    Do you have a Kubota RTV 900 or RTV X900 that the engine dogs out and loses power when you accelerate going uphill? If so, this is an EASY fix adjustment to cure that! Join me as I walk you through exactly how we did it and just how EASY it is. The Kubota RTV 900 and RTV X900 is a great machine, but I suspect that due to very strict emission controls they went just a tad too light on the fuel supply to power this beast! I just did this procedure on my neighbors 900 and it solved the dogging problem! It couldn’t climb a steep grade even in 2 and 4 wheel low. We just kept adjusting and driving to find the sweet spot. I was a little concerned that the locking nut could vibrate loose so I added a lock washer. The final test was to tow a 1000 lb Polaris Ranger with me in up a steep grade. Chugged right up in 2 wheel low and never slowed down and no smoking. Thanks again !

      Good deal! But I really hate that Kubota has let this problem go on for soooo long! Many years of owners have had to deal with this! And I don't know the fallout by adding more fuel, but man, it really sucks when you hit the gas uphill and it just bogs down!! Best of luck man, thanks! !

      @@kapperoutdoors 14' RTV-X900 and I hear you loud and clear...Tried @HuntingInPA half pedal modulation to drop it a gear but not sure it works, will definitely experiment with your suggestion.

  • @Crazypartyhouse
    @Crazypartyhouse Před 5 lety +20

    The pedal on your RTV moves the Swash plate in your HST....it does not move the governor on your engine. Your engine regulates its RPM's based on where the swash plate is. If you read your operators manual it will tell you that if you lose power going up a hill you are to let the pedal out until you hear the engine downshift then hold the pedal at that spot and the machine will go up the hill with power. They were designed that way to save the HST from going out by getting too hot. Mashing the pedal does nothing but losing all the pressure out of your hydro therefore stopping the machine or really slowing it down depending on how steep the hill is. RTV's are compact tractors with a passenger seat and truck bed designed to move heavy loads around at tractor speeds. They are not belt driven machines designed to fly up and down hills.

    • @kapperoutdoors
      @kapperoutdoors  Před 5 lety +4

      Yep, I am aware of that, but still don't like it! Man, when you mash on the pedal, HST, hydro or not, you should have plenty of power to boot! thanks.

    • @Crazypartyhouse
      @Crazypartyhouse Před 5 lety +1

      Kapper Outdoors mashing the pedal on a HST transmission is like starting your 5 speed vehicle in 3rd gear. Yeah you can get to higher speed faster, but try it on a hill and you find out real quick it doesn’t work real well

    • @MrPicklePiece

  • @vanivanstien1234
    @vanivanstien1234 Před 3 lety +6

    1. Black smoke in a diesel is in burnt fuel
    2. If you increase your rail flow you should consider removing your spark arrestor due to the excess unburnt fuel it will pig up in no time and you will loose the power gain you got
    3. Try removing your stock air filter , increasing intake pipe size with a very unrestricted air filter .
    4 . Get a more aerodynamic unrestricted exhaust headers you will find a huge increase in power .
    The trick to diesel isn’t more fuel unless you can give it more air in and more air out

    Late to this video... I have 2 RTV 900s, each pushing 1000 hours... another item which can gradually rob power is the final spark arrester screen just inside the tail pipe.
    It gradually gets clogged and creates lots of back pressure, inhibiting engine breathing.
    Spark from diesel exhausts should not normally be an issue on these, and cleaning with carb cleaner or brake cleaner is a snap, so do what works for you.
    Now you have something else to check!

      In theory, it shouldn't change top speed, but it may get you to top speed faster. Speed is determined primarily by the engine RPMs. Diesels turn slower than gas. The gas version of this is called a Sidekick and because the gas engine can spin faster, it's top speed is around 40 instead of 24.

  • @CharlesLScofieldJr
    @CharlesLScofieldJr Před 5 lety +1

    If it doesn't have a turbo do they make one for it? That would definitely add power to the engine. I know when I was in the Army the old M35 2 1/2 Ton trucks didn't have turbos, but the newer model M35A2's did, a lot more power and torque. Even the M52A2 5 Ton Tractors had a turbo. Of course, those trucks had multi-fuel engines and in addition to diesel, you could even run JP4/5 fuel in them you talk about power with that fuel. I ran my tractor from Ft. Stewart, GA back to Ft. Bragg, NC one time running JP4 jet fuel. It ran so clean that the inside of the stack was cocoa brown instead of the usual black soot inside. Got an extra whole three miles an hour out of it too. Not sure if JP4 would actually hurt a straight diesel or not.

Regardless of what type of fuel driven machine it is, in general when you mash the gas pedal you want to go as fast as that machine is capable. But with the Kubota diesel you have to really feather the pedal and when you mash it, it bogs down. I know what you are saying on this, but still believe they could have done much better with it. Figured it out.. they changed the design unfortunately. Now the RTVX900 has a threaded cap that is all one piece. I ruined it because I thought it was a press fit like this one.
      Hopefully I can find one from my dealer.

      I was able to just basically unscrew it. then on my vise used a punch to pop acorn nut and set nut out. Then there is just threads sticking out of the intake, adjust them to your liking and put set screw on and then acorn nut. She really flies now!!!It was a dog before. I have a 2010 RTV 900. Push the lift lever forward to the float position, then you can lift the bed manually. It takes a person on each side to lift it, then once up, put that bracket over the cylinder rod to hold it up

    Owning a new Kubota XG850 has been a nightmare. It has serious mechanical design flaws in the 4WD and clutch system. Parts replacement will not resolve these design problems. Kubota will not honor their warranty without a lawsuit. They have been sued over and over for failing to honor their warranty when the defect is widespread and super expensive to resolve. We will never buy from Kubota again.
