I'd like to think NY will address that, but in my heart I think they probably know, and just don't care if it costs tourists more.
They don’t… same w the Ferries and the monthly pass there vs single rides
Not just in NYC, most popular tourist destinations stick it to visitors since we pose no voting block. In Hawaii, it's pervasive. They use tourist pricing and "Kama'aina" (local) pricing for many products and services.
Yes, like the Oyster card for London, tap-to-pay is not a good idea if your phone or tap card is connected to a foreign bank. The "foreign transaction fee" may be more than the fare depending on the agreement with the bank.
So I have an Oyster card tied for auto top-up to my US bank account so that it tops up £40 at a time and I only pay the exchange fee for the top-up, not for each tap.
@@aptadpamuadmission fees are often needed to help keep a natural resource sustainable and not overrun with visitors (like Hanauma Bay for example). Those fees also will contribute to the maintenance of that place. Allowing a lower cost for residents makes sense since tourists typically make up most of those visitor counts anyway. And it’s like a goodwill gesture to residents.
When I travel I don’t mind if local residents pay less than me for admission to a tourist attraction. I think that’s fair since I’m the one visiting but they live there.
If you have a credit card from a US bank, you can also use that to pay your fare with OMNY!
Thanks for Sharing. In the near future I might be Coming to NY to Long Island Can You guess ?
Dave in Minnesota
very useful!
Best Pizza here in da city is Bleeker St in west village. Joe's one in West Village, other location is Joe's on East 14th in East Village. Sauce on East 12 th st between 1st and 2nd ave. Village Square on Ave A across from Tompkins Sq park. For best Italian food you have to go Arthur Avenue in the Bronx. Best authentic Italian food in America not just NYC. Also the best and freshest Cannoli's . They fill them while you wait. Also the Staten Island Ferry is free and on Staten island side are The outlets. Across the street from Empire Outlets is Ruddy & Deans Steak house less expensive than the city
Great tips! Forgot what Johns look like - got to visit. Do get deliveries to work from time to time.
good choice
How does he get his mouth to do that at 9:08 that is the most New York thing I've ever seen lol
As someone who was a tourist to NYC for New Year's going in to 2022, I wish I would have had this available at that time. I really am disappointed that we didn't know about John's or the McGraw Hill Waterfall. We stayed in a hotel between Times Square and Central Park where we had a view of the balldrop. We spent two days in Central Park. One day in Battery Park taking the Ferry to Wall Street.
I didn’t know the NYC link. I have been here for 5 days and on one day my phone was about to death. I immediatly freaked out because withput phone I could not find my way. I will use it next time. Thanks man.
That LINK is outstanding hate touching public stuff but I’m packing hand sanitizer so link it is. Thanks Jon you come up with some good stuff. And you added a pizza stop love your New York pizza reviews. Congratulations to you and your wife enjoy the baby the grow up fast
Psst… Jon… for OMNY, just tap your phone like on other Apple Pay devices. No need to hold flat against OMNY screen. In fact, doesn’t even have to touch at all. So easy. Pass it on…
great guide
Have you ever covered the Midnight Moment in Times Square. If you have, I apologize. I must have missed it somehow. If you haven't, I think you should look into it.
The water fall wasnt running when we visited from the UK, I wish it had though
Wow, i love New York❤️❤️❤️❤️❤
