Best video I’ve seen explaining this. I’ve had the Amex gold card for a while and couldn’t understand how my insurance worked. Thanks for the clarification!
you broke this down better than any other CZcamsr . thank you
Great video, detailed information on trip delay insurance that many like myself don’t understand. Thanks for sharing
Super super useful! Thank you!
Didn’t know about the R/T booking rule, as I frequently include multi cities travel when moving about Europe. so thanks for shedding light on that.
Glad you found it helpful! And you didn't ask for it, but here it is anyways. The more specific wording in the terms is:
Covered Trip means a period of round-trip travel to one or more destinations other than an Eligible Traveler’s city of residence at the time of departure where: (1) The Eligible Traveler departs by Common Carrier to begin the period of round-trip travel; (2) the period of round-trip travel ends when the Eligible Traveler returns by Common Carrier to the city of departure;........The period of round-trip travel may consist of roundtrip, one-way, or combinations of roundtrip and one-way tickets with Common Carrier(s).
Thank you for this valuable info 💯
Same thing happened to my friends and I staying in dallas. Funny enough we booked that same room you stayed in. Fortunately after watching this video i’ll be able to knock off that extra night
Thanks Max!
This is super helpful! can you also do one for primary car insurance?
This benefit is so worth it. Especially when traveling with a family.
This is also a helpful/deciding factor in getting the Delta Business Reserve for when I’m traveling for my production - so that I can have trip insurance/protections.
I need this video but for Chase and Cap 1 trip insurance walkthroughs
I used this in March on my Amex platinum. Flight was cancelled and went home next day (Germany to Canada). Super easy and quick payout. Took about 9 business days to be paid out after uploading everything.
Thanks for sharing! You got yours processed faster than most people usually takes a couple weeks
Thanks this is super helpful! Can you also do a video on the various amex cards for FHR and THC benefits? I'm good about using the FHR on my personal platinum every year bc of the $200 off but we also have gold, biz gold, and biz plat, and I feel like I'm not utilizing the hotel benefits that come with those. Thanks!
Can you book the hotel on a different card or does it have to be the platinum to get reimbursed?
Do you have to charge all incurred expenses to the Amex card or can you use receipts if you used cash or another card etc?
Do you think you can also go over chase travel protection?
Does all your supplemental charges have to be on the card that was used to book the trip in order to be reimbursed?
Great video! I have an upcoming round trip that I booked on Delta and used my AMEX Plat to pay for; however, I did have a $100 Delta gift card/eCredit on my Delta account that was applied before the Amex platinum was charged. Would the trip still be covered (if the riggers by a “covered reason”)? Thanks so much!
Great video! Can you do a similar one on cancellation insurance as well? You covered all the cards I have (or am interested in) in this video!
It’ll be an upcoming video!
How long does it take for you to receive the insurance coverage and the how did you submit all the documents to the third party company?
Would JFK and LGA and EWR be considered the same city even though they are different airports?
Does this work on Amex Gold?
Great videos!
Thanks! Thanks for watching!
Great info Max👍🏾 I have it on several Amex cards. However, I wonder if Visa Infinite e.g. CSR has better turnaround time on Claims filing and settlement (?).
From what I understand, Amex does their own insurance in-house, So I think they are more efficient.
Meanwhile, Visa goes through a third party insurance company.
Amex goes through third party too , AIG 🥲
From my experience the trip delay insurance claims via chase moves quicker than Amex but turnaround time can vary
You should make the same video but with the chase sapphire preferred
Thank you for the great video. I was wondering if there’s any way to find out if you’ll be approved before staying at the hotel? a bit of a risk given they could deny you
That’s the risk. You just need to make sure you follow the terms to a T. There’s still always a chance the claim will get denied. I would say expect nothing but if you do get something back from filing a claim its a win. I’m 3 out of 3 for my claims over the years so haven’t had any issues … yet. But I’ve seen data points of where people were denied their claims for no real reason
@@MaxMilesPoints thanks for the advice!
The airline is legally responsible to compensate you up to a certain amount for these same delay conditions.
On your Dallas trip, did you only have them rebook you for the next flight, or did you also ask for other compensation (hotel, meals, miles, etc.). If receiving other compensation from the airline, do you know how Amex handles this?
"legally responsible to compensate you..." if it's within their control. Weather is not within their control and they won't compensate you anything for weather delays.
The rebooked me on the next flight out the next morning.
The amex card coverage is... "secondary to and in excess of any other applicable insurance or benefit available to the eligible traveler including benefits provided by the Common Carrier" - from amex terms
Timely video 😁
A lot of flight delays and summer peak summer travel is coming around the corner!
I just realized If it can take up to 6 weeks for it to be processed, you most likely still need to pay for all those expenses yourself and then get reimbursed as a credit later right?
Yes that is correct
@@latravisbernard1996 that's a bummer
Yup that is correct. From my experience Chase is faster at processing the claims.
I got told it comes in a check in the mail?
What If the airline provides you with accommodation? Would you still get covered if you deny theirs and book your own?
If the airline provides you with accommodations then you have to take that offer. Trip delay insurance is meant to be secondary to whatever the airline doesn’t cover
Does this benefit cover payment made to buy travel agency’s tourist package?
The terms says it covers Common carriers
“Common Carrier means any land, water, or air conveyance operating under a valid license for the transportation of passengers for hire and for which a ticket must be purchased prior to commencing travel. “
So I don’t think it’ll cover travel agency’s tourist package
Hi Max - At 3’57” you said if you pay part of the flight using eligible card qualifies. You don’t have to charge the full amount to the eligible card to get the benefit?
Does trip delay insurance still applies if used points to book the flight?
Edit: but still paid taxes on the card, measly $11 😅
From my understanding of the terms and conditions and from my experience filing a claim yes it does! I mention that in the video!
So if I book a one way ticket and that flight gets canceled, I don't get any travel insurance?
Amex requires round trip . It can be multiple one ways to make the round trip. If one of your one-ways get canceled you need to get it rebooked and if youre delayed 6 or 12 hours (depending on which card) you’ll still be eligible
Could it be different airport in the same city?
They added the feature a few years ago unfortunately in 2018 I booked on the card assuming it had this insurance only to be stuck when I found out it did not. I feel like even now the Amex terms on this are the most confusing and doesn’t include airline bankruptcy which is what happened to me before
How is the trip delay insurance of AMEX Platinum compared to Capital One Venture X?
My trip got delayed in Dallas for 6-7 hours but I booked it with my AMEX Gold. Do you think I should try to file a claim?
can you do one for chase preferred?
Did you say 500 to 300 dollars ...? Weird way to state a range!
I say a lot of things weird when I turn on the camera haha
@@MaxMilesPoints yeah, you also typed that on the screen. Maybe we should think that way?
CAN WE GET A VIDEO ON THE BEST WAY TO BOOK FLIGHTS TO HAWAII? PERFERIBLY FROM LAX PLEASE! ALSO BEST PORTALS TO USE TO MAXIMIZE POINTS
Second
Better luck next time 😉
Can you do the same video for Chase Sapphire Reserve. I think it’s slightly better, though the contractor they use {Allianz} employs complete morons
Haha I plan to! AIG processes claims for Amex I can’t say they are any better but the terms for Chase Sapphire Reserve is much more flexible than Amex
First, I'm back!!! Lol
🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆
(also i got star alliance gold from a Singapore Airlines Promotion in 2022, I think you were the person that asked that a few videos back)
@@MaxMilesPoints yes, that was me, thank you for that, I've been wondering how to get star alliance gold, did you do it by flying or spending or both, thanks Max!!!
Your ad too long😢
It’s how I pay the bills 🤷♂️
You should do one on the Chase Saphire cards.
