I love my selphy and am on my second one. I have one major trick for you that will save your ink sheets. Canon doesn’t tell you that every time you turn you printer on and off it uses up your ink and you will have left over paper. Apparently your supposed to print through a whole ink cassette at a time or you lose prints when turning off and on. What I researched and found works is pull out your ink cassette before turning your machine off and put it in after turning it on.
Wow, that’s good to know! So the thing here is to remove the ink cartridge at the same time as the tray right after finishing printing? Good tip, thank you! 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Lisette Vial I don’t remove the tray on my new 1300. When I did that on my old selphy I started having issues with it saying paper was the wrong size and i was using up the ink faster because the ink would advance to print but paper would not load. That’s why I ended up getting a new Selphy.
Paint To Paper thanks! I think that leaving the tray makes sense, after all isn’t that what we do with regular size printers, where we leave the tray permanently? :)
I was looking into buying a small instant printer. I watched every review you made of each mini printer. I was first sold on getting a cannon ivy but now seeing the Selphy i am sold on it. Thank you for these reviews. :)
Thank you for the information. I too have watched many videos on small printers and your video was the most helpful. Definitely going to purchase the Canon Selphy.
Just bought one Sunday night, your the first review I'm watching, I just want the largest picture possible, so I would use the 4x6 pics, but thanks for the insight, very useful information
Now I want to get out my Canon Selphy and give it one more try...I've never got it to work properly...I wish I could print from my computer like I did with my old Selphy! Thanks for the review.
That printer looks awesome. I have an elderly Canon but the quality of the photos it prints compare to those professionally printed. Canon makes a good product.
Great review. I have the CP1200 which must be the older version. I use the "PicFrame" app which gives me more control over number of photos and layout for the collage however the bookmark is really cute (reminds me of the print out from a photo booth).
Actually you can use N-up layout if you want the same size photo in frame like bookmark but no duplicate.its in the canon selphy app above the bookmark selection.
Looks like a nice little printer. Probably more than I need to slap a couple of quick pics in my journal. I was able to get the Ivy free from work so I think I’ll stick to that.
I recently gave myself a birthday gift and I purchased the Canon SELPHY CP1300 through HSN and love the results I get when I print. So far I am very satisfied with my small printer. I also read in the Canon Selphy manual that there is a battery pack that can be purchased separately if the cable isn’t going to be used.
I’ve been researching this printer for a bit. From what I can tell, all the paper Canon offers with this device is glossy photo paper or labels. Is it possible to use regular cardstock or matte 4x6 photo paper to print on? (I know Canon doesn’t recommend it). I can’t find anything on the interweb of anyone attempting or reporting on this. Thanks!
FYI regarding power, it actually has an optional battery pack for use when there is no AC power available for about $39.00, and the Sephy does in fact produce Lab Quality dye sublimation prints. It's also the perfect printer for parties, photo booths, and archive printing of 4X6" prints and ID photos.
I'm present shopping for my daughter who will be 16 this Saturday and all she ask for is a way to print photos...you really helped me make my choice...because I've been giving myself a headache trying to decide !! So thank you so much!!
Please help.i bought my selphy printer lastweek and was so excited to use it.however, my print outs came out so pale, colors are not as vivid as the original on my phone😥 what could be the problem?
so quick question... how does the photo stand overtime? does it fade? i had some photos from my phone that i had printed and found that the colors fade. not sure if this is because of the paper quality or ink.
Do you still rate the Canon Selphy? I’m currently researching the Selphy, the Sprocket and the Kodak mini 2 I think it is, can’t quite decide. What I like about the Kodak and I think the Selphy is the pass system of layering colours, vs the Zink of the sprocket which photos can and will fade with heat and humidity. I like the convenience of the smaller pocket but the ability to have different sizes with the Selphy. Which do you think has the better quality print?
I’m so glad you like it, I am really like mine too, today I printed goofy pictures of our Italian greyhound in a Christmas dress for my Christmas cards.
Wow, 60 $ seems like a lot for Christmas cards! I have bought cardstock some nice christmas stickers and printed pictures, the thing is that most people love homemade things. At least they do here in Sweden, but I guess it’s the same in the US.
@@samplans I used to spend a lot of money on store bought cards then once I started buying crafting tools I began making my own cards to send to family and friends the return rates have dwindled which makes me sad to see how the art of writing is being lost.
Hey do you know how to select multiple photos directly from your camera to the selfie...to have the photo booth look? I'm porting them directly from my camera
Very informing! it truly helps me when i buy one this weekend! thanks! but, what im afraid is that i'll buy one! and than, by the end of the year! they'll come out with the Five by Seven! wich thats what i want! isn't it better to wait just in case it happens no? !
Thanks for the review! Downloaded the collage up and think it’ll save me a bit of grief 😂 my 5 year old says that the printer talks telephone language, pretty accurate!
You can buy the battery that goes with it and make it portable also. If you need it portable then you can use your phone as a wifi router on hotspot if needed..
Im trying to decide between the Ivy and Selphy to use to print all the pictures for my kids baby books. Sounds like the Selphy is better quality prints but I really need something that prints onto thin paper preferably with the sticky back so my baby book does expand too much with thickness of regular prints. Would you say the prints from the Ivy are on thinner paper? and have you tried the sticky back paper on the Selphy, is it as thin as the ivy sticky paper? Can you print 2 or 4 images to a page on the Selphy? (I'm after the smaller 3"x4" prints to fit more on the page. Can you tell I'm in a real dilemma with which printer to chose haha. Portability, easy of use and speed of printing aren't a factor for me, just the best quality print I can get on sticky back paper that's as thin as possible.
I am so torn between the selphy and the Canon ivy now! I feel like the selphy first may give me more options for memory keeping in my bullet journal which is what I am mainly looking for....
This is awesome! I haven’t played with my Selphy enough to see the bookmark format and can’t wait to use that. Is there a way to add text before printing instead of using a label maker? Thanks.
When using my SELPHY and printing from my iPad not all my pictures can print, it tells me not available to print, any thoughts why? My iPad is quite old, could that be a reason? TIA Rhonda
Hi Sam. Thank you for ALL your great reviews. One question. When you tear off the sides, is the picture a true 4x6? My CP 1200 is not a true 4x6 one you take off the sides. HUGS, T
I have a really old version of the Selphy and think I'm upgrading this Christmas. I've always loved the print quality and the wireless option will be amazing. You don't know the steps I went through to print photos from my phone on the older style. haha. so many steps through my computer onto a flash drive and then to the printer.
@@samplans yes it is! I ended up getting the smaller tray for the different sticker paper packs you can get for the selphy, too. I ordered square sticker cards, but there are other sizes, too. we'll see how those go.
As good as I the review is, I was really waiting for you to print 1 or 2 single largest size prints and focus on them so we could see the image quality! There is not a single review on YT that shows how good the IQ is for a single large print. The IQ of your multi prints looks good on here though! Nice detailed review, thanks
@@samplans lol no worries! As long as it's around high street lab quality it's all good! Might pick one of these up now, been thinking about it for a while. Ideal for taking pics of family and children etc then print them for them. Thanks again

I just bought the 1300. Setting it up and read to download the canon print inkjet/selphy. Did that then it says it doesn’t show the 1300 but says it doesn’t support this printer
@@samplans thank you. The one in the booklet is what I tried, but it didn't support the printer. I'm disappointed because this is my second printer. I loved using the first one
Really want to use bad language here to express my opinion about this printer. I decided to give it a chance and got a second one hoping it had been a bad batch or something. It turns out to be even worse than the previous because this version is supposed to be wi-fi only. It's got a usb port but I keep getting an information from Canon website saying that there's no drive for Mac, that it's just to connect via wi-fi, but I want to use the cable for this very reason, the connection breaks and I keep having to restart the printer between a few prints. Also, often I get streak marks or stains on the prints, just like the previous one I had (which was the main problem with that Selphy version, the connection was better since it used cable).
@@samplans but honestly, i check out others video of it the quality look good compared to other mini printer and you can print out full photo of it. Might buy this . The paper also cheaper

Hi! Which size of paper did you use for the bookmark photo? When I print mine out using the 4x6, the pictures comes out small and centered.
Is there a trick to make the photo print just before the part where you have to tear the edges? Its a hassle going thru app to app to resize it.
so quick question... how does the photo stand overtime? does it fade? i had some photos from my phone that i had printed and found that the colors fade. not sure if this is because of the paper quality or ink.
The border at the top and bottom is where the printer grabs the paper. So the printer doesn't leave marks on the images itself.
