Do these changes impact your ability to fly Delta going forward?
My delta skymiles cards and Amex platinum cards were already hanging on by a thread. This was the mail in the coffin for me. Time to say good bye to those cards!✌🏽
Amex will definitely need to strategize to keep us as customers.
It's like Delta took a diarrhea on its passengers.
Well I have the Amex Platinum and I never used it for Delta perks. It is about the centurion lounges, Walmart in Club delivery, Disney+, and a ton of other savings. However, I do have the Delta platinum card and they may make me consider canceling and going for the Hilton American Express card.
Yep
@crecasens even the lounge access is getting limited to 10 visit unless you spend 75k
As someone with the Delta Plat card, I just find it to be a slap in the face especially with the 2nd year cut to the sky club. Why stay loyal to a brand that don't give a f about you? Just shop around. I might keep my card because dtw is a hub (companion certificate) but my spend on that card is basically done. I'll shifting my spend to the chase cards
I’ll be taking my spend to another card as well. May have to earn elite status with another airline too.
Great breakdown. Time 4:11 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽 No smart person will miss a home payment, investing payment, starve or similar foundation needs for airline status.
Now I fly Delta as often as I can. But moving forward, I’ll be airline neutral and see what makes the most sense to me. May cancel the Amex platinum card though given it only has 6 club visits in the future. Living in a small town m, can’t really enjoy other platinum perks. Thinking about the capital one venture x.
The venture X can definitely be a good alternative. You aren’t forced to use anything and not a lot of couponing.
I love our VX. They’re doing a good job expanding big lounges too with one now at IAD and soon DEN as well as their flagship DFW lounge. Visa Infinite gives National Executive status on top of Capital One giving Hertz President Circle too. Overall, we’ve loved it especially since it’s got that blanket 2x for everything compared to Amex’s 1x.
Never be loyal. Loyalty doesn't pay. Be brand agnostic; don't tie yourself to any single company: airline, gas station, soda company, credit card, automaker, electronic brand, bank, logistic company, etc.
Had the Amex Delta cards (first gold then Platinum) for years. Just recently switched to the Venture X and love it! After these horrible Skymile changes I will certainly be closing my Amex card!
@@lukewise2376 so many others I’m sure are following your strategy. Amex will have to revamp these cards to keep them competitive.
Delta woke up today and chose violence 😂
They are definitely cleaning up 😂
Thank you so much for the great info.
You bet!
I literally just made Delta “my airline” after countless crappy flights with other carriers and THIS sh*t happens.
I am a regular guy applied for the CC and I just wanna start using a lounge for the first time in my life and now there’s a limit . And also, it’s straight up not within reach AT ALL.
I don’t get why they had to go THIS FAR with the policies?? They just keep making everything that’s for the average flyer, Elitist. Great. Good job.
Yeah, this is a tough pill to swallow. For the average traveler, it’s going to be really hard to get status.
They should make the cards cheaper, or at least add additional perks outside of the lounge. (Honestly they could have found a way to seek more space to fit everyone) Like, we are paying these fees for what now? Checked Bags??
@@JMasethe3rd
Exactly! We are already getting nickeled and dimed BEFORE we even get on the f*cking airplane. Once the gas prices went up around 2008 the airline industry went nuts. It’s bad enough that the airplane cabins are smaller than ever before.
@@TheCCMaestroIt will be hard even for some business travelers since their fares are purchased on corporate accounts. For the average leisure traveler that flies 6 times per year with a AMEX platinum or Reserve that books anything above basic economy this will not effect them as far as lounge access goes.
When the boarding announcement says “We Are Now Boarding Our DM Members” and half the group at the gate lines up you know there is a problem. The days of earning status on regional short hops and taking roundabout routing to rack up seat miles are gone. It’s all about the Benjamins
ALL ABOUT THE MONEY!!!
As a Amex plat, and delta reserve card holder with platinum status, it's not worth it. My MQD were never even 2k. I used the qualifying card spend waiver. And spent 75k per year.
If there's no changes how the miles are earned and redeemed then i can book flights with miles! The issue was lounges and they solved the problem. What they could've done was limit the number of times with how many people with all card holders visited the lounge. I always wanted the delta plat card but the fee was a deal breaker for me. I also hate how they made basic class not earn skymiles. May settle for blue just for the miles.
I will cancel My delta platinum because of this.....
Seems everyone is going this route. I will more than likely do the same.
I bet you’re one of MANY. That card seems next to useless now. Even the Reserve seems more like a garbage deal than it was before.
Hello, I am an ATL flyer and use a Delta branded Amex. Even though the MQD's are a hike It is all business I suppose😢. I will fly Delta. Best Wishes😊
It’s definitely a business move. See you in the skies!
I've been spending towards platinum status the last few years, with various success using the regional upgrade certificates. We were planning to just focus on silver medallion, but the opportunity cost is just too high. I signed up for a 2nd BBP card, and am going to rack up MR points instead, as well as incorporate Hawaiian Airlines in the Pacific, other airlines as we venter elsewhere outside the US. I would be willing to book cruises through Delta, but they'll likely only give a fraction % towards MQD, if they ever offer it at all.
I don't think your AU vists will count, because you pay an annual fee for them, for them to access their benefits. But 18k MQDs?
Yup deleting my platinum card in January! Switching airlines.‼️
so amex teased all these people with lounge access, now all these people are forced to spend...consumers going to consume...nice trick delta
This pushes me to move towards a fluid airline strategy. I have Delta platinum status and the Delta Platinum Reserve card. But I don't think the new system is going to be worth my loyalty.
So pretty much whichever airline is convenient for you at that time? Makes sense.
I have both a personal and business delta platinum. And now with these changes they are both totally worthless! I got the cards to help secure the status and make travel easier, but now it is just a waste of money and loyalty. 🤦🏾
@@JMasethe3rd agreed. Amex will need a major revamp of these cards, or they’ll see many cancellations.
Unfortunately, I’ll be canceling. Companion tix isn’t worth keeping my card anymore.
I feel this way about my Delta Amex Platinum.
Never used lounges. Don't know why people are pouting. The point of travel is your destination location.
Understood. I believe the reason people are expressing their opinions is because of the high annual fees for the cards with constant devaluations.
@@TheCCMaestroIf you break it down, with the reserve card AF it comes down to $55 per SC visit (10 visits). I’m sure there are many that were having anywhere from 50-100 visits in a year and when you average that out it’s just over $5 per visit. That won’t even cover 1 drink let alone food and multiple drinks. So you can understand why Delta is changing this approach. They want to weed out the gamers. This new strategy has sunk many gamers battleships lol. For years ppl were getting far more perks than the AF price.
@@HitsTownUSA they definitely want loyalty over gamers!
Im military and have 2 different platinum’s and the delta reserve so im good but business cards do not qualify for the waived annual fee’s
So you’re just kicking back in the chair with your feet up lol
@@TheCCMaestro yup
I have both the AmEx and Delta Plat. I got the Delta for the companion pass and I don't really go to Sky Clubs so these changes don't hurt me I'm just waiting for when they want to raise the af that's when I'm going to have to make a decision
What strategy do you use for your companion pass to make the $250 AF worth it?
@TheCCMaestro It's my Take Wifey To Florida Card I live in NYC and now it's rare to get flights to Florida at a nice time of year for less than $300 or more It easily pays for itself
Can we say Chase Freedom!
😂😂
Definitely going to move to a new airline
Do you have an airline in mind yet?
@@TheCCMaestro Most likely United overall, but JetBlue for some of their long haul Mint options.
I'm probably going to look at alternatives to Delta based on where we're going. We have the Delta Am Ex Platinum card, but it doesn't seem to be worth it. One thing I haven't heard anyone mention is that we used to get one companion ticket with the AmEx card. Is that going away too? What about one bag free for check-in? If both of those go, I'm going to cancel my AmEx card.
These are great questions Amex has yet to answer. When they do comment on the perks for the Delta Platinum, I’ll make a video for sure.
What about the regular (non delta) Amex platinum holders? Do they also take a hit?
Yes, we take a hit as well with being able to only visit the lounge six times per year.
@@TheCCMaestroUnless you spend $75K per year on the card then club entry is unlimited.
@@HitsTownUSA correct!
S/O to Frontier and the $299 Go Wild Pass. Centurion and Priority Pass me. Delta is cooked.
I’ve already ordered a American Airlines executive platinum card. Delta sucks for this. Platinum here. That’s almost impossible.
By the way what’s your background music?
AA & United are on my radar.
Music - thmatc.co/?l=A1D1205E
Sucks if it not a traveler
If you were military, which card would you recommend?
I’d get that Amex Platinum for no annual fee.
Moved over to citi
Terrible decisions but atleast now with main cabin u can change your tickets with no fees 😂 and get miles, delta is forcing hands and honestly for delta basic prices u can fly other airlines for waaay less cheaper and in these times that’s smart
Can you get into the lounge with silver medallion status?
You cannot get in with silver medallion status.
@@TheCCMaestro Thank you. Can you get in with any first class ticket or do you also need Medallion status? We always fly delta one but we are not medallion status. I always paid the fee to get in with my Amex Delta platinum so this is a bummer for us!
@@danicawilson1 yes Delta One will get you complimentary lounge access.
Tom Stinkbutt Brady did this
This is the first thing I see when I wake up today & has me screaming!!! Lmao 😂
Do Amex Reserve AU’s get their own 10 SkyClub passes?
Hasn’t been confirmed but I’d assume no AU’s do not.
@@TheCCMaestro that’s unfortunate as Platinum AU’s get same 6 passes as primary cardholder.
@@vsanchez1993did Amex confirm this?
@@TheCCMaestroI’ve been researching this hard and it seems AUs get their own allotted entries.
@@HitsTownUSA could you please share the link so I can view?
What about existing MQM’s ?? I have 143,000 MQM’s. 75k will make me Platinum for 2024, but what happens to the remaining 68k MQM’s?? No one has mentioned that scenario. Tnx.
I just found this on the Delta Site:
One-Time Rollover MQM Conversion
Starting early 2024, your Rollover MQMs will convert to your choice of MQDs or miles (or a combination of both)
Correct! We’ll be able to roll over MQMs.
@@TheCCMaestro But to what?? The site says to miles or MQD’s but doesn’t tell us conversion rate. It just feels like they screwed those of us who pounded the Reserve card for MQM’s when we could have poured it into another card.
I understand that something had to be done about over crowded Sky Clubs and way too many Diamonds and Platinum’s (I’m a Plat), but they should have given us a full year+ notice on removing the MQM’s as a status builder.
@@davidlobel Rollover MQMs convert to MQDs at a ratio of 1 MQD per 20 MQMs
Rollover MQMs convert to redeemable miles at a ratio of 1 mile per 2 MQMs
@@TheCCMaestro Thank you for the info. Though that stinks.
So I’m already Platinum for 2024… now, instead of being 7k MQM’s away from Platinum for 2025, I’m $12k of flight purchases (or $120k in card spend) away from 2025 Platinum.
It’s sad that a frequent “FLYER” program has little or nothing to do with how much you fly.
I know I’m not the only or first to bitch about it, but I’ve been a loyal Delta Medallion for several dozen years, and Platinum for the last 15 straight. I’m curious to see how they handle the backlash…if at all.
Thanks for your ear and info :-)
Bro I didn’t know you were here in the A
Yup! I’m here.
Horrible news for sure. Smh.
The problem with delta vacations, hotels, cars it's more expensive than just doing it separately
Yeah I’ve been doing some testing so far on the site. I’ve found some feasible deals, but I won’t spend extra to have status. I’ll have to call to see if they price match.
you are spending a lilttle more cause we get miles on qualifying purchases. If we factor in miles. There are some places that are cheaper.
@@gijesteroif do you feel the extra spend is worth it?
